5. Regardless of What Happens
"What the fuck is going on, and why is my- my father involved in this?" I spit, walking towards him, stopping right in front of him.
"Kellin, please. I came down and saw him attacking Alex, so I helped. He mentioned a Bostwick and so I thought it would get to him if I said something. I didn't know it had anything to do with you, I swear," he puts his hands up.
"It sure sounded like you knew exactly what you're talking about. So why don't you explain what the fuck is going on?" I speak, quite quickly, I may add. Calm down.
"Not now. I can't," he speaks. He grabs my hand. "Kellin, you're just going to have to trust me right now."
"No. I can't. I spent the last 10 years of my life trying to forget, and suddenly everything. Every thought I had, every feeling I felt. It's all coming back so why don't you explain why that's happening?"
"Kellin, I swear to god, I'm just trying to help. I have no idea what's happening, okay?"
I take a deep breath, suddenly aware that his thumb is gently rubbing my hand. "Okay," I say timidly.
"Okay," he repeats. He pulls me into a hug.
"Okay, what the actual fuck is happening now? Why was I attacked? Who's Bostwick?" Alex speaks from behind me.
I pull away from Vic and turn around. "Alex, it's nothing. It's okay. Uh- are you okay?"
He touches his cheek. "I don't think anything's broken. But uh, are you sure everything is fine?"
I nod and turn back to Vic. "Are you okay? Did you get hurt?"
He lifts his hands. "Just bruised knuckles," he grins, walking forward, closer to me. "Are you okay?"
I smile and nod. "Oh, Alex, do you want to stay over?" I ask. I feel Vic's hand tangle with mine. "I have an extra room."
He shakes his head. "I have to make sure Jack doesn't overdrink or something. It's okay," he explains. "I should really go," he sighs, starting to his place. His apartment is about five minutes away, walking distance.
"Vic, I really want to help him back, you know, make sure he's okay," I say, turning to him. He nods.
"Okay, do you want me to come with you?" He asks, slightly gripping his hand harder with mine.
"No, I'll be fine. I just want to make sure Alex is okay," I sigh, looking back at the figure slowly getting smaller from distance. He nods and lets go of my hand. "I'll see you later?" I ask slowly. He smiles and nods. I wave and rush after Alex.
"Kellin, what are you doing?" He glances at me. "Go spend time with your new boyfriend," he nudges my arm, shooting me a toothy grin.
"I'm making sure you get back safe, you idiot. You're lucky I love you," I roll my eyes. He lets out a soft laugh.
"I love you too, Kelly bear!" He wraps one arm around my waist. "But now that you've offered... You get to clean up any barf!" He rushes his words before dashing off.
"Alex!" I groan. I rush after him, stopping at the door, where he's catching his breath.
"Wow, I am really out of shape," he coughs, hitting his hand against his chest. "But," he sighs, "I still beat you," he grins. I roll my eyes and he opens the door. We walk to the elevator and up to his floor.
"So, did you just ditch Vic?" He asks, fidgeting with his zipper. Oh right. Confined spaces. He can spend about five minutes in the elevator, but a second after that and he starts to freak out.
"No, I told him. So what exactly happened?" I ask, trying to keep his mind off the elevator.
"Well, I was walking out when this guy comes up to me. He grabs my shirt and drags me into the alley, and of course, I thought, I'm dead. But no, instead, he shouts about you and how if I don't call you down, he'll shoot me. But in my head, I was like yeah, well how do I know you won't just kill both of us? So I just acted like a scared puppy, which wasn't very difficult, mind you. He punches me and threatens me again. But suddenly, out of nowhere, he's thrown off me and I hear punching and shit like that. So I text you and you come down, and then I realize it's your boyfriend," he explains with a dramatic narrator voice like he's telling the most interesting story of all time.
"So in other words, you were a wuss and had my boyfriend save your skinny ass?" I roll my eyes. The doors open and we walk out. He visibly lets out a sigh.
"Well I wouldn't word it that way," he pouts as we walk to his place. He unlocks the door and walks in. He shares the apartment with Jack, which doesn't really surprise me since they're practically attached by the hip. Those two are like siamese twins or whatever. They've been friends since seventh grade, so that would explain it.
We walk in and spot Jack laying on the couch, Tyler on his phone, and Brendon laid face-down on the table- with nothing but boxers on.
"Oh hey," Tyler smiles, looking up. I walk over to Brendon and blink, looking back between him and Tyler. "Oh, he's wasted as fuck," he sighs. "Well, you have fun," he stands up.
"Wait- where's Nick?" I spin around. Alex is poking Jack on the cheek. Tyler thinks for a second before pointing to the kitchen. He waves and rushes out the door.
"Jack, wake up you half-burnt sausage," Alex continues to poke him in the cheek.
I walk into the kitchen to see Nick sitting at the table, drinking an empty mug. He's facing away from me, so he probably has no idea I'm here. I walk up behind him and tap his shoulder. He jumps and glares at me.
"Kellin, not now. I'm trying to drink this coffee," he points into the empty mug. "And trying to feel the love tonight."
"Nick, are you still drunk?" I blink and take the mug away from him before he breaks it. I set it beside the sink and walk back to him.
"Apparently, I don't sober up very quickly," he shrugs. He stands up, immediately stumbles against the wall. He walks out and slaps the back of Brendon's head. The latter jumps up and tumbles to the ground.
He groans and looks up. "Fuck you, Nick," he mumbles, burying his face in the floor.
"Wake up, Jack," Alex sighs and shakes his shoulders.
"Wake me up inside-" Jack mumbles.
Alex rolls his eyes and turns to me. "Help," he says like a little child.
"Hey, carry your own weight. I'm managing Nick and..." I look over at Brendon. "Nevermind, just Nick."
I purse my lips and glance at Brendon, just sprawled on the ground. Nick stares at him and pokes his lower back.
"How about we have Nick and Brendon sleep here, you can sleep in Jack's room, and I'll have Jack in my room?" Alex asks, not turning to me.
"Oh, are you going to sleep with your boyfriend?" I smirk. He lets out a long sigh.
"Kellin, I will beat your ass to next week," he breathes out.
I roll my eyes and help Nick up. Alex and Jack have two longer couches, and a single one, so I get Nick to sit down on the one for three people.
"Jack, wake the fuck up," Alex pokes his nose. Jack grumbles something and swats Alex away. "Jack, I swear to god, I will not give you any Advil in the morning," Alex threatens. Jack groans and opens his eyes, staring at Alex.
"You wouldn't dare," Jack narrows his eyes. Alex grins and stands up, turning and stare down at Brendon. He sighs and turns back to Jack.
"You're with me tonight," Alex grabs his arms and helps him up. "Come on, you drunk bastard," Alex groans as Jack's weight shifts onto him. He lugs Jack into a room. I walk over to the couch and pick up a blanket. I drop it over Brendon before walking to another room- what I'm assuming is Jack's room.
I open my phone and stare at the notifications.
Vic: Did you make it to Alex's place?
Vic: Kellin?
Vic: I will come over and beat up whoever hurts you.
I smile to myself as I click open the phone and text him back. It's nice to know people care about you.
Kellin: I'm fine. Some of my friends were drunk as fuck tho
Vic: Hah, thought so from the night at the bar.
Kellin: So are you okay?
Vic: Yeah. I should let you sleep.
Kellin: okay... Goodnight, Vic
Vic: Goodnight, Kellin.
I turn the phone back off, ignoring all of my other notifications and set it down on the nightstand, flipping off the light.
