Jungkook is sitting in one of the tables as his hand is being attended by his soulmate.
Who knew my soulmate would be a boy?
"Do you know how much shit I go through because of you?" Jimin says angrily. "For two years I've felt every injury, every stupid fall you've taken—"
"I'm sorry—"
"Like seriously?" He tightens the gauze around his hand which causes the both to wince in pain. "You know about this whole thing and yet decided to go and get tattoos in painful places. Seriously, I did not need that sudden pain on my collarbone or my fingers!"
Jungkook looks down, ashamed for not ever taking the whole soulmates deal too seriously. "I'm sorry, I didn't think I had a soulmate if I'm being honest."
"Well you do." Jimin sighs as he finishes with wrapping Jungkook's hand. He puts his hands on his own lap and sighs. "I had to deal with all your pain for two long years."
Jungkook looks confused. "You're older than me?"
"Of course I am." The blond huffs as he crosses his arms. "And I've got to say, I'm disappointed."
"Ouch, that's harsh." Jungkook looks down at his hands. "What were you expecting man?"
"I don't know, a cop? I liked to think all this pain was from something good. Not gang activity."
"I'm not in a gang. My... my guardian is a gang leader that's all." Jungkook, for the first time in his life, is a bit ashamed of his life's situation.
"You're here asking a junkie who money launders for gangs if he knows anything about a spy in your little compromise of gangs." Jimin stands up, huffing. "You're in a gang."
"Then what about you?" Jungkook is sort of mad. Why was his soulmate being such a prick at their meeting? Isn't this a moment to be happy? A moment he had hoped would stop life's dullness, and Jimin was being so calm. "You work for the junkie."
"I get paid to serve coffee and keep my mouth shut. That's all." Jimin turns the lights off, daylight being the only thing illuminating from the outside.
Jungkook is beyond frustrated as Jimin grabs his bag from under the register, walking towards the front door. "Are you serious man? You meet your soulmate and you're not—I don't know, relieved? Happy?"
Jimin stops dead in his tracks as he turns around to face Jungkook. "Thirteen months and two weeks ago, you let yourself get hurt so badly, we both couldn't walk for three days. Your actions caused me to lose the opportunity to get away from this fucked up life. I'm not relieved or happy to meet you."
Jungkook follows Jimin outside and feels even more at a loss as he starts closing the door. "Can I please just have your contact info? Let me make it up to you."
"No thanks." Jimin clutches the bag's strap than hangs from his shoulder. "You can make it up to me by leaving me alone and hurting yourself less."
"Jimin—"
A car pulls up in front of them and Jungkook really couldn't hate more Yoongi's timing.
"Just leave me alone." Jimin then hurries his way down the sidewalk and Jungkook is left standing in defeat.
The window rolls down and Yoongi's cheerfulness really couldn't be anymore annoying right now. "Hey sweet cheeks, you ready to g—"
"Can you for once in your life shut the fuck up?" Jungkook opens the door to the back passengers seat and throws himself inside, really not caring for Yoongi's lecture right now.
"Well, I'll take that as a sign that—"
"Honestly hyung, not in the godamn mood." But as soon as he says that, Yoongi turns from the driver's seat and grabs his face tightly.
Holding onto it, Yoongi shakes his face harshly to call for his attention and Jungkook's eyes quickly land on his guardian's.
"I love you Jungkook but I'm real sick and tired of your attitude." Yoongi looks angry and Jungkook curses at himself because an angry Yoongi is the least of things he needed today. "I sent you on business that you agreed to, now talk to me or I'll kick you right back out this car."
Jungkook, for the first time on his own emotions, wants to cry. Today is his birthday and everything was going completely wrong. Nothing could have made his life harder than his soulmate rejecting him.
Finally being back home and avoiding Yoongi after his report, he hurries to his room. Opening the door and hoping to slam it behind him, he's met with a box in the middle of his room.
He slowly closes the door behind him, turning on the light. The box is plain with a scrap paper on top reading, 'For my baby boy' in Yoongi's handwriting.
Opening the box, Jungkook's eyes widen and he immediately feels bad for always giving Yoongi so much shit.
With both his hands, he pulls out a brand new PC, the monitor being hidden behind wrapping paper.
Why do I feel sad getting such a great gift?
Jungkook needed to make it up to Jimin, but he didn't know a thing about him. He had just met his soulmate and let him slip away.
