Second Nature
Mountains of steel and glass,
Lashing out into the night sky,
A field of concrete expansions,
Pointing up high,
Over the horizon.
Electric pulse streaking
Down the line,
Scattered stars dancing
Across the asphalt,
A neon galaxy of
Radiant lights,
Shining, Streaming
So vast, so long,
A bewildering magnificence
That defies gravity and darkness.
~
I stare out the window,
Eighty stories high,
And behold the awesome
Power of ultra-human construction.
Beautiful and terrifying,
Bright and foreboding,
This second nature
That we all pay homage to.
