Lake of Avalon

I know not everything is like BBC merlin, I am changing it fight me

~Alex

Percival looked extremely scared, while Lancelot and Gwain were very interested in Izusa.

"You don't have to worry. She will only do what I alone tell her to. She would never kill or hurt you." Merlin assured them. Arthur walked over to her, and gently stroked her neck. Ebony got up, and walked over to Izusa carefully. She then experimented with trying to turn into a dragon. She more resembled a lizard with wings. Although this made Percival laugh.

"I can ride Izusa while you guys ride the horses. I have an idea of where I need to go. She can help carry the horses down without my magic."

Merlin looked to Izusa, and explained to her what she needed to do. She understood, and carefully grabbed onto the first horse, and then lifted it up into the air, and dropped it down to the flattest ground closest to the cave. She repeated this with the four horses. All the while Arthur was trying to contain his laughter, Gwain and Lancelot were watching curiously, and Percival was just looking at the dragon bewildered. It seems that they have very mixed reactions to a dragon.

Once Izusa finished, she flew back to Merlin, and let him climb on.

"Lancelot can take Night. I will have Izusa speed through Camelot to try to find a way to the lake while escaping detection. Once we reach the border, just find a place to hide yourself and the horses." Merlin told him. Izusa lifted off of the ground, and hovered over the horses, waiting for the others to slide down and climb on. The soon started to ride as fast as they could back to the border. Merlin flew above to watch for any signs of life ahead. It took what felt like an hour to reach the border, and they hid the horses in the water behind a dam. The water only rose a couple of feet, but the extra height of the old beaver dam made an acceptable place to submerge the horses while allowing them breath. Everyone made sure to not get wet, since the cold air would definitely kill them if they got wet. Everyone besides Arthur hid up in a thick tree.

"I'll be back soon. I know where it is, I can retrieve whatever I need to find, and come back." He told them.

"Good luck Merlin. You can do this." Lancelot told him.

"I love you." Arthur said. Merlin blushed.

"I love you too, Arthur." Merlin parted from them, and he hastily flew Izusa low to the ground as he located the Valley of the Fallen Kings. He remembered a small pathway. Too narrow for a horse to follow, but narrow enough for a skinny person. He had always thought it was a thick crack in the rock, but he had a feeling that there was more.

"If you sense anyone nearby, fly away, and don't make yourself seen. Only come back if I call." Merlin told her. He then jumped off, and slid into the crack. He went in sideways to be faster, and be continued. It was very dark, so it had appeared as a crack, but it was in fact a tunnel of sorts. He lit a blue flame with his left hand, and held it out as he walked to see where to turn. There were no forked paths, just a continuing single narrow path. Just as Merlin felt hopeless of finding an end, he saw the light finally shine through. He extinguished the flame, and crawled out of the rock to see the familiar lake. The Lake of Avalon.

He knew an easiler way of access, but too many knew how to get to the lake. This would be a new route that no one could follow. Merlin watched out for his surroundings, and then hurried to the lake. He kneeled down, and looked at his reflection in the water.

Suddenly, everything became calm. He had no negative thoughts. He did not think of the war, or the outcome that may happen to Arthur. He didn't think about immortality or death. He just thought of happy thoughts. He remembered the good times with Freya, and the fun times with Arthur. So much adventure that he loved. He looked at his reflection, and it soon turned into someone else. A muddy image of a woman. Soon the picture cleared, and Merlin recognized her. Freya. She looked back to Merlin, not saying a word. Just smiling. She did not look dirty and wounded. He looked clean. Her hair look brushed, and she wore a blue top of some sort. She gazed lovingly into Merlin's eyes. She then revealed her hands, that held a sword. The blade was silver, and there were gold writing on the blade. She seemed to hand Merlin the sword, and Merlin saw too arms emerge from the water, holding the sword. Merlin took the sword from her hands and looked at it. When he looked back at the water, she was gone. Only the reflection of himself was in the water. Merlin looked to the center of the lake, and felt like he was looking at someone, yet no one was there. He heard a voice echo in his mind.

'It's been so long since I've seen you, Merlin. How long it has been since I've felt your touch.' She told him.

