Chapter 4

Sorry this is a little late, I have some personal biz going on

Bruce rested his head in his palm and sighed. He tapped his fingers on the table and thought about everything that'd happened last week. He got kidnapped, got stabbed, escaped the kidnapper, and interrogated a murderer who told him it could happen all over again.

"Master Bruce, are you listening?" Alfred asked, cutting Bruce off from his thoughts. Bruce dropped his hand and looked up at Alfred.

"Yeah, yeah I was listening." Bruce replied, looking back down at the history book in front of him. Jim Gordon and Alfred both thought it would be best if Bruce didn't go back to school until this whole thing was solved so for the time being, Alfred was teaching him to keep him caught up.

"Is something on your mind?" Alfred asked, a little worried at Bruce being so spaced out. Bruce shook his head.

"No, I'm just a little hungry is all." Bruce answered. Alfred looked at the watch that read '1:15'. Alfred closed the book and stood up.

"I suppose it is a little late. Come on, I'll make us some lunch." Alfred said, walking out of the room, Bruce following behind him. They both walked to the huge kitchen. Alfred opened cabinets and the fridge and pulled out different ingredients to make sandwiches.

"So what's really on your mind?" Alfred asked, putting together sandwiches for the two of them. Bruce helped some but there's not much he could do.

"Nothing Alfred." Bruce replied, handing Alfred a jar of pickles. Alfred gave him a disbelieving side glance as he took the jar.

"You never were a good liar." Alfred said with a sly smile, flinging pickle juice from his fingers in Bruce's face. Bruce backed away and laughed, wiping the juice off his cheek.

"I've just been thinking about the man. From the interrogation." Bruce confessed. Alfred sighed and began putting everything away.

"Both Jim and I told you it wasn't a good idea, and you still haven't told me what that man whispered to you." Alfred replied, giving Bruce a pointed look.

"It was nothing of importance." Bruce said plainly, taking a bite of his sandwich.

"Everything about this situation is important, Master Bruce. Why is it so bad to tell me?" Alfred said. Ever since Bruce talked with Alex, he wondered what the man had told him.

"Because you'd make me move to Switzerland." Bruce answered, slightly joking but he also knew it was true. Alfred chuckled a bit at the answer.

"I've already been considering it." Alfred replied, picking up their empty plates to put in the sink. When Alfred turned around to say something else to Bruce, he was gone. He knew where he had gone to but decided to just leave him for a bit. The kid had gone through a lot in the past couple weeks.

Bruce paced around in the study, trying to remember every detail of what happened. He got out the case files of the men from three weeks ago and placed it on the desk.

He read everything about the case and the two men but it never said anything about them being in some sort of gang or organization. Whatever it was, they did a good job hiding any relation to it.

"Damnit.." Bruce whispered to himself, hitting the desk out of frustration. A picture of his parents fell off the desk and onto the ground. Luckily nothing shattered. Bruce picked up the picture and stared at it. He thought for a minute when his eyes went wide. He put the picture back in its place then quickly grabbed the file and ran over to the small couch, picking up the laptop from the coffee table

He searched through the file until he found two pages about each of the criminals. Both of the parents were labeled as unknown but oddly they both had a sister named in the file. Even more odd, the sisters had the same name: Alyssa. Bruce noticed that only one of the Alyssa's had a last name that matched the brother: Mansley. The other one had no last name listed.

Bruce opened the laptop and searched the name Alyssa Mansley. Hundreds of searches came up but nothing of who he was looking for. Bruce tried to remember the nickname of the woman Alex told him in the interrogation room. Blooddrinker? No, that wasn't it. Blood...sucker! Bloodsucker, that was it. Bruce typed in the nickname after the real name.

One link to what looked like a news article popped up. Bruce clicked on it and a real article popped up for a couple seconds when suddenly the screen went black. Bruce looked confused at the computer, checking to see if it died but it was still turned on.

It stayed black for a little while longer when bold red words began to appear. Bruce read along in his head.

We knew you were smart..
but we don't like that..
you made a mistake to come here Bruce..
waxaad ka qoomami doontaa wax kasta oo aad samaysay..

The laptop shut off before he could write down that last part. He was much too shocked to write it even if he had the time. Bruce tried to turn the laptop back on but the screen stayed black. Bruce kept trying to get the laptop to work when Alfred walked in.

"Master Bruce, you've been in here for hours. Why don't we-" Alfred started but stopped talking when he noticed all the papers from different files strewn around the room and Bruce frantically clicking on his laptop.

"What on Earth happened in here?" Alfred asked instead. Alfred picked up one of the sheets from the floor and read over it, recognizing it as the two murderers case.

"Hey, I thought we were leaving this to the police, that's why we told them about it in the first place." Alfred said, not very pleased that Bruce was investigating this again. Bruce looked up at Alfred as if just noticing he was in the room.

"I know her name." Bruce stated, closing the broken laptop and putting it back on the coffee table. Alfred gave him a weird look that was meant to say 'who?'. Bruce noticed the confusion and explained further.

"The woman who attacked us in that warehouse. I know her name. I think she might be the two men's sister but I'm not sure. I searched up her name and clicked on an article but the screen went black and words showed up on the screen. Now the computer won't turn back on." Bruce replied. Alfred still seemed a little lost but he understood the majority of it.

Bruce told Alfred what the words said except for the last part since he didn't remember it nor was it in English and Alfred was more worried than before. These people knew Bruce was finding out more about them.

"After this, I don't want you investigating any more about this. This is too dangerous for a child." Alfred said.

"I can find more about these people than the police can. They're showing me things that they won't show the GCPD." Bruce countered. Alfred shook his head and left the room, taking out his phone to tell Jim all that Bruce told him.

When Alfred left, Bruce leaned back on the couch and sighed. He was surprised when he heard a noise come from the computer. Bruce opened it to see it working again but an email had been sent to him.
