CHAPTER THIRTEEN
The hunters are now back at Missouri's house with her. It's the same day that the teenager was talking to Jenny about her chaotic life, and now she and Sam are just watching as Dean and Missouri are putting little bags together.
"So, what is all this stuff anyway?" The older boy asks the psychic.
"Angelica root, van van oil, crossroad dirt, a few other odds and ends." She tells him.
"What are we supposed to do with it?"
"We're gonna put them inside the walls in the north, south, east, and west corners on each floor of the house."
"Punching holes in the drywall. Jenny's gonna love that." He says sarcastically.
"She'll live."
"And this will destroy the spirits?" Nyx asks.
"It should." Missouri nods. "It should purify the house completely. We'll each take a floor, but work fast. Once the spirits realize what we're up to, things are gonna get bad."
They head back to Jenny's that night, and she takes her kids to go and see a movie while the hunters and Missouri get to work. The psychic told them that there's a poltergeist in the house, and one other spirit that's harder for her to get a read on. Now, they're trying to get rid of both entities so that Jenny and her kids can live in peace.
Nyx is in the kitchen, trying to find a spot to put her last bag. She starts trying to make a hole in the wall, and then she hears a noise behind her. She quickly turns around and sees a knife hovering in the air across the room, and it's about level with her face.
She ducks as it suddenly flies at her, and then it gets embedded in the cupboard behind where her head had just been. She quickly knocks the table over so that it's acting as a shield. A few knives go through the table, and she sighs in relief because she didn't get hit.
She gets up and quickly finishes the hole that she was trying to make. Then she puts the bag inside and turns around. Nothing looks like it's going to try and kill her again.
"Sam!" Dean yells from the living room, and she runs to see what's going on.
Sam's on the floor and he's holding something that's on his neck. It's a cord to a table lamp, and it's wrapped around his throat.
"Where's the bag?" Nyx asks, and Dean tosses it to her.
She quickly uses the axe that Dean dropped when he ran in, and she makes a hole in the wall as quickly as she can. The boys are struggling behind her, trying to help Sam breathe. She gets the hole big enough and puts the bag inside.
There's a bright flash of light and a strange gust of wind around them. Nyx looks at the boys once it's gone, and Dean has Sam propped up. He's getting the cord off of his brother. She sighs in relief when she sees that Sam's breathing.
Everyone ends up back on the first floor, and they go into the kitchen. "What the hell happened here?" Dean questions when he sees the table with the knives.
"Oh, you know? A poltergeist tried to kill me." Nyx tells him as she walks over to him. He sighs as she leans against his side. She's exhausted, it's been a long day.
"Are you sure this is over?" Sam asks.
"I'm sure." Missouri tells him. "Why? Why do you ask?"
"No, nevermind." He shakes his head as he looks around. "It's nothing, I guess."
"Hello?" Jenny calls from the other room, and the lights turn on. "We're home." She stops when she sees the mess. "What happened?"
"Hi. Sorry. We'll— We'll pay for all of this." Sam tells her.
"Don't you worry. Dean's gonna clean up this mess." Missouri says, and Nyx stifles a laugh at the expression on his face. She turns to face them. "Well, what are you waiting for, boy? Get the mop. And don't cuss at me."
"Come on." Nyx says as she stands up straight. "I'll help you." She tells him.
After they clean things up and take Missouri home, Sam insists on going back to the house to make sure that Jenny and the kids will be okay tonight.
"So, tell us again. What are we still doing here?" Dean questions. They're in the Impala outside of Jenny's house.
"I don't know. I— I just— I still have a bad feeling." Sam says.
"Why? Missouri did her whole Zelda Rubenstein thing. The house should be clean. This should be over."
"Yeah, probably, but I just want to make sure. That's all."
"The problem is, I could be sleeping in a bed right now." Dean says as he lays his head back.
"Tell me about it." Nyx mumbles, she's laying down in the backseat.
"Dean. Nycole." Sam gets their attention as he starts getting out of the car.
They both quickly sit up and look at the house. Jenny's in the window in her upstairs bedroom and she's screaming. They both get out and start running to the house right behind Sam.
"Grab the kids, I'll get Jenny." Dean says.
"I got Richie." Nyx tells Sam as they make it through the door.