'The sword is your key to success. If is made for the true King of Albion. But it is also made for you. You must release something hidden away for a long time. He says that the time is now to set him free. The time has come for the final battle. I do not have a long time to speak, so I will make this short.' She paused.

'You must first free him, and the people of Albion. Then you must make the call. The call to summon those who posses clean souls. They will help you in their time of need. There is an opening soon. The enemy will leave the castle for only a short time. You must release the people and him so you can fight. Once you have done that, you need to make the call. They will know where to go, and they will fight with every ounce of strength of free will in their body. You must hurry. The sun is forever setting soon. You can do this Merlin. I believe you can do this.' She told him.

"Thank you Freya. Can you answer me one thing? Are you at peace?" He asked. He could hear a quiet giggle in his mind.

'Even after you have fallen in love again, you still care about others. I am the happiest that I have ever been. Everyday I can travel to different lakes and rivers and oceans, and witness something new every time. I have watched you carefully. I can tell that you belong with the one you fell for. I may still love you, but I would rather watch you be happy with another than suffer for eternity. Goodbye dear Merlin.' Her voice faded away. Merlin could no longer hear her, and his constant thoughts flooded back into his mind. He knew their talk was over, and felt sad for it. But still he quickly thought. He carried the sword with him, and quickly traveled through the narrow rock pathway, back to Izusa.

Thankfully she was still there. Be climbed onto her, and held onto the sword tightly. As they took off, they he kept Izusa flying through the trees so she was less visible. They raced through the forest, and started to hear yelling from the side. He could hear a group of foot falls trying to keep up with them.

"Keep flying. We'll find somewhere to find soon." Merlin whispered to Izusa. She flew a little slower, but kept her wing flaps quieter. Besides the sounds of wind and the occasional rustle of trees, Izusa was silent.

Merlin realized they had veered off the path, and so her took a sharp turn to reach the dam he left the others at. That was a mistake. Someone heard them move as Izusa broke a branch, and were chasing after him on foot. Merlin could easily fly away, but he didn't want to leave the others by themselves. Plus he couldn't let the others see Izusa. Merlin jumped off of Izusa with the sword, and turned to her.

"Fly back to the cave. Don't let anyone see you. Kill anyone you see that looks like a worker of Morgana." He told her. She flew off quickly, and Merlin looked at the dam. He saw a head peek out from hiding. Merlin made a gesture to stay there, in with the head nodded and hid again. Merlin say the three older men run after him.

They immediately started clashing swords, and fighting. But the men where overpowering him. Merlin knew what he had to do.

As he fought, he gave an effort to win. He played mind tricks on them, so they knew he was using magic. As Merlin fought with this one man as the other two watched at the side, Merlin struck him down with the sword, killing him. The other two fought Merlin, yelling obscenities and words of disgust. Merlin had already felt horrible for killing the man, and so he could not bring himself to kill another. As he fought, he got tired, and the men started to strike him in the legs and arms. At one point, Merlin knew he wouldn't be able to win the fight. He lifted the sword, and threw it into the backed up river, next to the dam. It slowly sunk down to the bottom, safe. Just as he let go of his sword, he felt a calmness, with some burning pain in his chest. Merlin looked down, and saw a sword protruding out of his chest. He dropped to his knees, and laid onto his side. His vision blacked out.

From behind some brush, the others watched the scene quietly. It took Percival and Gwain to hold back Arthur from running after the two men, but they knew Merlin would be alright. They all knew he would be alright. They watched the man pull the sword out of Merlin's chest, and gave him a good kick to the ribs. The other spat onto him, and walked off laughing.

"Fat fighter he is! He could have killed us all, but he was too much of a priss." Commented the man.

"You're right. He paled so bad when he killed Jame. Queen Morgana will be so pleased with us. She might even make us knights." The two laughed together and walked away. Lancelot watched Merlin carefully. When the men where well out of sight and sound, they ran to Merlin's side.

Arthur popped open Merlin's shirt buttons, and watched his chest wound miraculously heal before his eyes. In a couple moment, Merlin gasped, and sat up. Lancelot patted his back, and Merlin took a moment to think.

"Do you remember us?" Arthur asked. Merlin looked at them.

