❇Important Milestones
The next morning, you awoke to a certain adorable blue porcupine bouncing on your bed.
Well, technically you had woken up when he poked his head through your bedroom door, trying and failing miserably not to giggle.
You loved your baby brother, but that boy had no sense of stealth.
"(Y/N) wake up!" He demanded, each syllable puntuated by a bounce.
Keeping your eyes shut, you waited for his feet to hit the bed again before sitting bolt upright and sweeping him into your arms.
Pinning him to the bed, you tickled him furiously.
"Who do you think you are, waking me up like that?" You pretended to snarl, his laughter echoing through the household.
"Mum told me!" He squealed through his giggles. "Please have mercy!"
"Hm..." you pretended to debate. Valt hardly dared to breath, your hands resting precariously close to his ribs. "Did she make Beybread?"
Valt nodded.
"And did you leave some for your favorite sister?"
"Nika can't eat Beybread yet silly."
You almost choked on your own saliva.
The little munchkin chose that moment to wriggle out of your grasp and bolt down stairs into the kitchen.
"Don't you dare eat all that Beybread mister!" You shouted after him, leaping out of the bed and pulling on your dressing gown as you thundered down the stairs after the midget.
He was hiding behind your mum, who was cooking up what smelt like scrambled eggs.
You narrowed your eyes at the cheeky child who decided to poke his tongue out at you.
Swiping a glass of orange juice off the counter, you froze upon seeing Shu sitting at the table.
'Parents?' You mouthed to your mum, who nodded her head sadly.
It made you angry to think that a mum and a dad would just continually leave their son like this.
Hell, his parents and your own barely knew each other! Sure, you weren't a family of axe wielding maniacs, but that was just bad parenting.
Besides, who wouldn't want to spend as much time as humanely possible with such an adorable child?
Right then and there, you made a decision.
Like it or not, Shu was now just as much of a little brother to you as Valt or Toko.
He seemed to spend more time at your house than his own as it was.
You snatched up two pieces of Beybread for the basket that looked just like Astra Vortex, and dropped a kiss onto the top of Shu's head before settling down in the chair beside him.
"Morning little man," you smiled, sliding him one of the two breads.
He said nothing, looking quietly at the bread.
Clearing your throat, you decided to take another approach.
"So why did no one care to inform me that such an adorable child would be staying at our household last night?"
"I always sleep here!" Valt piped up.
"Shush Valt, I said adorable."
"Hey!"
That managed to get a small smile out of Shu.
"So, where did you sleep last night?"
"In Valt's room," he responded quietly.
You shook your head. He had slept on the spare matress? Fair enough, Valt's bed wasn't big enough for two, but still.
"That won't do, will it?"
Shu bowed his head. "I didn't mean to be any trouble."
Your heart fell, all you wanted to do was scoop the little boy up in your arms and cuddle him.
You narrowed your eyes and grabbed the uneaten breads in one hand and threw Shu over your shoulder with the other.
Thanking God for all the extra strength Beyblading had built up in you, you informed your mother you would be taking your breakfast outside.
You plopped Shu down on the stairs that led onto the grass and sat beside him.
You put the breads in your lap before turning to face Shu.
"Listen to me and you listen to me good, little man," you said seriously. "You are no trouble whatsoever."
He looked at you as skeptically as a five year old could, not quite believing your words.
"You Shu Kureni, are one of the most adorable kids I have ever met. Do you understand me?"
You poked him once in the belly, making him giggle ever so slightly.
"I'm sure your more than welcome to stay here anytime. But when you do, I don't want you to stay on that spare matress in Valt's room, okay? My bed is huge and you are hereby invited to crash there with me."
"Really?" He asked disbelievingly.
"Of course," you insisted. "Valt sleeps in there all the time, you're just as much of my brother as he is."
"But you're not my sister."
You shook your head at him. "Family isn't always realated by blood little man, family can be anyone you're close too." You reached out a hand and ruffled his already messy bed hair. "Like it or not, you're my brother."
"Promise?"
"Pinky swear."
The two of you locked pinkies and shook them seriously, in the most sacred oaths of childhood.
"I mean it Shu, you're my family. Just like Toko, Nika and Valt."
Shu smiled at you. "I like having you as my sister (Y/N)."
"Good, because we pinky swore and now there's no getting rid of me." You narrowed your eyes at the uneaten Beybread. "And my first big sisterly order is that you sir, but eat all of that Beybread."
He immediately picked ip the still warm loaf and dug into it ravenously. You could see your mum smilingly at the two of you frorm the kitchen window.
You too began to eat the sweet loaf that your mum was so talented at making. At a much more sedate pace, you tore off little chuncks and chewed them thoughtfully.
"So, I was thinking." You began conversationally.
"Did it hurt?"
You whipped around so fast you almost gave yourself whiplash.
"What was that, little man?"
Shu shook his head. "Nothing."
"Yeah, that's what I thought."
"If that's what you thought than why did you ask?"
"Okay mister, you have been spending way too much time with that blue jelly bean!"
Shu snickered.
"Did you just snicker?!"
He grinned innocently at you.
"My baby is corrupt," you muttered beneath your breath. "Look, do you want to hear my plan or not?"
"Of course I do."
You ignored any hints of a tone, and decided to just tell him your plan.
"So, I won a decent amount of money yesterday, about $200."
Shu's mouth gaped open. You were rich in his childish mind.
"And I had an idea." You paused for dramatic emphasis. "How would you and Valt like to go out and buy a Bey each?"
Shu's blood red eye's widened, unbelieving of what you had just said.
"Well?"
"You really mean it?!" He shrieked, jumping onto you in a hug.
"Of course I do."
"Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes!"
