Chapter Ten

"Jenna? Jenna!" A quiet voice called. She opened her eyes and saw James, Sirius, Remus, Peter and... Severus?

"Yes, Lily is here, she was hexed by Lucius." He replied quite shortly.

"Oh..." Jenna turned to the others. "Where's Marlene?"

"Relax, she's over there. She's... well, let's just say she came off worse than you." James smiled, stepping back so Remus could talk.

"Jen, I know this isn't the best time but," he took a deep breath, "your dog... she, got into the common room and it's now in shreds," he chuckled.

"Ugh, Luna!" Jenna smiled, imagining her ripping the curtains apart.

Jenna and Marlene were treated rather well in the hospital wing, they didn't have to go to any lessons but Jenna insisted, she couldn't miss one for anything.

They both lay awake each night, whispering to each other about who could've slain the unicorn the other night.

"I bet you a million dollars it was Voldemort," Marlene whispered, her arms behind her in a very casual sort of way one night, before going to sleep after a dose of sleeping draught.

Jenna lay awake, thinking, most nights. This wasn't because of the unicorn, it was because of the figures in the cloaks. Who were they? And what were they doing there? Her question was answered the following day by a visit by Professor Dumbledore.

"Ah, you've been to the Forest, I see, your father was always up to mischief like that," Dumbledore beamed, taking a seat on the stool at the end of Jenna's bed. He had just finished talking with Marlene.

"I- um-" Jenna blushed sheepishly, wishing the ground could've sucked her in.

"Curiosity isn't a sin, you know," he said, looking at my book. "So," he said quickly,"I'm guessing that you have several queries."

"Yes... what were those figures in the black cloaks? The ones that tried to attack Marlene and I?"

"Dementors. About the foulest creatures that walk the earth nowadays. They suck all the happiness out of a place. I... prefer not to get in their way. They guard the wizard prison, Azkaban," he shuddered suddenly.

Jenna and Marlene both were dismissed that evening: they rushed up the stairs, taking them two at a time. Three days stuck in the hospital called for a midnight feast.

The girls dormitory had fallen into a lengthy slumber. Wrappers littered the floor and beds: Bertie Bott's, Fizzing Whizzbees, Chocolate Frogs and some Muggle confectionary.

"Guys... GUYS!" Sirius Black whimpered in the early morning. It was still pitch black outside.

"What?"

"Ouch, Peter, my foot!"

"Sorry James..."

"T-There's a massive spider on my bed..." He gasped, as though he thought it was going to kill him.

"Here, Sirius, this-"

"Engorgio," James muttered, pointing at the tiny spider. It grew to a giant size: Sirius started screeching.
***
"Can you hear that?" Lily Evans whispered.

"Yeah, I'm going to check." Jenna hopped out of bed, past Alice's bed and into the landing outside both the dormitories.

"Bed! Now!" Professor McGonagall shouted, before running into the boys' dormitory.
***
At breakfast, James' gang looked incredibly sleepy. Jenna knew where the awful screeching emitted from now.

"Peter, that's the last of the Cheerios." Sirius snapped, staring into his empty bowl.

"So?" Peter said, pouring the cereal into his own bowl.

"So, you should learn to share." Sirius huffed, crossing his arms and turning to Remus.

Jenna chuckled and gave Sirius their box of Cheerios.

"Settle down class. You may take your seats." Professor McGonagall bellowed, walking quickly into her classroom.

"I wonder what we're doing today," Jenna muttered to Marlene, making sure it was quite discreet.

"Yeah, I hope it's something to do with animals," she whispered back.

In fact, Marlene was correct. They were turning rabbits into bowls. Jenna succeeded after a few tries, but Remus and Marlene both got it on the first go. Jenna got the impression they both memorised their textbooks, unlike her.

"That was so fun!" Marlene beamed, her books slightly slipping through her arms as she leapt out of the classroom.

"Yeah." Jenna replied, though not fully interested. She was staring at a Hufflepuff being bullied by a group of Slytherins.

"Hey, push off!" She growled, glaring at them and standing in front of the Hufflepuff, guarding her.

"What you gonna do? Get the teacher?" They all let out a shout of laughter.

"Yeah, if you find pleasure in bullying these poor souls," Jenna crossed her arms. Marlene had just noticed where she had gone and rushed over, just as the Slytherins sluggishly plodded off.

"Sorry about them." Jenna muttered, glaring at their backs.

"T-Thank you Jenna..." the Hufflepuff girl ran off, thoroughly embarrassed.

A textbook on Astronomy lay at Jenna and Marlene's hands. Dark circles were under their eyes: homework was tiring.

"If this is first year homework, I wonder what fourth year is like." Marlene sighed, throwing her pencil down onto her notebook.

"I look forward to it," Jenna smiled, pretending to write quickly. The girls both giggled.

"Jenna! Here!" Remus ran in, a ripped piece of paper in his hands. He thrusted it into her hands.

Please note that first years who have taken part in Muggle Studies can visit Florida this term on February the 1st.

Professor Twinkleberry.

"Wow! Are you going?" Jenna beamed, giving the note to Marlene to read.

"Yeah, but all my savings will be gone..." Remus sighed then shrugged before running upstairs.
