Chapter 2
"Are you okay?" she asked hesitantly. "You seem a bit sad."
She tried to make it look like she was only worried about that, trying to mask the fact that she thought he was about to end his life.
Following his decision to play the role she prescribed to him, he tried to think of the right answer. Surprisingly enough, the truth seemed to be the best answer to confirm her suspicions.
Although the idea of suicide never even crossed his mind since he saw suicide as a selfish getaway, he had to admit that he wasn't in a good place. That was why he could answer her truthfully and keep his strange game going.
"No, I am not." He said with a lot more bitterness than he expected.
He thought she would start talking about suicide not being the answer, or something cliche like that, so what she said surprised him.
"Would you like to talk about it? Maybe we can sit in that park over there, and you can tell me all about your problems. I hear that it is easier to talk about it with a stranger." She said.
It wasn't what he expected, but he felt he needed to tell her, to get it off his chest.
Also, he admired her subtle way of getting him away from the bridge, and the possibility of jumping.
"Okay, fine." He said, following her to the nearby park.
He used the opportunity to take a closer look at his "savior".
She was probably in her late twenties, just like him, and it surprised him that she had even noticed him.
People had become more self-absorbed and didn't seem to care about their fellow humans.
So what was so different about the girl in front of him?
Her long black hair swayed gently in the wind as he was trying to figure her out, and at the same time trying to understand his need to tell her all that was on his mind.
Maybe she was just in the right place at the right time. Or maybe he was playing the role of a suicidal victim, although he didn't think that was the case.
He needed to talk to someone who wouldn't judge him just because it wasn't "manly" to have all those emotions he had struggled with.
According to everyone else, he was supposed to be an insensitive player, or just bottle up his emotions and focus on other things. He refused to do that.
Ultimately, he realized that the reason he decided to tell her the truth was the fact that she was kind to him. She showed genuine interest which couldn't be said for his friends.
They were amazing to have fun with, but when it came to emotions, they seemed to be out of their depths.
Whenever the topic became too serious, they would start joking around or start talking about their previous conquests, and he just couldn't handle it.
He was sick and tired of that whole mentality, where a guy wasn't allowed to talk about his feelings without being labeled as weak.
He wanted to think that was the reason he agreed to talk with her, but the truth was much more unexpected, he wanted to spend time with her.
There was something in her deep blue eyes that made him want to know more about her and tell her about his feelings.
They sat down on the bench, and while she waited, she couldn't help but let her mind wander on the fact that everyone always felt comfortable in confiding in her.
Even people she didn't know very well would come up to her, and reveal their greatest secrets.
Usually, she was very annoyed by that. Somehow, she wasn't irritated by the guy sitting next to her.
She was happy that she was able to help him out in his hour of need. Nevertheless, she didn't pressure him to speak.
Gem knew that he would tell her what troubled him, they always did, but this time she felt a need to help however she could, which wasn't how she usually felt.
Normally, she wished people talked to someone close to them because it was difficult to advise someone you didn't even know.
There was something about the guy sitting quietly next to her, he seemed different. There was a certain vulnerability in his eyes. She wasn't sure if it was because of his current sadness, or if the guy was usually that vulnerable and open.
She hoped that he wasn't usually very open because the world was a cruel place. Whenever she allowed herself to open up to someone, it turned out to be a mistake. They would hurt her without even realizing it, and she didn't want the same for the handsome guy sitting next to her.
Her intuition told her that he was a sensitive guy, and for some reason, she felt an overwhelming need to protect him although she didn't even know his name.
All she knew was that she wanted to hug the sadness out of him, to stroke her fingers through his hair, to soothe the pain away.
When she realized what she was thinking, she panicked.
"What am I doing?! Maybe I should just leave, he won't jump now, I stopped him." She thought.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the guy's strong but unsteady voice.
"So where do I start?" He asked.
"You can start where ever you want, but starting from the beginning would be much appreciated." She said with a soft smile.
That was when he started telling her more than he ever planned, and he didn't care.
