5: Charming
*Tyler*
Tyler: Hey, is this Mitch? This is Tyler!
Mitch: Tyler? I'm glad you texted me! How are you?
I stared at my phone, my hands trembling - actually trembling. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stop. I was so nervous, I felt like crying.
I made Ty go out and get the cupcake because I was too shaken up to go in and see Mitch again and look like a complete idiot because I totally forgot to order a damn cupcake because of his pretty face. I felt like such a dork because of that, but this boy... He was so damn perfect.
I sighed and tilted my head back, shutting my eyes, resting my phone face down on my chest. How did I get so lucky to have a boy like this...? Why did I catch the eye of Mitch fucking Hughes? I was a nobody, I was just a dorky waiter who lived alone with my cat - and he kissed me before he even knew my name. I felt like I was in a fairy tale, and Mitch was my prince. My charming. How could I answer Prince Charming's text? Not for the first time in my life, I was at a total loss for words.
"Dude, how long are you gonna take up my bed?"
"Sorry..." I mumbled, and sat up.
Ty watched me wisely from the doorway. "It's the boy from that wedding last night, isn't it?"
I tensed up and cursed myself inwardly for the reaction. I was never good at hiding my emotions. "What boy?"
"You know, the boy you made out with? That boy?"
I covered my face with my hands to hide the blush.
"I can't believe you have a crush on that player! You could do way better."
"He's not a player, and I definitely could not do better." I replied, before I sighed. "I got his number, but I don't know what to say."
"I could text for you."
"No way in hell."
"What?" Ty asked defensively. "Why not?"
"Because the last time I let you do that, you verbally smacked down my professor and I was suspended from class."
Ty smirked a little as he remembered, looking out the window with a satisfied air about him. "Still proud of that..."
"Well I'm not."
"Look, what'd he say? Read it to me."
I looked down at my phone again. "'Tyler? I'm glad you texted me! How are you?'" As he finished, I looked up at Ty again, prompting a response.
Ty blinked several times. "...That's it?"
"Yeah, and I don't know how to reply!"
"Hm, yeah, you're right." Ty's tone was dripping with sarcasm as usual. "This really is a tough one, one of the hardest cases I've ever seen. I'll have to do some research before I can give a definite answer, but for now, I'd advise you say something along the lines of... let's say... 'I'm good, how are you?'"
I rolled my eyes, ignoring his shitty sense of humor. "Ty, what if he asks me out?"
"...I don't understand your problem."
"What do I say?!"
"Do you want to go on date with him?"
"Well, duh, you've seen him, he's a knockout."
"So you say yes, Tyler, this isn't hard."
"But-"
"Tyler." Ty whacked me upside the head gently. "Don't worry. Take a chance, or whatever. You really seem to like him, so just let yourself go!"
"But what if he-?"
"Hurts you? C'mon, Tyler, you have plenty of friends who will gladly serve his ass to him." Ty patted my shoulder and headed to the door. "I can't say I'm good with relationships, but one thing I've learned so far, is that you should follow your instincts. Everything will end up alright." Then he left.
I stared after him for awhile before I sighed and laid still. Once I reflected for a bit, I finally picked up my phone and continued the conversation.
Tyler: I'm good! You?
Mitch: Not bad. Now that that small talk is over, do you believe in alien life?
I couldn't help but laugh a little. Charming...
Tyler: Yeah, I'm sure there has to be something. My dad and I used to always watch tons of sci-fi movies when I was a kid, so I'm kind of a geek.
Mitch: it's okay, I respect nerds. What other things do you like?
Tyler: Well... I like sunsets... Long walks on the beach...
Mitch: Lol same. You're funny - but what do you really like?
Tyler: I like things like books and movies and playing with my cat and I like shopping a lot.
Mitch: Shopping? Maybe we can go together sometime?
Tyler: That sounds like fun!
Mitch: So... In terms of other things you like to do, would you like to see a movie with me on Friday?
Tyler: I can't... I have work Monday through Friday. Sorry!
And then he went quiet. I had this awful anxious feeling in my gut that I had messed up and scared him off, but I knew I couldn't skip work, no matter how much I wanted to. I hadn't taken a sick day since k started because I really need to pay the bills.
I stayed at my friends' place for the rest of the day. We watched a lot of Disney movies to cheer him up, and it seemed to work when paired with his cupcake. Still, though, I couldn't stop thinking about Mitch all day. I felt like some stupid cliche teenager, but I could you blame me? I had never been in love before, so I was excited to learn more about this new frontier of emotion I was suddenly faced with.
Once Jin and Ty got Adam in bed, they played some video games together and I left at about the time they started - I'd never been a big fan of that sort of thing. Maybe when I was a kid, but I was too busy now. I drove home in the dark. It wasn't far to my apartment building. As I walked though my front door, while Bo ran up excitedly to greet me, I felt my phone buzz. My heart soared in hope, like a giddy child excited by any positive word from his parents. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket, nearly dropping it in my frenetic state, and open up my texts.
Mitch: We'll have to see. Goodnight, Tyler.
Tyler: Goodnight!
I smiled at the small exchange. Hopefully they would be able to arrange a date soon... I really wanted to see Mitch again. I was so in love already. I picked Bo up and hugged him tight and told him all about the boy I met again while I gave my kitty attention.
Then I took a shower and went off to sleep happily, excited and hopeful about a new kind of life with someone new. I hadn't had any family in... a long time.
*Mitch*
There was no way in hell I could wait till Saturday to see that cutie again. I only had to the end of summer to score. I had to figure out something...
So, I kinda just... improvised.
Author's Note:
I don't know why the chapters for FD are so short and I update so slow, but oh well! Hope you enjoy anyway! ^^
