Chapter Twenty Three

The girls took their seats at the Gryffindor table, all eyes on them. Some Slytherins tutted loudly.

"Right. Now then. How to start it." Professor Dumbledore paced the room, a long finger on his scraggly chin. "As you all know, a certain Lord Voldemort has recently attacked a young girl, who has thankfully recovered well."

People gasped, shocked that he had chosen to utter the name. "Forces of his are targeting Hogwarts, and I'm afraid our magic isn't strong enough to keep you safe for long. As you do your final year exams, I will let you know that dark things are going to happen at Hogwarts. Very, dark things. Well, then! Chop, chop! Your first period is awaiting you!" He clapped his hands, turning away to head to the Trophy Room.

While the rest of the school filed out, Jenna fought her way through the crowd to the Trophy Room. She had so many questions to ask, she couldn't resist the temptation.

"I'll catch you later, tell the teacher I don't feel well." She said to Marlene and Lily.

The Trophy Room door creaked open. "I see you have come to ask some questions, Jenna Jones." He stared at a gleaming gold trophy, encrusted with fabulous jewels the size of buttons.

"H-How did you know it was me?"

"The minds are very varied, people are different." Dumbledore murmured.

"Uhm..." she paused, looking down at her feet.

"Tom Riddle." He muttered, peering closer into the glass.

"I-I'm sorry sir?" She strolled forward, hopping off the step.

"Voldemort. His younger self." His eyes were still on the trophy. Jenna glanced over: it read:

Marlene pulled the blanket closer to her, looking nervously at the clock. It was nearly the end of lessons, surely a talk with Dumbledore wouldn't take that long? But again, knowing Philosophers...

The portrait hole swung open. Remus and Jenna came through with serious faces as if they had had a deep talk.

"I walked him back from the Hospital Wing." She beamed at her then at him, letting her hair down and collapsing onto the sofa.

"What happened, Remus?"

"Just a little fall! Honestly, you're the sixth person that's asked today." He grinned at Marlene, opening up the Prophet meticulously, trying not to tear the thin paper that lined it.

Marlene huffed and crossed her legs, trying to discreetly obscure her frustration.

"I need to go get my homework, I'll be right back." She stomped back up the stairs.

"She's in a foul mood." Jenna smirked, walking to the hot chocolate machine. She took grasp of a paper cup and held down the lever. "Besides, it's me that should be worried about homework. I haven't done any since Wednesday."

"Wednesday?! B-But that's two days ago!" She shrugged it off and beamed, letting go of the lever and going to sit beside him. "D-Do you have to pay for that?"

She shook her head. He leapt off of his seat and rushed over to it. Jenna rolled her eyes, smiling.

The sound of a fork scraping on a plate made Jenna shiver. She looked over to Marlene's bed, a nightlight was shining onto a textbook. Tomorrow they were to start their end of year exams, she was doing some last minute studying, of course with pasta.

"Will you keep it down!" Lily hissed, snatching her fork.

"Give it back!" She leapt off of the bed, the book plummeting to the floor. She pounced at Lily and screaming soon made the other girls switch the lights on. Jenna performed a quick spell on the door, so nobody could hear.

The girls scrabbled for the fork on the floor, Marlene finally retreated to her bedside with her beloved fork.

"I need a padlock on these curtains." She cried, snapping her white curtain shut so no one could see her.

"Well, as now we can't go back to sleep after somebody woke us up, how about a little prank?" Jenna rubbed her hands together, kicking her planner to the wall so her notes fell out.

"I guess we could-" Alice stopped when she saw Jenna open her window. A breeze played across her chestnut hair. "What are you doing?"

"I love the night air," she grinned, showing her teeth. She then closed her eyes in delight as she took in the smells and sounds. Only the faint sound of owls was all she could hear.

"What's the difference between daytime air and night air?"

"Oh, silly. Night air is cooler and calmer, no one is rushing to classes, o-or having a bad time."

"Except Snape, of course. I heard James tried to cut his nose off." The majority of the girls giggled, rolling about laughing.

   "Well, it is rather b-"

   "Jenna!"

"Okay, now let's plan that prank!" She walloped the window shut and fell into a heap on the floor, slipping on the shiny wood. She giggled along with her friends.

Severus Snape was sleeping soundlessly when he heard a floorboard freak. He was sat bolt upright in trauma but his exhausted brain soon switched off. He fell back onto his pillow, snoring.

"He sounds like a pig!" Jenna shrieked, falling back onto her lower area. Abigail slapped her on the cheek and put a subtle finger to her lips.

"Quiet."

Alice performed a simple spell on the other boys, so they couldn't hear anything. She did the same also for the other Slytherin dorms.

"When are we actually going to do it?" Lily queried, folding her arms as she held the pumped-up balloon by her side.

  "Now."