"Gwain, Lancelot, Arthur, Percival." He said as he looked at the group. He looked down recalling events.

"Morgana, Izusa, Ebony, Freya. I remember." Merlin told them. Arthur rose an eyebrow. 'Freya?'

"Did you say Freya?" Arthur asked. Merlin nodded, and Lancelot helped him up while Merlin button his shirt again.

"When I went to the lake, Freya's spirit gave me the sword, and told me what I needed to do." He told Arthur. The atmosphere quickly got awkward, so Merlin tried changing the subject.
"I thought those men where going to take the sword, so I threw it in the lake. But if we go in, we'll get hypothermia." Merlin said, finally thinking about what he did. Percival went to retrieve the horses from the water, and the group thought about a way to get the sword. Ebony bounded up to Merlin, and nudged him roughly with her face, which made Merlin laugh. Merlin thought for a moment.

"Ebony. Are you able to turn into an aquatic animal, and retrieve the sword from the river?" She got excited, and ran to the shore. She turned into a very large lizard, and swam down. She resurfaced with the sword handle in her mouth. Turning back into a large panther, he hopped around happily. Merlin stroked her fur, and grabbed the sword.

"What does the sword say? How did you get that sword?" Gwain asked. Merlin held up the sword's blade.

"'Take me up' and 'Cast me away.' Gwen's father made this sword. It is the most perfect sword in man's history. And it was forged from a dragon's breath, so it can kill even the strongest of magical creatures and humans. I am not even sure if it could kill me. Only I and the old man are immortal." Merlin told them. He eyed the sword, feeling it's inscriptions. Arthur slowly released Merlin of the sword.

"What must we do with the sword?"

Merlin shook his head and brought himself to reality.

"We must sneak into the castle, release the prisoners and Kilgarrah, then return to the valley where the old man lives." Merlin told them. Arthur looked surprised.

"We have to release Kilgarrah? What will he do?" Arthur said astonished. The others looked on confused.

"Well he can burn the enemies. He can also transport us, so once we release the prisoners then him, we can ride out to the valley. I can call everyone, and the fight will commence. This should take about a day or two. We will fight through the night, and by dawn we should have a clear winner. Whether it is us or them is still undecided."

"Who the hell is Kilgarrah?" Lancelot asked.

"He's the dragon that is locked up under the castle. He's been there for awhile, and now is the time to release him." Merlin told them. They nodded, and Arthur fiddled with the sword. It had the perfect balance, and it was still precisely sharp even after Merlin fought with it.

"I think if we can ride on Ebony's back, she can bring us to the underground tunnel system. I created it a couple years ago in case of an emergency." He told them.

Arthur replaced his old sword with the new one, and gave his old one to Lancelot. Merlin climbed onto Ebony, and had the rest of them load on. As they rode, Merlin felt invigorated. Dying had really made him feel alive.

"Okay so the tunnel is outside of the Camelot limits, so we'll have to go further away to get to it. I put a weak sound barrier around us so we could talk quietly without anyone noticing." He told them.

"Alright then. Lancelot. I have only met you once, and here we are going to save Camelot together. Tell me about yourself." Arthur broke the ice. Lancelot had his hands around Arthur as they rode.

"Well I've always wanted to be a knight. Merlin tried to help me, but it did not work out. When we were in the woods fighting a creature, I saw him use magic. I wasn't afraid, and I promised to keep his secret. I decided to leave since you probably would not want me there as I tried to commit a felony. I had fallen in love with Gwen while I was in Camelot, but I left. When I returned, I bumped into Merlin, and we caught up. Then the whole fighting started, and here we are. Off to retrieve your kingdom." Lancelot joked around. Arthur laughed.

"So I can trust you?" Arthur asked.

"As long as Merlin trusts you, I will help you in whatever way I can." Lancelot assured.

"And I will always trust Arthur, so be ready to help a lot once we get Camelot back." Merlin jumped in. The group talked for a bit, releasing some stress they have, and they arrived an hour later to the tunnel.

They hopped off, and Merlin pushed a gigantic stone out of a hole hat the other's had not even noticed.

