A few months after Fleur first arrived in Chicago and met Canopy, she finally had the opening to explore the mess of the city. Thanks to Canopy's timing skills.
"Are you sure that this is okay?" Fleur hissed into the small radio thing that Canopy had given her in case she needed back up, if the occasion required it.
"Of course," Canopy's chuckle sounded through the radio.
Fleur rolled her eyes at her friend(as she had come to call the mech)'s chuckles, "Yeah, yeah. When I suddenly go missing, who's going to keep you company?"
"The internet," Canopy answered swiftly, amusement colored in his voice.
Fleur growled in frustration at being thwarted, "Meanie," she muttered grumpily.
"That the best you got?" Fleur could practically hear the smirk in Canopy's voice and she rolled her hazel eyes.
Fleur's lips twitched upwards at the challenge, "Slagging, carrier-fragging, afthole," she smirked as her friend was stunned into silence for a long period of time.
"I'm not even going to ask how you learned that," Canopy muttered, mostly to himself, but with Fleur hearing anyway.
Fleur chuckled as she ducked behind a support beam to avoid one of the drones, "Well, your timing was off slightly, buddy."
"Frag," Canopy cursed, "How much?"
Fleur glanced at her dusty watch with a single crack in it, "One minute and twenty four seconds."
Canopy groaned then went on to mutter to himself about his timing skills as Fleur stuck her head out to check if it was clear before carrying on with her little adventure.
Fleur sighed as she looked around the only place she knew as home in this world, "I always forget it, but we literally live in a dump."
Canopy sighed as well, "We sure do."
Fleur was about to respond when she heard a voice, "Hold on," she muttered quietly, couching down, lower to the ground as she headed towards the voice.
"What?" Canopy's voice asked quietly, hidden panic in his voice that Fleur was only slightly surprised at.
"I thought I heard..." Fleur trailed off as she spotted the source of the voice, "There's a kid in here."
"What?"
Fleur didn't respond as she carefully, and quietly made her way over to the young girl, all while remaining hidden
"Come on, Sqweeks, hold still," The young girl said to the blue bot.
The bot blinked its large optics at her before stilling completely as the girl attached something to it.
"Hello?" Fleur said gently, hoping not to startle the two as she left her hiding spot, but only failing as the bot(Sqweeks) fired up the tiny weapon he had as his young human friend yelped and ducked behind him.
"Calm down, calm down," Fleur's eyes were wide as she held her hands out non-threateningly.
"Who are you?" the girl demanded, her glare hard as she looked at Fleur from behind Sqweeks.
"I'm Fleur, nice to meet you two," Fleur smiled.
The girl hesitated as she and Sqwerks shared a look, "Izabella, and this is Sqweeks," she said finally.
Fleur was about to say something when her watch beeped, "Oh, scrap, we need to get under cover, like now," she grabbed the two and dragged them behind a massive pile of concrete and rubble.
"Who are we-" Fleur quickly covered Izabella's mouth just as one of the TRF Drones came flying past, buzzing slightly as it did, scanning the surroundings for anyone or thing alive.
Fleur, Izabella and Sqweeks waited for another minute after it had left before breathing out in relief, and Fleur taking her hand off Izabella's mouth, "Sorry about that," Fleur apologized immediately.
"No problem, thanks for hiding us," Izabella said, a grateful smile on her face.
Fleur nodded, "Canopy? You there still?" she asked into thin air, gaining odd looks from her two new companions.
"Reading you loud and clear, Fleur," Fleur couldn't help but let out a small laugh as the girl and her bot jumped at the sound of Canopy's voice.
"Your timing was almost spot on for that one," Fleur complimented her friend.
Canopy sighed, "At least one thing is going right."
Izabella's eyes were wide, "Who's Canopy?"
"Fleur..." Canopy trailed off, "Who's that?" he asked cautiously.
Fleur sighed, "It seems I may have found some new friends, Canopy."
"Which kind?" He asked hesitantly.
"A girl and a small bot," Fleur said, an apologetic smile on her face and Sqweeks beeped in offense.
"I suppose we can have more company..." Canopy sighed.
Fleur suddenly realized something, "Did you guys want to join us?" she asked them.
The two looked at each other again, conversing in beeps before looking back at her, "We'd be honored to join you," Izabella smiled as she answered for both of them.
"Brilliant," Fleur smiled before looking down at her watch, "We have about three and a half minutes until the next drone, so should we get going?"
Izabella nodded with a grin as she and Sqweeks followed after the flower girl.
