Chapter Two

Rain plummeting onto her head, Jenna headed down the crammed street. Owls hung from cages, broomsticks in glass cases. Although the street was bustling, she could just about make out a group of boys huddled around a joke shop, laughing. One had untidy jet-black hair, another had long black hair, another was short and had short brown hair and the last had scars over his face and was wearing rather ragged robes, also with messy brown hair. She smiled at them, but none of them took any notice.

Suddenly, three black gushes of gas blew down swiftly. Everyone screamed in horror. Jenna had no idea who or what these things were. As they hit the ground, they turned out to be three men with masks on. "Death Eaters!" someone screamed. One of the masked men drew his wand.

"Filth," he observed the small group of people cowering. Then -without warning- Jenna was in terrible pain. The masked men had cried "Crucio!" no longer than ten seconds ago. "Stop!" a shaky voice yelled. The masked men ceased and looked over to the scarred boy glowering at them, hands clenched.

"Leave her alone!" he took a step forwards, fingers still clenched into palms. "Ah, Soni, this the the one Greyback was talking about," one sneered. "How dare you curse her!" The boy drew his wand. "Remus, no! You're too young!" The short boy squealed. "Crucio!" The masked men shouted and Remus shot down in pain.

"Stupefy!" someone had chanted from behind. The men had gone still. Remus was still curled up on the ground, whimpering. Jenna looked back and saw a Ministry employee running towards them. Remus had arose, he was pale.

"Hey, t-thanks for saving me there," She half-smiled, unsure whether he was angry. "It's fine, I suppose, by the way I'm Remus. Remus Lupin," he held out a hand politely. Jenna beamed and shook his hand. "I'm Jenna Jones pleas-" She stopped as his other friends ran other. "Got yourself a girlfriend Remus?" one sneered. "Push off James," Remus glowered playfully at him. "Are you nervous about starting Hogwarts?"

"Yeah, I really am," Jenna grinned.

"Me too. I suppose we should stick together and be nervous."

Jenna let go of his hand and turned to go, thinking it would make him feel much less flustered. Grudgingly, She waved goodbye but soon regretted it as his nosy classmates harassed him again. "I wasn't even a Muggle-Born," She muttered to herself.

A short while after, she was then on the search again for her school items. I wonder what the castle looks like, she noted mentally. Coming to a halt, a black-haired boy suddenly bumped into her.
"Ah!" He yelped, falling onto the street.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" Jenna apologised, despite it was his fault he walked into her. She helped him up and he thanked her, soon hurrying off to his parents.

Jenna opened the shop door; a bell rang briefly. As she gazed around, wand-sized boxes were stacked in every corner, there was just about room to walk to the counter.
"Ah, Miss Jones!" A middle-aged man with glasses approached from the long, dank corridor ahead.
"H-Hello! I was wondering, is this where I get my wand?"
"Yes, and you're just in luck. We've had a new stock, as you can see," he pointed to the stacked boxes.
"Yeah," Jenna smiled, "so how do I choose one?"
"Miss Jones, the wand chooses the wizard."
"But how-" she was forced to cease when he ambled to the back of the room. The man soon brought a small box out.
"Dragon heartstrings, eight inches, cypress," he muttered to himself, before handing her the wand.

Warm wind blew into her face the second her hand touched the wand. A light shined upon her.
"Seems you have been chosen," he grinned, receiving the wand back and placing it gently into the box. The man then handed the box to Jenna, before pushing his glasses up.
"Thank you!" She smiled, before hurrying out and to the owl shop.

A barn owl landed onto her shoulder.
"Ah! There he is!" A witch in some handsome purple robes hurried over with a mouse in her hand. She fed the owl the mouse then thanked Jenna.
"He's always flying about, been here for ages," she smiled, putting the owl back into its cage.

While she had her back turned, Jenna beamed at the owl and it clicked its beak in appreciation.
"Um, Miss?" She started, turning to face her,"may I take this one?"
"Are you sure?" she merely raised an eyebrow,"he causes a lot of trouble."
"I'm sure I could get him trained up," the minute owl was now nipping her finger lovingly.

After a moments silence, she agreed.
"Well, alright, if you say so," she half-smiled, taking the owl cage to the counter. Jenna wandered over, taking in all of the owls in cages.
"Ten galleons please!" The lady said cheerily. She handed over the money that she had been given by her parents. Jenna noticed that she had given her a free pack of owl treats and beamed at her, stuffing the bag into her jean pocket.

The moment she had left Eeylops Owl Emporium, a boy in glasses met her eyes. Their lips were touching for a moment, before she pulled away quickly and blushed.
"Um," she started to say.
"Sorry - I - it was a mistake," he blushed and quickly ran into the shop. A group of wolf-whistlers cackled nearby.

"E-excuse me?" An elderly man with a long silver beard was sitting alone in the Leaky Cauldron.
"May I ask where I can get a room?" Jenna asked shakily.
"Just ask Tom. Ah yes, you're Jenna Jones. Your father was extraordinary: he was a Care of Magical Creatures teacher, absolutely brilliant. Sorry, I do drag on a bit mostly. I'm Professor Dumbledore, your new Headmaster." He held out a wrinkly hand and Jenna shook it. "Take a seat if you want," Dumbledore gestured to a vacant seat opposite himself.

"So, my dad, he bred different coats of hippogriff?"
"Yes, and he constructed the most common colour of the hippogriff today: grey."
She nodded her head; intrigued.
"My mother, she wasn't a witch?" a waiter had just brought her a mug of frothy butterbeer.
"No, sadly she was a Squib. So she knew magic existed yes, but she never had it in her. Shame, really, I thought that she would have done well at Hogwarts," he gazed down at a magazine, which bore the title:

The Daily Prophet

"Sir, is that a wizarding newspaper?" Jenna inquired, gazing curiously at the press.
"Yes, bit of a fraud really, nowadays," he unfolded it and passed it over to her.

Madam Malkin's closed after raid

The popular robes shop, Madam Malkin's, has been closed off after a raid yesterday.
"Absolutely disgusting. Valuable robes sprawled across my floor," she tells us, her hands firmly on her hips and tutting. The Ministry are doing all they can to find the thieves and take them to Azkaban.

"Azkaban?" she narrowed my eyes curiously at the tabloid.
"Wizard prison. Awful. They'll put you in there for just about anything." He shook his head. "Great Scott, look at the time! I'm very remorseful Jenna, but I have to leave now. I'll see you at Hogwarts," he said before turned and winking while waving kindly.
