Introduction & Author's Note
Firedance is the second collection of poetry I have written for Wattpad. Like Moondance, some of these poems I wrote years ago while others I have recently written (or have yet to write). Unlike Moondance which feature poems about love and relationships, these poems capture a range of human experiences, some tragic and others hopeful, that make up life.
These poems were inspired by things I've witnessed and learned from both friends and strangers. For example, "Child-Age 7" was written after I had read the teenage diary of a young woman I befriended while I was in college. "Last Seen on Halloween" was based on one of those "Missing" posters I saw in front of a Walmart. Still, many of these poems were inspired by my own experiences. The poem, "Lost from Home," was written during my first year at university were I felt disillusioned by the campus community and was smitten with homesickness. Likewise, I actually wrote the poem "A Moment of Time" while sitting in a Mexican restaurant taking in my surroundings.
As always, I aim to give each poem a distinct and unique voice. I wanted the poem to have some "oomph" to it, to communicate something deeper and powerful. As I wrote in the "Introduction & Author Note" for Moondance, I admit that I am no master poet. Regardless, I am grateful for the opportunity to share these poems. I hope you find them moving and thought-provoking, even troubling.
About Point-of-View: Some of these poems are written in second person. The speaker in the poem can be a female or a male, an adult or a child, an actor or a narrator.
