Chapter 3

Meanwhile at the Florida airport

With their feet barely kicking off, feeling terribly numb, Giorno and Jotaro came out of the plane's boarding gate with the rest of the passengers, notably fatigued and discomforted. Both of them were quite unkempt as they wearily dragged their suitcases. It had been a nine and a half hour long flight after all.

Without saying a word to one another, they went through security and then headed to the elevator. It did not take long before they spotted some available benches; they did not hesitate to put down their luggages and rest. After a long yawn, Jotaro checked his wristwatch.

"They won't be long in coming," he said, seeing a tired Giorno with dark circles stretching his limbs.

"Okay, but first, I just need to freshen up. I'll be right back," Giorno said before heading to the restrooms. Jotaro nodded and stretched a bit.

Although Giorno felt discomfort from having slept terribly on the plane, he was alert enough to watch his surroundings and thus not get lost. He had visited many years ago, but there were too many people and he did not remember where to go.

Except for the huge American flag hanging from the top floor of the airport, it was not quite how he remembered it. With some difficulty, he passed through the crowd that was coming and going to various places; they stopped at customer service, food stalls, and those small stores that were each an attraction that Orlando offered. They looked exciting and tempting, but he didn't intend to buy anything since he would just be spending a few days with his boss's family, which he would honestly settle for.

It didn't take long and feeling refreshed, he left the toilets. Once outside the restroom, he suddenly felt lost.

"Oh, oh..."

He no longer remembered the way he had come from. There were people, yes, but he did not know that such magnitude would make him feel so lost as if he were in another dimension. He had no choice but to try to walk around until he found Jotaro.

...

Meanwhile, with Jolyne and her mom.

While her mom drove them, neither of them said a word. On such occasions, there was always a topic to discuss, but not this time. From time to time, she looked at her daughter in the passenger seat, who sat in complete silence as she rested her chin on her palm, her gaze turned outward.

Not for nothing was she her mom, so she knew Jolyne was nervous. She didn't miss seeing one of Jolyne's fingers twitch from anxiety; she was unable to completely control it.

"Are you nervous, Jojo?" she asked with her gaze facing straight ahead. Jolyne turned, her eyes widening a little as if having a great secret exposed. "You seem restless."

"Who? Me?" She tried to play dumb. "Pff! Of course not, I'm fine. Not like it's the first time I'm seeing my dad."

"First time in two years. My love, it's all right if..."

"I'm not nervous. I mean, maybe it bothers me that after all this time, he thinks he can just waltz back in as if nothing has happened. He's a fool."

"Jotaro is... someone very complicated, but..."

"And is that why you divorced him?" Jolyne snapped with pent up irritation, cutting her mom off. She suddenly realized what she had said.

She looked at her mom, who grimaced. For so long, no one had touched on the subject of the divorce. Jolyne couldn't help but feel stupid. The last thing she wanted was to hurt her mom.

"It's a thing of the past. Whatever our relationship is, it doesn't matter, Jolyne..." she replied with some annoyance. A few seconds ago, she wanted to use words to show her daughter that her father couldn't be as bad as she made him out to be. However, guilt clawed at Jolyne's chest for making the comment. If her daughter resembled her in anything, it was that spiteful side, although the woman would never admit it. There was only one reason she kept in touch with Jotaro, and it could all be boiled down to being for Jolyne's sake, nothing more. The pair never talked about themselves or what they once shared.

"Sorry, ma. I didn't mean it."

The brunette just sighed and took her hand in her own.

"It's okay, Jojo. Just try to forgive your father." Although she spoke to her daughter, the words were also meant for herself.

She did not look at her daughter directly, but Jolyne gave her a smile.

"We're almost there," she said, forgetting about the subject. In a matter of minutes, they would meet the aforementioned.

With a tightness in her abdomen and sweat on her palms, Jolyne could already see the airport and a lot of parked cars in the distance.

...

With Jotaro

With the characteristic desperation that men usually have, he glanced at his watch every two minutes, wondering where his ex-wife and daughter were. They couldn't have forgotten about him, could they? He was still thinking of Giorno. Where the hell had that boy gone off to? It had been about twenty minutes since he left, yet he still hadn't come back. As far as Jotaro knew, only girls took that long in the bathroom. The place itself was quite crowded, so it had been difficult for him to see where Giorno had disappeared to. At any moment, the women would arrive. Jotaro just wanted to take a bath already; he did not feel capable of waiting for the blonde.

Deciding to call Giorno, he took out his cell phone from his pocket.

"Damn it..." He cursed under his breath when he realized that his phone was completely dead. He felt like an idiot for not being more careful. There was nothing left to do but to wait for Giorno to arrive before looking for his daughter and ex-wife.

A little further from where Mr. Jotaro stood, Jolyne and her mom entered with difficulty. Her dad had chosen a bad day, since it was holiday season

"Really! Could he have picked a worse day?"

"I think the years are finally catching up to your father. He used to be more careful." The woman began to rub her forehead. "I'll call him."

She took out the cell phone and dialled Jotaro's number. It would have rang immediately, but since his phone had been in operation for so many hours, the battery was irretrievably depleted.

The cell phone emitted a waiting buzz as she stood there with it pressed to her ear, but there was no response. Jolyne began to get impatient. She hoped she wouldn't have to enter the uncomfortable bustle and go looking for him.

"Any good?"

Her mom shook her head.

"Damn, no way. Stay here, I'll go find him."

"You don't have to go alone..."

"It's fine. I'll be right back."

