♡ Gabe's Confession
If you're jumping through one shots, go to the one before this. It'll make a whole lot more sense if you do.
"What about me?"
Gabe's voice came out slightly harsher than he'd intended. He'd popped in the second he'd heard his name, and apparently, it was for something major this time.
The three of them froze when they saw him. Gabe stared at them all, but left his eyes locked onto Cas and stayed there.
"Hello, Gabriel," Cas greeted sheepishly. His face was flushed red.
Gabe looked between Cas and Dean, who were still in the same position they'd been in. "What went on here?"
Biting his lip, Cas held up a feather. Gabe choked on air. "Is that Neveah's?"
His brother nodded. "Yes," he said in a small voice, his eyes flicking towards Dean.
Gabe frowned and shook his head, willing his mind to comprehend. These two idiots hadn't actually gotten together without him meddling, had they?
"When did you finally pull your heads out of your asses?" he asked.
Dean glared. "I'd make a really good joke, but Cas wouldn't get it, and then you'd explain it and I'd get slapped."
The author would also get slapped irl if she made the joke...
"Sam, Neveah, and Charlie brought us a siren orb," Cas explained.
"And it worked, too," Sam said proudly from his spot in the doorway.
Gabe was offended to say the least. He'd been rooting and hinting... well telling and shit for these two and here he was seeing them together as a damn couple and without him knowing and meddling.
Sam had called Charlie and even Gabe's sister, but he hadn't bothered to get him. That was what stung him the most.
And here he was thinking Sam maybe possibly liked him. Gabe had no intention of acting on his love for the hunter because he knew that Sam wouldn't like him, but when he started showing little signs, he got his hopes up.
Not anymore.
He felt his heart sink.
"Bravo, guys," he said cheerfully. He was going to be glad. For Cas. "I'm happy for you! I was wondering how long it was going to take." He chuckled and winked.
To Sam, the whole ordeal seemed better than what he'd have expected. He kept making up excuses in his head to make himself not feel guilty for not letting Gabe be in on his schemes, but the emotion was still there. He was just too afraid. Too worried.
They spent the day in celebration because of Gabe, but Cas was extremely enthusiastic that his brother was happy for his choice. Dean grumbled and Sam was too busy fangirling to really do anything.
Sam had called Charlie and Neveah, telling them that their plan worked. The angel literally zapped in while he was on the phone with her. Charlie, however, shrieked and hung up, promising to be there in an hour tops.
She was. She didn't even knock. Charlie simply opened the door with a camera in her hand and ran up to Dean and Cas.
The first celebration on Gabe's planned agenda was a giant cake. Angel food cake, to be exact. Granted, it had almond frosting - the author's personal favorite because it's heavenly.
"Cake over pie?" Dean asked incredulously, leaning over to examine the desert.
Cas nodded. "It's a human custom to celebrate an occasion with the dessert called cake."
Sam didn't really understand why Gabe was insisting on going so big when it was just them getting together. If it was an engagement or a wedding, that'd be different. But this seemed a little too much. Suspicious.
Gabe flitted around with a knife, hacking into the cake in weird shapes until there was an assortment of stars, moons, and wings.
Neveah took hers and bit her lip, eyeing it hungrily. When everyone had grabbed a piece, she quickly dived into the left over. Within minutes it was gone.
"Neveah!" Gabe teased dramatically. "You're supposed to save some for the rest of us!"
She just shrugged.
Sam noticed that Gabe hadn't said a single word to him. It hurt him that he was being shunned, especially when he didn't know why. If the angel even had to look at him, it was for but as much as a glance before looking away again. It felt like a dagger each time.
In Gabe's head, it was too hard to have to interact with Sam with how hurt he was. It would have been easier if Sam knew why he was so wounded, but it didn't seem like it. The moose went around in all smiles, not giving Gabe the time of day.
Sighing, Gabe pushed them all into the living room to watch movies. Sappy romance movies. Because if he watched them, maybe it would heal him and he'd be able to look Sam in the eye without wanting to cry. Like a sad day and listening to sad music.
Charlie snickered when she saw the titles Gabe snapped up. "It Could Happen To You?" she asked, holding it up. "Didn't peg you for a romantic, Gabe."
He shrugged. "I'm a closet romantic," he replied. "At least I can watch Disney movies without crying."