Such enthusiasm was the norm for Valt, but for Shu it was highly unusual.
"Alright," you groaned jokingly, prising his shmall form away from you. "Let me go ask my mum and then we can go get ready."
Shu was up and at the door faster than you could blink. "Hurry up (Y/N)!"
"Calm down already, the shop doesn't open until ten."
Despite this new piece information, Shu ran inside the house to tell Valt while you spoke to your mum.
"Hey mum?"
"Good morning sweetheart."
You smiled at your mother. Despite having four children to run around after, she was still up bright and early while your father slept in.
"So, I was wondering...." You trailed off, unsure of how exactly to approach your mother.
"Okay what is it?" She sighed.
"What do you mean?"
Your mum folded her arms and cocked her hip. "You only use that tone when you're going to ask for something that you think I'll say no to. So what is it?"
Internally you sweatdropped.
"Well," you stretched the word out. "As you know, Beyblade is an important part of any young child's life, and the boys are older than I was when I got Astra."
"And you want to get the boys a Bey?"
You nodded furiously. Your mum didn't sound like she'd say no.
She sighed again, mulling it over. "Xander, Valt and Shu?"
"Xander already has a Bey."
"So just the two?"
"I do."
"I can give you the money. You worked hard for those winnings."
You shook your head. "I want to do this for them."
"Well okay," your mum agreed.
Giving her a quick hug, you ran to find Valt and Shu.
"She said yes you two!"
Shrieks of excitement came as your answer. The two boys tackled you and hugged your legs.
"Okay, okay, go get dressed and brush your hair and teeth."
The two friends ran off to get ready while you made your way back to your room.
You pulled on a pair of frayed black shorts over a pair of black tights. Teaming them with a (F/C) blouse, you clipped your launcher to your belt and slipped Astra Vortex into a small pouch.
Valt and Shu's heads poked around the edge of your door, right as you were slipping on the red leather gloves you always wore.
"(Y/N) we're ready," Valt informed you.
"Shoes on?"
They nodded.
"Hair brushed?"
Affirmative.
"Are you sure about that Valt?"
The tiny child rolled his eyes. "Yes (Y/N), can we go now?"
You nodded. "Just let me get my boots."
A pair of lace up combat boots landed at your feet, courtesy of Valt.
Rolling your eyes at your little brother, you said nothing and tugged the boots on and stood.
You took the $200 from your dresser and slipped it into your pocket.
"Then let's get going."
The three of you thundered down the stairs. Yes, even your refined eleven year old self partook in the thundering. But you couldn't help it, this was an important milestone in a young boy's life.
_______________________________________
Valt, and Shu walked obediently by your side.
The boys had been running in front of you excitedly, but you had told them to slow the hell down if they wanted their Beyblades.
The three of you approached the shop where a young woman had sold you your Bey a few years prior.
The B- Pit was a large store that also served as a mechanics. The owner, a woman named Madoka, was extremely kind.
The automatic doors slid open and you stepped inside.
Immediately, Shu and Valt ran over to examine the wall rack that had numerous Beys on display.
You followed at a more sedate pace, and hummed loudly when you saw the ones they were looking at.
"You two really want these?"
They looked at you in confusion. "Why, what's wrong with them?"
You shook your head fondly. "Beys like Mad Gasher are good and all, but it's the ones over there you really want to choose from."
"What's so special about thise Beys?" Shu asked, looking at the display you were pointing at.
The display in question stood out a little more than the others, and each Bey it held was different.
"That's where I chose Astra Vortex from," you explained. "Those are a little more expensive, but they're definitely worth it. Completely unique and a mad power house if you train enough."
Their eyes widened comically, before turning a 180° and rushing over to them.
You laughed at how excitable they were, as they examined all of the different Beys.
"(Y/N) I want that one!" Valt exclaimed, pointing to a Bey in the dead centre of the very top row.
"What the hell Valt?" You muttered, not even able to see what Bey was in the plastic. "You do realise that lack of height runs in our family, right? I'm short too."
"But (Y/N), I need that Bey!" He pleaded, his lower lip trembling. "It's special."
"Okay, okay," you hushed him. You could understand the connection between a kid and their Bey, but why did the damn thing have to be so high up?
"I need a stool," you muttered.
You found a small step ladder, and dragged it over to the rack.
Despite being on the final step, you still had to stretch to reach the Bey.
Managing to pull it off the hook, you put the Bey packet in your pocket and stepped down.
Valt took the proffered Bey and gazed at it. You fancied you could see stars reflecting in his eyes.
"What's its name bro?"
"Val-trey-k," he carefully sounded out. "Valtryek!"
"Nice," you whistled in appreciation at the brightly coloured blue Bey with yellow and red secondary colours.
"What about you Shu?"
The white haired boy in question was staring, mesmerized at a crimon coloured Beyblade.
You crouched down beside him and inspected the Bey.
"Is that the one you want?"
Slowly, Shu shook his head.
"It's $45 (Y/N). I don't want you to spend that much on me."
You placed a hand on the young boy's shoulder and looked at him seriously.
"This is my money, I'll spend it on what I want to. And I want to buy you and Valt a Bey. If this is the one you want, then I'm getting it for you."
Shu nodded his understanding.
"Is this the one you want?"
"Yes, please."
Okay, so this is a little more bonding time with Shu. I know it's a little slow going at the moment, but this is all pretty important.
Furthermore, one year olds can't generally eat loaves of bread. I get that Toko and Nika may seem a little underdeveloped, but the internet and I are doing the best that we can.😅
One last thing, let me know if or when you spot any typos, this edit was a little rushed so I'm sure there are some. I want this to be as good as I can possibly make it, so help editing would be really helpful.😊