He receives a knock at the door and he mumbles a low 'come in' while sitting on his bed.
The door opens and Taehyung appears, a worried look on his face. "Yoongi hyung looks angry. Did things not go well with Heechul?
"They went fine, I'm just an asshole." Jungkook turns to Taehyung as he has sat next to him at the edge of the bed. "I just met my soulmate."
"Usually that's a happy meeting..." Taehyung places his hand on Jungkook's shoulder. "Are you okay? What happened?"
The younger lays his head on Taehyung's shoulder, receiving a hand around his shoulder as comfort. "You're good at stalking right?"
His roommate laughs as he pushes him aside.
"Who do you need me to find?"
"A guy named Jimin. He works at Heechul's café." Jungkook hands him his phone.
"Is that your soulmate?" Taehyung asks as he puts in the password—Of course he knew it.
"Yeah... I guess this life and all it's injuries made him a bit resentful to meet me." The boy sighs as he looks at Yoongi's present. "And now I feel bad for always being so cold with hyung."
"He knows you don't mean anything bad. We get along worse than you two and he never stays too mad at me." Taehyung scoffs as he taps on the phone. "All you gotta do is apologize."
"Yeah, because that's so easy to do." The boy pulls up his hoodie and wishes he had a cigarette with him, or that he was allowed to smoke inside.
"Here." The older pulls up the phone towards his best friend and Jungkook lights up.
"Hey, that was fast." He grabs onto his phone and looks through Jimin's Instagram profile. "Wait, fifty three followers, this is a private account isn't it?"
Taehyung shrugged, "So?"
"Good point."
He starts scrolling from the very beginning, he didn't have many posts.
He was already jealous of whoever this Hobi guy was. Why should he be though? Jungkook didn't even know Jimin, why would he care?
"What do you think? Maybe you made a mistake, why wouldn't he be happy to meet you?" Taehyung asks as he has laid down on Jungkook's bed, sighing. "When I meet my soulmate, I'd rejoice."
"Yeah, might wanna stop hurting yourself and getting high twenty four seven, I'm kinda glad Yoongi doesn't let me smoke weed." Jungkook sighs. "Or maybe normal people wouldn't be mad and my soulmate is just crazy as fuck."
"I'm sure he has his reasons. I mean, you know what they say about not being with your soulmate after some time right?"
Jungkook frowns and he pulls his hoodie down. "No?"
"We die." Taehyung frowns back at him, a serious look completely changing the mood.
"Dude, are you serious? The say that if you don't meet your soulmate by forty, you just get sick and die."
"That's dumb! What if people don't want to be with their soulmate. Thi-This prick doesn't seem very appealing anymore!"
And then he takes it back as soon as he looks at the next post.
He just looked very lovable, his face alone attracted him to so many questions about him. What did he like other than tea and coffee? What was his favorite color? Would he care if Jungkook smoked? Oh no, he should probably stop doing that.
"Look, I've heard of a lot of people that don't end up dating their soulmate. You could just be friends with the guy." Taehyung shrugs as he digs in his pockets. "If my soulmate has a problem with me being high, then I don't want to fuck them."
"That sounds selfish to me."
Taehyung stands up to leave, throwing a brand new box of cigarettes into Jungkook's lap. "Hap' Birth you dick."
Jungkook laughs as he grabs the box and opens it, taking a cigarette out. "Hap' Birth to me." He didn't care if he'd have to fan the room out and Yoongi got even more angry at him.
He needed to keep his head off of this boy.
Setting up his new PC on his desk, he tells himself it doesn't matter. He thought he didn't have a soulmate his whole life, this just proves that he doesn't.
Jeon Jungkook didn't need anyone to be his soulmate for him to feel complete. He was never gonna feel complete after all the shit he's been through.
And yet, he sees himself opening his phone again and looking at Jimin's profile again and obviously, regrets it as soon as he reads the caption.
Scoffing, he throws his phone over on his bed.
"What the fuck do I have to do with your life, you midget?" Jungkook yells at his phone as if Jimin could hear him.
Thirteen months ago... not walking for three days? Oh. OH. Last year, Jungkook had gone racing illegally just to try and he crashed the car. He was fine but he had a fractured leg and was in the hospital for three days. After that he could move but not as well for a whole two weeks.
"God this is all your fault Jungkook." The boy hits his head in disappointment, wanting to have never even gotten in that car for not being successful with his intentions once inside.