"You made all this?" Percival asked as he peered his head down. It was large enough to crawl in, and it looks like the tunnel would consist of crawling.

"I made this in a one year time span. But I was weak then. If I needed to, I could made a couple in half the time. Just make sure to take shallow breaths inside the cave. You can pass out easily." Merlin warned them.

"Make sure to run back to Izusa. We can take it from here. If I call Izusa, you follow her." Merlin told Ebony. She understood, and started to run back to the woods. Merlin hopped into the hole, and used his magic to situated the rock. He pushed through, and lead the ground with a floating blue light to lead the way.

No one talked, they just crawled quickly.

"How far are we from the castle?" Percival asked. He was getting squished from his broad body frame.

"We have a mile of crawling, and then it opens up so we can run the rest of the way." He told them. Everyone speed up, wanting to be out of the narrow tunnel.

A long time passed, and the group finally reached the opening. They took a big breath, and started running. Soon they came to an end, with a board on the wall. Merlin removed the board, and crawling into the more open dark space. He helped the others through the hole, and boarded it back up. They walked up some rocks, and they heard the echoing of chains and wing flaps. Merlin laughed internally as the others had not known where they were. Once they reached a higher point, Kilgarrah made himself known. The group screamed, and flattened themselves against the wall.

"Hello Merlin. I see you have come back for me." Kilgarrah greeted.

"How could I forget? I promised to release you." Merlin assured him, laughing.

"Is that Kilgarrah?" Lancelot asked, pointing to the large dragon.

"Who else could it be? Now we have to continue." Merlin told them. "We will be back soon. I'll need you to help us fly out of here." Merlin told Kilgarrah. The group pressed on, and they reached the opening.

"Okay. Once we pass this gate, we need to be silent. Any knights we meet on the way need to be silenced somehow. When we reach the prisoners, I will show them another tunnel that leads out of the dungeons." Merlin informed them. He unlocked the gate, and the group stealthily walked through the back halls.

As they walked, Merlin knocked out anyone he saw. They were able to make it to the dungeons quickly, and he knocked out the many guards.

Merlin walked into the dungeons with the group, and soon the people rejoined, but Merlin hushed them down.

"Please do not make any noise. We need to get you out quietly. No one make a sound." He ordered them. The group walked around and opened each door everywhere, and Merlin showed them to the very back. He walked into a cell, moved the hay around. A trap door surfaced. With the extensive amounts of cells, no one noticed the one that had a way out. Merlin opened it, and made the people file inside. He stopped a sorcerer that he remembered.

"The end of the tunnel is right outside the castle. You will need to get the people to run to the border quickly. Blow the ending of the tunnel if it doesn't budge." He told him. The man nodded, and filed into the tunnel. Merlin got a glimpse of the inside, and everything was coddle stone, and unused. It took about 20 minutes of silence as Merlin filed everyone into the tunnel. Most likely by now the first people have reached the end. Once the last person was inside, Merlin closed the door loosely, and covered it with hay.

"We're done. We just need to get back to Kilgarrah and make a scene." Merlin smiled. They sneaked back, and knocked out anyone on the way. Most likely an alarm of some sort had been set since someone has to have seen the bodies. They quickly ran into the cave, and locked the gate.

"We're back. Let's get the people's attention when we leave." Merlin laughed joyfully. Kilgarrah craned his neck down for the group to climb on, and Arthur gave Merlin the sword. Many of them had gotten over the shock of the ginormous dragon. As Kilgarrah started to fly upwards, Merlin rose the sword, and struck the chain. The link shattered, and they were free.

"HOLD ON!" Merlin yelled as they flew out of the ceiling. Kilgarrah rose up and up into the air, and he was now just above the castle. They could hear the noise, screams, and orders from above.

"KILGARRAH! FLEW OVER THE CITY AND DO SOMETHING TO SCARE THEM!" Merlin yelled over the loud wing flaps.

"Gladly." Kilgarrah responded. He flew over the city, making sure to hang low.

"The fight has just started! Where is your savior now!" Kilgarrah's voice bounded down to the city. He flew off, and Merlin steered him to the valley.

"What's next?" Gwain asked. Merlin cracked a nervous smile.

"We fight."
