Chapter Four

" FORESHADOWED BY SIN "

THE SIGHT BEFORE Cato stirred the gallant loathe he held for the monster who captured his darkened angel in a thickened hold, his hatred sowed to his body like a cruel second skin. The frosted tint of his lightly painted eyes darkened with a brazen display of brewing anger, for the moment stifled a delicate beat of his pounding heart.

"I will be back, Augustina," Dorian whispered under his shaken breath, his grip on her wrists faltering as a gaze of a billion fires burnt into his skin. The owner of such flames resided beside the raven-haired beauty, his lips pursed into a thin line of unreadable emotions. Cato couldn't display his admiration for the woman beside him, couldn't fend off the hand of his half-brother.

Cato himself was as useless as the dirt beneath his shoes, his birth amongst the Royal family proclaimed a plague of a sinners desire. He was the illegitimate son, birthed from a woman who held the heart of a shattering thunderstorm.

Dorian peered upon Cato, a withering look of certain disgust raveling against the man's darkly seductive features. "Take her," Dorian practically spat, his free hand rising to cup Augustina's softened cheek. "She will be mine before the week is over," Dorian added, a daunting rumble of laughter spilling from his parted lips, the sound carrying the undertone of sexual contentment.

Dorian's thumb deliberately grazed along the serrated cheekbone of the woman before him, the movement built to fluster rather than intimidate. "Father is waiting, Dorian." Cato injected, watching as Augustine stiffened beneath the caress of the Prince, her teeth catching her tongue in an effort to contain the various curses that threatened to overtake her unmoving lips.

Dorian snapped his wavering attention from the beauty he possessed in the palm of his hand, his silver-colored hair falling disheveled against his brown tinted eyebrows. "Thank you, Cato." Dorian murmured with a false sincerity, his voice awoken with a husky growl of predatory amusement.

Dorian reluctantly pulled himself from a silenced Augustine, his hand falling from her cheek to dangle helplessly along his side. "Go to hell," Augustine snapped, the feverish temper of the woman building against the barrier of her wavering emotions. Cato tensed beneath her malevolent words, his gaze lingering upon Dorian in a look of silenced worry.

Augustine held the burning temper of a million men, her words carried with the bold hunger of an angered dragon. Dorian's jaw began to work in a mixture of emotions, the movement of the muscles appealing beneath the light of the throne room. "I am working on it, sweetheart." Dorian simply dismissed her comment, stepping around her enraged figure.

Dorian himself carried the shadows of the distant underworld, his mesmerizing features sculpted by the hands of the devil himself. Stalking toward the door, the heir of darkness found himself certainly entertained by the spitfire of a woman.

Once Dorian had dissolved behind the massive doors of the throne room, Cato turned toward Augustine with a look of deepened sorrow for the lack of words he carried into the conversation. "Did he hurt you?" Cato asked in a brisk manner, his hands raising to cup the cheeks of the braved woman who stood beside him.

"No," Augustine whispered, silently angered by the man who held her cheeks in the lightest of touches. "I don't understand why you fear him, he is merely a man." Augustine seethed through her teeth, her dark eyebrows descending into a look of confusion. Dorian was mortal, a man who bled the same as Cato. He was nothing special, for the man died just like the rest.

"He is a man who could slit my throat without remorse," Cato whispered softly, ignoring the anger that flared in the grey of her eyes. "He doesn't view me as a half-brother, but a pest," Cato added, his forehead placing itself against the forehead of the angel he held between his palms. Cato's words remained calmed, despite the force that laid behind the tone of the sentence.

Augustine didn't fear Dorian, for the man hadn't given her a reason to stumble over her feet in terror. He simply flaunted his crown, his words made to anger the vixen. Though the lingering manners of his words and actions sent shivers down her spine, her tongue becoming dry with the aspect of his words.

Would the man truly seek her out throughout the week? Defy his father and touch the most valuable prize of his war efforts? Would Dorian dare commit the crime, Cato had already signed? The thoughts alone made her squeeze her eyes shut, her skin crawling with the unknown answers.

Cato was the calm one of the two, balancing her chaos with the tranquility of his persona. Yet, the words that Dorian spoke singed his heart, breaking every nerve in his masculine figure. Dorian wouldn't take her from his grasp, he wouldn't ravel in the beauty of her body. He wouldn't. "I won't lose you to him, Augustine, I won't."

Augustine's rage dimmed beneath his words, her nose brushing against his in the faintest of affections. "You'll never lose me," She muttered, her warmed breath escaping her lips to fan across his skin in a sigh of tipsy comfort. "Not to him, not to the world." She added, her slender lips curling into a smile of solace.

"You don't know that, and neither do I." The bastard whispered sternly, his head reluctantly pulling away from her own. The words held a fashioned anger, his eyes growing dark with the thought of losing her completely. The thought sent an agonizing bolt across his heart, causing a thump of sadness to rush through him.

Augustine couldn't help but roll her silver hued eyes, in an obvious movement of annoyance. "I do know that, want to know why?" She snapped rather harshly, her chained hands raising between them lightly pushing his chest. "Why? Why do you hold so much faith in your words?" He snapped back, holding her chained hands against his chest.

"Because I can't live without you."