Jungkook wanted to apologize. He wanted to really badly but how could he show up at the café again and just... apologize?
He takes his phone again and is tempted to look at his profile.
If he wanted to apologize, he should probably practice on someone he already has to apologize to. Jungkook drops the phone on his bed again and goes out his room, immediately he's met with Yoongi cooking something in the kitchen.
"Dinner isn't rea—"
"I'm sorry." Yoongi looks up, wide eyes at the sudden apology. That's not how it worked in this house. The boys would fuck up, they wouldn't talk to each other, and after some time they'd get it over it. "I fucked up. I'm a fuck up. And I can't fix what I've done in the past,"
Yoongi frowns because he doesn't know why he's being so extra about it. He hasn't done anything but been a dick.
"But I wanna be better. For you and for us." Jungkook sighs and he nods to himself. That was a good apology for Jimin.
"Um..." Yoongi gives the younger a weird look, for us? "Go off, I guess."
Jungkook smiles and nods as he walks back inside his room, giving into temptation and looking through Jimin's profile.
Jungkook couldn't help but smile. He was adorable and he already loved the snarky attitude he had with him despite everything he said. He wasn't someone that was easily manipulated, Jungkook could tell he was strong willed.
What was it that he prevented that had Jimin hating him? He wanted to make it up to him. Maybe Taehyung was right, maybe he wouldn't get the happy ending of romance but maybe they could be friends.
Would he like the fact that he gamed? Maybe, maybe not. If he danced, maybe he would like the fact that... he listens to music? Or that he liked fashion and just couldn't wear flashy clothes cause of his situation?
If the two dated, they could have matching outfits, Jungkook was never one for fashion but maybe Jimin was—
But of course, what was Jungkook thinking? Imagining himself with a boy he had just met, letting his fantasies run wild when he probably liked someone else.
Why would it matter then? Why would it matter to say sorry? He was involved with a gang, he wouldn't even live till thirty. A lot of Jungkook's thoughts right now we're basically rationalizing with the side of his head that didn't want to try and pursue anything with Jimin.
The other side of his head that went against his every principle and wanted to find Jimin right now or go tomorrow to the café and apologize for whatever it is he caused to happen, or in this case, didn't let happen.
"I just met my fucking soulmate..." Jungkook looks down at his phone and he catches himself smiling down at the boy.
What's wrong with me? Why am I suddenly hopeful when I never got my expectations up like this? Why am I weak for someone I don't even fucking know?
Jungkook needed answers. He couldn't let himself go to sleep without answers or he wouldn't get any sleep whatsoever. He comes out his room again and Yoongi smiles, his anger has left him rather quickly after that apology.
"Hey, dinner is still not re—"
"Did you or did you not meet your soulmate?" Jungkook asks and Yoongi can see the worry in his face.
Yoongi sighs. Can't even cook in peace anymore. He turns off the stove and points at the dinner table for the two to sit next to each other. "Is this about what Taehyung told me about?"
"Man, he really never shuts the hell up..."
Yoongi places his hand on top of Jungkook's, sharing a small smile with him. "I can't help you with this. My situation with my soulmate is really complicated."
"Please hyung, I just need to know how you felt when you met them." The boy pleads with his eyes as he grabs onto his guardian's hand.
Yoongi looks down and his dirty blond hair falls over his eyes, a sad expression over his face. "There are rare cases where you can have two soulmates. My soulmate had two soulmates. I still keep in touch with him because of the whole myth of people dying at forty when they aren't together..."
"Why aren't you guys together?" Jungkook is confused as he frowns. "If he has two soulmates, how come both you and the other person don't just live together with him?"
"Because he only wanted one and well, my situation is a bit complicated, isn't it?" Yoongi looks up and his smile is bittersweet to Jungkook's heart. Because as he talks, he is met with sweetness, but knowing he wasn't happy, made it bitter. "When I first met him, a lot of me changed. My thoughts circled a lot around him and all I wanted to do was to be with him. My head would rationalize every thought that I needed to be with him despite me not even knowing him well."
Jungkook places his other hand on top of Yoongi's. "I'm sorry hyung."
"It's okay. I have you guys. You bring me a lot of joy." Yoongi stands back up after tapping Jungkook's hands, going back to finishing up. "Have you gotten your answer?"
The youngest in the house looks down at this phone.
"I did."
He was going to be better for Jimin. Starting with a good night's sleep.
