The bar was known to be a gang spot. If you weren't part of a gang once you came in, you were either ignored and not served or came out as an accomplice. Knowing whether one was part of a gang or not wasn't hard, though.
Jungkook lights a cigarette as he walks in, smoking as the others there did the same. Upon entering, you always receive looks—They analyze you to determine if you were there to drink or to snoop around.
The young criminal had been here once before, not for business. The moment he had walked in with Taehyung when he had just turned 18, the boys were constantly harassed for being too young and had few cuts on their faces for disrespecting a senior of the bar once they left.
"Whatcha having?" The bartender asks, knowing he'd have to answer a certain way to know if he was allowed to be here.
"Whatever the Latin king would have."
The bartender nods as he grabs a cup and fills it with beer. "You here for business or just staying out of trouble?"
"I'm looking for a couple guys that might be able to help me out." Jungkook slides the notecard towards him.
The bartender is quick to frown. "Kris? As in the boy that used to be in Junmyeon's gang?"
"Used to?" He tilts his head in confusion. "I was told Kris and Junmyeon worked together on something along with these two other boys very recently."
"Yeah no, Sehun and Kai follow Junmyeon around everywhere but Kris left the gang a few months back when he was caught stealing drugs to sell them for a higher price." The bartender points over at an empty booth. "They fought about it right over there."
Jungkook sighs as he drinks from his beer, shaking his head afterward. "Do you know where I can find at least the two others? I need to get another two names from them."
The man across the bar chuckles. "Seems like you are being sent on a wild goose chase."
"You've got no fucking idea."
"Well, their gang usually stops by every once in a while. I couldn't tell you when, though." He grabs the cup Jungkook has almost finished, "Want another one?"
"Nah, thanks though. How much?"
After paying, he makes his way to leave, but a hand lands over his shoulder. "Never seen you around here."
Jungkook clicks his tongue as he turns around. Shit, it's Jay Park. He happened to be the worst man to stumble upon if you were one of Yoongi's members. He wasn't very fond of Yoongi's authority at the gatherings and mostly avoided going to them.
"Hey there. I'm Jungkook." In any other situation, the boy would have said something snarky, anything to spark up a fight. Even if it was Jay Park, but tonight, he needed a clean, unbruised face.
"What's your business here boy?" The man had tattoos all over him. Arms, neck, legs, face—His body was a canvas to stained needles.
"I am trying to catch a snitch." Being honest was the best option here. If you lied to Jay, he would find out the truth one way or another.
"What crew?"
Jungkook pursed his lips. "Min Yoongi's."
The boy sees as Jay's jaw clenches and he is quick to scoff. "Of course Yoongi can't keep anyone in line. Just like his daddy, he's probably gonna get killed by one of his own."
Controlling his anger, Jungkook doesn't let what the man says affect him.
"I'm not here looking for trouble. If you'll excuse me." He makes his way out and lets out a breath once he finally can breathe anything other than cigarettes and cigars. He hadn't even smoked half that cigarette before it disgusted him.
That was odd, cigarettes didn't disgust him. He throws the cigarette down and rubs his shoe on it.
Dialing up Yoongi in the car, he starts driving to Jimin's thinking spot. The sun was setting, maybe he'd wait for him there.
"Hey Kook."
"Just had a run-in with Jay Park."
"Ooh, fun. What'd he say this time?"
Jungkook rolls his eyes. "That you'll end up just like your dad, killed by one of your own."
"Funny as always." Yoongi laughs over the phone. "What did you find out?"
"Nothing at all other than Junmyeon was working with someone that was no longer part of the gang. Isn't that against the rules of gatherings?"
His guardian sighs, "Yes, it is."
"Some guy named Kriss who had stolen from Junmyeon before. The other two weren't there, I'd have to regularly visit and hope they are there, an idea I am not excited about."
"Bear with it for me, please. If I could go investigate myself, I'd do it."
"Yeah, why can't you?" Jungkook groans as he sniffs his clothes, smelling cigarette smoke on himself. "That place stinks."
"If I were to meddle with Junmyeon's arrest when I've already gotten into a bit of trouble myself, it'd be suspicious. It may not look like it, but there are spies everywhere. Cops are on our ass and I don't trust my people but you and Tae." Yoongi's tone was serious but it quickly switches to cheerful. "You two are the best people for this."
"Sure we are. I'll be home a bit late, and don't worry, I won't be doing anything bad."
"I'll make sure to leave dinner in the microwave for you."
Jungkook hangs up and looks down at the napkin and the GPS. This doesn't look right. Why would Park Jimin—a soft-looking boy that was a barista, be coming here?
