sixteen | love me
song of the chapter: we found love - calvin harris ft. rihanna
-
My sobs have ceased. I just stay looking at my feet. Sniffs are what come out of me. Silence reigns upon each second that passes. I can't even look at myself.
Suddenly I hear footsteps of someone who runs up to me.
"It's okay, Seokjin. I'm fine, really." I say, thinking that it was him who just came to check on me.
To my surprise; not really, I hear a different voice.
"It's me." he says.
My breathing stops as I turn to the person who's now with me: Jungkook. He stands with a slight confusion on his features. His long hair is now pulled to a man bun, leaving a few strands of hair to cover his eyes. The dark suit he wears accents perfectly his figure, it's his golden Rolex that flickers when the sun hits.
Jungkook looks stunning.
I wipe my tears off my eyes, "Oh, I should go back to my shift–" I say to him, but he stops me with his hands on my arms.
Even after a few years, a single touch of his can bring shivers down my spine, butterflies in my stomach; make my whole body shut down.
He looks down at me, our faces close to each other, "Dae, please. What's wrong?" he whispers so only we both can hear.
It's been years since we've been this close.
I try to talk but nothing comes out of my mouth, opening and closing in attempt to speak. I just shake my head and lightly push him away. I din't have the guts to tell him.
Jungkook sighs, "You've been acting weird this whole week and I really want to know what's going on," he begins, "just because we're not together anymore that doesn't mean that I don't care about you, I do. We're family now, after all." the last sentence hurts, because it's true.
If only he knew what Bree is doing to him.
"Jungkook," I take a breath, "I'm fine. Seriously, I've just not been feeling good." Another lie comes out of my mouth.
He scoffs, the softness in his features disappearing entirely, "You think that you can fool me? I know you," he reasons, "I can certainly tell that something's off about you. Please, just–"
That is where I explode.
"Bree is cheating on you with Jean!" I let out, covering my mouth with my hands.
Jungkook furrows his eyebrows, "What?" he asks.
I take a deep breath, passing my hands through my face in frustration, "Bree," I start, "she's—she's cheating on you with the guy at the diner. I saw a text on her phone the other day–"
"You checked her phone?" he asks.
Out of all the things I said, that's the one he heard?
I nod, "But she had left it unlocked and that's when I saw the texts."
A profound silence begins between us two. I don't dare to speak and I bet he doesn't as well. The both of us are standing in front of each other, not knowing what to do or say next.
After the long silence, Jungkook sighs, "I can't believe you." he responds.
"Excuse me?" I ask him, startled.
"Bree told me this would happen." he tells me as he points at me, chuckling.
"She told you what?" I inquire.
I just told him the truth and he doesn't believe me?
"Bree told me that eventually her family would try to separate us," he began, "I thought that she was joking, you know, since I knew you'd never be capable of doing something like that to us. I guess I was wrong after all." he sighs.
"Jungkook–" I try to reason with him, but it comes with no avail.
Jungkook shakes his head, "Do you still love me?" he asks.
"That doesn't have to do anything with this, I'm just telling you what I saw." I tell him but he ignores me.
"Dae, do you still love me?" his voice falters and he walks closer to me.
"Do you?" I ask him as I avoid answering his question, startling him.
He widens his eyes, "D-Dae, you know that I can't answer that."
"Then you know that I can't answer either. I'm telling you what I saw, it's your choice whether you believe me or not," I defend myself, my heart beating faster by the minute, "but when have I ever lied to you?" I ask him.
"Never." he responds.
"Exactly. Now if you excuse me, I'll get back to my shift." I say before colliding my shoulder with his as I walk back to my shift.
Tears are threatening to fall down my eyes, but I walk with my head held high. The truth always wins, it's just a matter of time before life shows the reality of things.

"Is it a habit of yours to always be late?" Yoongi jokes as we walk to the restaurant.
He had seen the mood that I was in and decided that he wanted to eat something with me after work, so I could feel better. This was in no way a date. It's more like a outing with a friend.
I had told him everything and explained the situation I was in. He listened and then hugged me.
I slightly smile, "Got stuck in traffic." I reason.
Yoongi nods and opens the door for me.
The people all wear fancy dresses and suits. We we're certainly dressed for the wrong occasion: both with jeans and the Gina's diner white shirt, signaling that we just got off work.
I look at Yoongi who shakes his head, fixing his blonde hair to fit inside the gray beanie, "I feel like we might me a bit underdressed, Yoongi." I tell him.
Yoongi smiles, "Nope. We're just here to eat after all, right?" he says as he signals a waiter to us.
"Table for two please." he tells the waiter who starts leading us to an available table.
The waiter leaves us at our table and we sit down. I look at my surroundings, scanning the area.
Yup, we are very underdressed.
I pick up the menu and read the options to choose from, but just as I start reading I hear my name being called.
"Dae-Dae!"
Yoongi looks at me and sees my expression, "Please don't tell me that your cousin and her boyfriend are coming this way?" he asks as he turns his head to his right, same as I do.
"How did you–"
"I see the guy from the diner who you said was Jungkook with a red haired girl who kind of looks like his girlfriend," he starts, "which I guess is your cousin."
Sadly, I have to answer only one thing as I watch the red haired girl pull Jungkook with her. The red dress shows Bree's slim figure while Jungkook's now white button up shirt accents his small waist. They look like a famous couple.
"Yes, yes they are." I say as my cousin hugs me tightly while screaming of excitement in my ear.
Meanwhile Jungkook stares at Yoongi with his eyes furrowed and his tongue pocking his inner cheek. This only means one thing that I learned from when we were together.
He's jealous, but why would he be?
-
The clicking of utensils fills our space. I feel his stare on Yoongi and I as I eat silently. I look at him, making him look away.
"So...you work at Gina's too?" Bree asks Yoongi.
Yoongi nods, "Started today, actually."
Bree claps, "Oh! Congratulations, then." she exclaims.
Her elbow nudges Jungkook's waist and he looks at her, "Huh–congrats." he mumbles.
I sigh and continue to eat my food quietly. Honestly, my appetite has been gone ever since Bree decided to sit all of together instead. I have no appetite ever since he sat in front of me.
Bree furrows her eyebrows, "Dae, you're awfully quiet today," she says out loud, "are you okay?" she asks.
I blankly stare at her, "Yeah. Just tired from the shift today."
Jungkook chuckles and I stare at him, "Do you have something to say, Jeon?" I retort.
He smiles at me, twirling his fork around his food, "No. Don't you?" he motions to Yoongi and I with his free hand.
"Actually I do." Yoongi clears his throat.
I turn to my friend and nudge him slightly, begging him with my stare to stop.
"Be my guest." Jungkook says bitterly, his stare as cold as ever.
Lord have mercy...
Bree just stares at both men, not knowing what to do. Frankly, so do I.
Yoongi smirks, "Dae's really beautiful. Don't you think the same, Jungkook?" he says, placing a hand around my shoulder.
Wait, what is going on?
"She'll always be beautiful." Jungkook stares back at Yoongi. Tension spreads around our table.
Bree clears her throat, looking at me as she shrugs her shoulders, "Well. My cousin is and will forever be beautiful, yes. How about we order dessert?" she tries to change the subject, I can tell she senses something weird.
I gulp, remembering Jungkook's words: she'll always be beautiful. He didn't even care that Bree was with us. He just said it.
"Let's order dessert." Yoongi responds, a smirk creeping up on his face.
Jungkook once again pokes his tongue in his inner cheek before nodding, "I agree, what about you Dae?" suddenly his face softens as he turns to me.
Without a word I nod before turning my gaze back to my now cold food.
Oh boy. What a night.