They all bolt up the stairs and head for different bedrooms. Nyx quickly bursts into Richie's room, and he jumps up in his crib.
"Coley." He smiles when he sees her, and she runs over to him.
"Come on, buddy." She says, and he holds his hands out to her. She quickly scoops him up and starts running back toward the stairs.
"Nycole!" Sam calls after her as they get to the door, and she turns around to look for him. "Get them out. Go!" He sets Sari down and then something seems to pull him into the house. He's dragged across the floor, and Sari screams.
"Sam!" Nyx yells, and then kneels down beside Sari. "Take Richie and find your mom. She's outside. Go." She tells her, and the little girl takes her brother and runs. As soon as they're out the front door, it slams shut behind them.
Nyx turns around and runs to try and find Sam. She makes it to the kitchen and then an invisible force pushes her back, throwing her against a nearby wall. She's in the same position as Sam a few feet away from him, and neither of them can move.
"Sam! Nycole!" Dean yells as he tries to break down the front door.
Nyx's eyes widen when she sees a fiery figure walking toward her and Sam. "What the hell?" She mutters as it gets closer.
"Sam! Nycole!" He walks into the room and aims a gun at the figure.
"No, don't! Don't!" Sam frantically stops him.
"What? Why?" His brother questions.
"Because I know who it is. I can see her now." He says.
The flames suddenly disappear, and a woman is left standing there. It's the blonde woman from the picture in their dad's journal.
Dean lowers the gun. "Mom."
"Dean." She smiles at him and then walks over to her younger son. "Sam."
He smiles.
"I'm sorry." She says.
"F-For what?" He asks, confused.
Mary looks at Nycole. "Take care of my boys." She says, and Nyx just nods.
She turns around and walks away from them. "You get out of my house. Let go of my son." Mary says, looking up at the ceiling as the flames from before roar up again.
Fire shoots up at the ceiling and then disappears. Sam and Nyx can move again, and the boys' mother is gone.
"Mom?" Dean says as they look around.
"Now it's over." Sam says, and they all look around at each other.
—
They're all outside Jenny's house, and it's early the next morning now. Her family's going to be okay because the poltergeist is definitely gone now. But so is Mary. Nyx walks over to Dean and Jenny, and the blonde smiles at them before walking back over to her house.
"I told you we'd get through this." Nyx says, and Dean looks down at her. "I'm just sorry that you didn't get to talk to your mom."
"I'll be alright." He says, and she smiles.
"I know." She nods, and he smiles as he looks down at her.
"Thank you. For being here, and for helping us through this."
"There's nowhere else I'd rather be than right here." She tells him.
He looks around. "You know, there's no graves anywhere near here." He says, and her eyebrows furrow as she looks at him.
"What—"
He suddenly leans down, closing the distance between them, and he presses his lips against hers. It takes her by surprise, but she kisses him back. His hands are on her hips and he pulls her body closer to his as she rests her own hands on his arms. He deepens the kiss, and she wraps her arms around his neck.
Nyx pulls back after a few seconds, and he rests his forehead against hers. "And what made you decide to do that now?"
"Because you are the best damn thing that has ever happened to me." He tells her, and she smiles as she pulls back so she can look up at him.
"Nycole." Missouri calls her name, and they both look over at her. "I hate to ruin the beautiful moment, but could I talk to you for a minute please?"
"Of course." Nyx nods as she pulls away from Dean, then she walks over to her. "Is everything alright?"
Sam's waiting at the Impala with Dean now, and Jenny already went back into the house with her kids. Missouri and Nyx are standing by themselves.
"You need to be careful, Nycole." Missouri says, and her eyebrows furrow as she looks at her.
"I don't understand."
"I sense a darkness around you. It's something that I've never felt before."
"What do you mean?" Nyx questions.
"You are the key to unleashing an evil on this Earth. Darkness runs in your blood, Nycole. Be careful, and be ready."
"Evil? What— What kind of evil?"
"I don't know exactly." She shakes her head as she looks at her. "All I know for certain is it's something far worse than anything you three have faced yet. And the death that has plagued your life already... It's only just the beginning." Nyx feels her heart drop as she realizes what she must be talking about.
"Klaus." She mutters as the older woman walks away from her.