The boy puts his hair up as he exits his car, pushing the door closed with his knee. He was currently underneath a bridge, graffiti decored the walls of the passageway as if it was abandoned. Despite the cars driving atop of the bridge, there's practically no security here.
He wasn't alone. He hears faint music as he keeps walking further in, the music becoming louder as loud huffing accompanies it.
Jungkook then stands before a very much not expected scene.
Jimin was dancing vigorously on par with the music emitting from the boombox he had brought with him. He wore a white hoodie that with each movement, exposed his stomach. Along with the white hoodie, he wore black joggers that fitted his figure quite nicely, in Jungkook's opinion.
As the music comes to an end, Jungkook claps slowly, startling the older to yelp.
"That was really good."
"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" Jimin backs away, as if Jungkook was going to attack him.
"Well your little lie about how Hoseok is your boyfriend didn't work. I'm a thug, not an idiot." Jungkook huffs as he sits down on the floor near the boombox. "I'd lie and say some sappy soulmates thing but Hoseok told me."
"That dickwad." Jimin crosses his arms over his chest, sweat dripping down from his forehead. "I don't want you here."
"That's too bad, cause I'm staying so we can talk."
"Talk about what?" Jimin scoffs as he stares right at Jungkook and immediately he has to look away. Jungkook's eyes were soft and kind when looking at him and that's the last thing he needed right now to stay mad. "I'm sure Hobi blabbed about why I don't want to have anything to do with you."
"I'm sorry about that." Jungkook places his hand over his chest and takes a deep breath. "I fucked up a year ago. I was irresponsible—Well, more than usual... I can't turn back time but if I could, I'd take it back."
The blond stands in silence, head facing away from Jungkook's direction.
"Look, I don't care if you don't want to be with me—If you'd rather be with Hoseok or alone." Jungkook pushes his knees to his chest as he keeps looking at Jimin, searching for some sort of answer. "But I want to make it up to you. I don't want my selfish actions from the past to cause us both to die."
Jimin's head snaps up as he turns to face Jungkook. "I don't want to associate myself with more trouble."
"I'm not trouble—I mean, I won't be." The boy sighs as he shakes his head, trying to make himself look better. "Look, right now is the worst timing to try and quit this whole life but I have a real job. I don't commit crimes other than a few petty stuff I did with my—"
"You contradict yourself a lot." Jimin talks with his hands, raising them in frustration. "You're not in a gang but your guardian is the leader of gang. You're not trouble but you ask Heechul things about a drug shipment and hand him some cocaine. You have a real job but you reek of cigarettes and I know you don't smoke often so where have you been? You don't commit crimes but—"
"I get it." Jungkook stands up, the same frustration in Jimin courses through him, and not because they were soulmates. "I get it man, I'm a thug covered in tattoos and scars with a shitty background and even shittier life. If I had some control over most of it, I wouldn't be here trying to prove myself to you. But I can't. I can't go back in time and stop my parents from kicking me out or from Yoongi taking me in,"
Jimin watches as Jungkook's expression goes from angry to one that emits regret, but mostly sadness as he rambles on.
"I can't turn back the clock and stop myself from getting these stupid tattoos or stopping myself from being chased by some guard and falling face first onto the ground. I can't change who I use to be two days ago. But I can change who I am tomorrow."
The blond stands with crossed arms, still not sure of his soulmate's words. He doesn't know a thing about him—well, no he sort of did—and he didn't want to give in just because of guilt.
Sure, Jimin didn't know about his life but was that really an excuse to give him a try?
It apparently was.
Sighing, the older uncrosses his arms and grabs his phone from on top of the boombox, handing it to the other. "When I'm ready, I'll text you."
Jungkook's eyes light up and he quickly grabs his phone, creating a new contact before handing him back his phone.
"This doesn't mean anything." Jimin points at his phone. "I still think you did have some sort of control over your actions. You don't live in a complete paradox. You live with a man that is corrupted, but that doesn't mean you should be too."
Jungkook tries not to let his confusion show. To him, Yoongi wasn't corrupted. His guardian was born into this life and he did whatever was possible to not let anything happen to him or Taehyung.
Jimin just didn't know that—not yet at least.
Jungkook gives him a quick bow. "Thank you for listening to me."
Jimin sighs as he grabs his boombox. "If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna have to go and find a new spot for myself."
"You don't have to do that. I came this one time and only." Jungkook starts backing up. "I've said what I needed to say, I'm done here."
Jimin watched as Jungkook turns around and walks away and he can't help but wonder what went through his head.
If he would ever actually be ready enough to text him the way he said he would.