Not wanting to waste any more time, Jolyne entered the fray, colliding with several people along the way. Really, her dad was going to ruin her day even without being present, especially now that she was forced to do things she hated. Too busy looking at the floor, she didn't pay attention to where she was going or who she was passing. A taller body collided with hers, causing her to hit something.

"Ah! Hell..." Jolyne cursed as her arm smacked into something.

"Sorry! I'm an idiot." Alarmed, the stranger with whom she had collided with rushed to apologize. He immediately took her arm, inspecting it to ascertain that he hadn't hurt her too much. Jolyne, somewhat uncomfortable, wrenched herself free from his grip. "It was not my intention." He was upset.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Just..." Jolyne looked up at the aforementioned. For a moment, she was disoriented by the obvious foreign accent, but she became speechless for a couple of seconds when saw how cute the young man with blond hair was. "Just be more careful, okay? Watch where you walk rather than keeping your eyes glued to your phone." She was still irritated.

Sensing her displeasure, he put his cell phone away in embarrassment.

"Excuse me, miss. Please don't see this as rude on my part. I honestly don't know where I'm going, and I tried to call my partner, but he won't answer. Did you happen to see a huge, somewhat intimidating man around here?"

Jolyne's expression changed, forgetting the faint pain in her arm. As he stared at her for an answer, she considered. An image of her dad gracefully came to mind at the description.

"Wow, what a coincidence! I happen to be looking for a huge old guy who seems to always be irritated and who definitely forgot to charge his phone."

Like Jolyne, the blonde man widened his eyes in surprise. Thinking about her comment, he chuckled. It could not be a mere coincidence, could it...

"And does that supposed old man usually wear an ugly hat that seems to be fused to his head?"

"Or have a strange obsession with dolphins?" They both laughed, now knowing perfectly well who the other was referring to, having the same depiction of that peculiar man. "For a foreigner, you speak English really well," she commented, referring to the way he expressed himself about Jotaro. It couldn't be more obvious.

"It could only be learned by living with Mr. Jotaro."

"Jotaro Kujo. That's right; sadly, he's my dad," Jolyne said, ignoring his response. "And you must be..."

"Giorno Giovanna," he introduced himself, making a small bow, for she was the daughter of his boss. "At your service, miss."

'What a gentleman,' she thought. It might be absurd, but she had projected the image of a certain youngster with black hair onto him.

"Jolyne Kujo," she repeated, finding the exchange somewhat funny. "Nice to meet you, Giorno. And no 'Miss', just Jolyne. Agreed? Labels don't suit me."

Jolyne's name tickled something inside him, causing him to look up and pay more attention to her face. That name, pleasing to the ear, caused him to be paralyzed for half a second. Somehow, it seemed familiar. But looking at her, he did not know what to search for exactly. He only saw the beautiful face of a young woman who markedly shared features with his boss. The eyes she possessed were greatly violent, filling him with nostalgia, although he was not sure. He was tempted to say something about it, but he didn't know what his lips would emit.

"Jolyne..." Giorno started, but he was immediately interrupted by said girl.

"Wait, they're calling me." She took out her cell phone, which was in a butterfly case, from her coat. "Yes, mom... Huh? I told you that I would get him." Giorno watched her gesture, nodding and rolling her eyes. "I knew it! That old man should buy one of those Power Banks or whatever... What? Wait for his partner?" The blonde paid extra attention upon being mentioned. "Ha! Coincidentally, he was also calling dad, but for obvious reasons, he didn't answer... Yep, he's standing here to my right. It was a coincidence that we ran into each other..." Jolyne looked around the place, locating something. "Okay! I understand, I know where. See you." She finally hung up. "All right, let's hurry."

"What's going on?"

"It was my mom. I know where my dad is. She says he's very impatient, so it would be better to go now." Without being fully aware of what she was doing, Jolyne grabbed Giorno's hand; it was something very typical of her when she felt pressured. However, the blonde did not know that. His expression was one of shock; a faint heat was in his cheeks.

...

With Jotaro

He reluctantly leaned his face into his palms, with his elbows resting on his legs, impatient for this torture to end. He could not feel any more uncomfortable. At his side was the mother of his daughter. They had not seen each other in so long, having abstained from any kind of contact.

The brunette, for her part, was busy glancing around, trying to locate her daughter and the young man named Giorno. She avoided speaking to Jotaro. Even if she wanted to know about his life or the flight, she didn't have the courage to ask. What would he think of her? Surely, nothing. The reunion they just had confirmed this. Jotaro showed nothing but irritability after spending so many hours on the plane. Upon seeing her, he had immediately asked where Jolyne was so that they could leave post haste.

'What does it matter anyway?' she thought to herself with a hint of sadness.

"...Is there anything new?" the man suddenly asked in a rather tired voice.

The woman thought she had misheard. Was that really Jotaro? She turned, seeing him stare at her with the same bored expression.

"No. Everything is fine, Jotaro."

He just nodded and looked away.

"And what about you?" she dared to ask.

"Nothing, really. I just work and work."

"I see..."

"I hope Jolyne doesn't mind my visit too much." It was strange, but the man who was always stoic showed melancholy when he pronounced his daughter's name. Noticing this, the woman was quickly overcome with empathy. Jotaro would be Jotaro, but his feelings for his little girl were sincere.

"I'm sure it won't bother her. She hasn't realized it yet, but she appreciates your being here."

"I mean, it's not her fault. And now that I brought Gior..." Jotaro stopped. She expectantly waited for him to continue with his venting, but he only stared straight ahead, stunned. Why? It was too strange to see him like that.

"Jotaro?"

The woman turned and followed his gaze, seeing a young pair holding hands... Oh no.

"Giorno! What the fuck!?" He roared as if a demon had invaded him.
