Fish Out of Water

Fish Out of Water

©2013, Olan L. Smith

I swim while you cast your line in a lake you will drain;

Hooks intended for fish; their barbs I remove from my flesh,

Further along a deluge ensues and I am cutoff by

Unconscious thoughts descending like waterfalls; I thrust

My arm through the cascading waters;

I cannot feel your touch; my shouts are unanswered

And I am carried away to a foreign place,

A millpond filled with mud, fish flapping; my rod bends.