"It was one time!" Dean yelled from the couch, growling. Cas giggled and kissed his cheek, sending him sputtering.
Gabe put it in and they began to watch it. It was one of his favorites, and not just because it had Nick Cage in it. He legitimately liked the plot of the movie. Odd for him. Pretty odd.
When it got to the part near the end when the couple was in the old shop, he nearly broke down. Why couldn't he and Sam have that? Nick Cage's character was like Sam, and that depressed him. He was kind and loyal and giving...
Before he knew it, tears were falling down his face. He reached up and touched his cheek, feeling the wetness sliding.
Gabe quickly excused himself to the kitchen, claiming he needed a beer. "Get a hold of yourself," he muttered, putting his head against the fridge.
"Gabe?"
The angel flipped around to see Sam standing a few feet away, staring at him.
"Hey, Sam," he said weakly.
The Winchester stepped closer. "Why have you been avoiding me?" he asked. His tone wasn't harsh or angry, only curious.
Gabe sent his gaze to the side. "Because it hurts," he told Sam before he could stop himself.
His face scrunched in confusion. "Why?"
Gabe shrugged. "You tampered with them with Charlie and my sister but didn't even call me." By now his voice was permanently low, stained with his emotions.
"I had my reasons," he said, stepping closer.
"Yeah," Gabe snorted. "I obviously don't rank, and I know it. I've done too much to, but I thought if I..." he trailed off, biting his lip.
Sam urged, "Gabe?"
He sighed. "The more I see them, the more I long for what they have. Seeing Cas happy has always distracted me from my own emotions, and I thought that it would work now." Gabe shook his head. "It wasn't right of me to think I'd ever amount to anything around you."
Sam reached out and tilted Gabe's chin up. "If you would get your head out of the clouds, I'd think you'd notice you're always welcome around here. Gabe, you do amount to something."
You amount to everything, Sam thought. The words didn't leave his mouth, though.
Gabe gulped. "Then why do I still feel so empty every time I look at Cas and Dean?"
Sam looked out at where he could barely see the two of them cuddled on the couch. "Maybe it's because it's what you want. You want to have someone to cuddle and joke with and love with your entire being. You want to be able to call them yours."
Gabe stared up at him, eyes wide. "Is that from personal thoughts?"
Sam smiled, not largely but a small one. "Yeah. Yeah, it is, actually." He smirked. "I'm actually waiting for that person to grow a pair and take a chance."
Was he saying what Gabe thought he was?
"How do you know he will?" he asked, playing along in case that's what he was actually implying. "Maybe he's too scared to and knows if he gets pushed away, it'll be the end."
Sam thought for a second. "You know, I think he just needs to realize that he won't be."
"I think he's starting to."
Once the words left his mouth, Gabe came closer, pressing his hands against Sam's chest, standing on his toes, and lightly kissing his lips in a way that was barely there.
Except Sam wasn't going to have that. His heart pounding, he forcefully connected their lips, slamming Gabe back against the fridge. The angel moaned and combed his fingers through Sam's hair, bringing him closer as the moose tucked his knee between Gabe's legs, pulling them up to wrap around his waist.
Sam reluctantly drew back and touched their foreheads together, his pupils blown and his breathing heavy. "I'm sorry," he apologized quietly, huskily.
Gabe made a disagreeing sound. "I'm the one that was being ass. I should have just kissed you earlier and then we could have avoided this."
"I don't know," Sam said cheekily. "I kind of like pinning you against the fridge."
"Kinky."
Sam laughed and kissed him again tenderly. This one was still full of the same passion, but it was more loving and accepting.
"Give it to him!" Neveah shouted from the living room.
Sam looked horrified and Gabe burst into a fit of laughter. "I think I enjoy that idea," he giggled with a wink. Sam flushed red.
His sister shrieked. "I just realized what I said! Don't do that until we're gone. I meant the thing that's in your coat!"
Gabe snickered. "It still sounds bad."
A lightbulb of understand (because that's a thing) went off in Sam's head. He reached into his pocket and took out Neveah's feather, handing it to Gabe.
The angel grinned at it fondly and his eyes welled slightly. He kissed it and snapped, encasing it and sending it to the side of Sam's bed. He'd find it later.
Sam kissed Gabe again. Against his lips, he muttered, "You're mine, now."
The hunter's mouth moved down to Gabe's neck, making him purr. "I'm completely ok with that."
