With the success of the 2nd Gen Tacoma...Toyota wanted to update the 10 year old style of the truck with a new version. They decided to redesign the front and rear end of the truck. The catch is that the cab and bed are the exact same as on the 2nd Gen just with a different front end and taillights. The engine and transmission changed to. The truck came with two engine options and 2 transmission options. The first engine option is the 2.7L 2TR-FE I4 with 161hp and 181 lb-ft or torque. The I4 is the same I4 in the second Gen truck just with a little more hp and torque. The new engine for this generation of truck is the 3.5L 2KR-FKS V6 with 278hp and 265 lb-ft or torque. This is a big upgrade from the trusty 4.0L. The 2wd transmission option for were the 5-speed R155 Manual Transmission witch was only produced for the 2016-2017 model year then the 6-speed RC62 Manual Transmission for the 2018-present years the last for the 2wd transmissions is the 6-speed AC60 Automatic Transmission. For the 4wd models you had the 5-speed R155F Manual Transmission for the 2016-2017 model years, the 6-speed RC62F Manual Transmission for the 2018-present years and the 6-speed AC60F Automatic Transmission. This truck is a really great truck and hopefully by 2024-2026 they will have the new redesign because Toyota usually "redesigns" vehicles every 7-10 years.
