Sixteen

"You chosen Katara?" The general asked as Zuko nodded. The old man was surprised that he was able to narrow it down to one, "As much as I will love to end the selection entirely," He began as he got out and looked directly at his nephew, "Zuko I believe that it's time you know," He stated.

The prince raised an eyebrow confused, "I created the selection to overthrow my brother, you and the future FireLady were meant to set in motion the attack on the day of the Eclipse," He continued as the prince remained silent.

He knew his uncle wasn't a fan of the FireLord, but Zuko did not know that he was willing to overthrow his brother, "Your father has other plans; Mai is the one who was meant to win according to Ozai," He stated firmly.

"Wait, uncle I'm confused," The prince said while the general continued.

"I am risking my life telling you this information, but I think it's time, when we head back to the palace I recommend you go into your mother's room and remove the painting that is hanged across her desk. There you will find everything about this family, and what side you truly belong too," The general announced as he looked at his nephew. His face was full of confusion, "I know you are conflicted on who to believe but Suki was able to somewhat convince you,"

"You knew," He muttered under his breath as the old man nodded. He knew about the countless nights that Suki would be lurking around the palace. He knew about his doubts of overthrowing the FireLord. He knew about everything that Zuko could think of.

"And, as for Katara, you can end this selection the second we return to the palace, but tomorrow night we are sending Marri and Jin home," He ordered before he was ready to leave the room.

Before he left, "You can tell Katara if you want," He winked before exiting the room with a smirk on his face.

The prince looked at the door and then the window, and that's when he grabbed his mask and changed into his alter ego. If he recalled correctly, today was individual training of the girls, and he managed to peek at the time Katara would be occupied. She should be done in a few minutes, and be sent to her room.

Yeah, he should be thinking about everything his uncle told him, but for most of it, he was able to puzzle it himself: especially with Mai. But, what stayed under his skin was the thing that is behind a painting of his mother.

He climbed through the window and held onto the grip of the window as he leap forward and entered the room. He slid his mask on to the top of his head, "Katara?" He asked as he heard a voice coming from the bathroom. He was excited to tell her the news that will sure make her happy.

"Who's there?" Katara states as she stopped practicing her waterbending. She leaned out as she spotted the prince, "Zuko?" She questioned as he sent her a smile.

"Hey Kat," He greeted as she walked towards the handsome prince, "I wanted to see you, and tell you a few things," He explained as she lifted an eyebrow.

"I thought you weren't allowed to see any of us?" She asked confused as she took a seat on her bench.

He looked at her, the beautiful maiden with blue eyes and caramel skin, "I talked to my uncle," He began ignoring her question completely, "and your brother, and I came to the conclusion. I mean, I always had a hunch but they push away my doubts," He explained.

Katara rubbed her elbow as she feared what could happen, "What is it?"

He cleared his throat, "Kat, I want you," He stated as she was surprised by his outburst, "I want you to be my future wife," He made it clear looking at her blue eyes. His arm reached out to grab hers.

She was conflicted on what to do, "What about the selection?" She asked as he shook his head.

"I'll have to keep pretending til we return to the palace, once we are there it will be over," He explained as a smile grew on Katara's lips. The boy that she grew to care about feels the same way.

He wrapped her around his arms, "Kat," He mumbled under his breath as he looked down at the girl. Her eyes looked up as she looked into his golden eyes, such a beautiful color that sent her a warm feeling.

Their lips were a few centimeters apart, and he glanced at hers as he leaned in closer. The prince has been waiting to give her a kiss, a kiss that will make him feel a rush of happiness. He knew this because he recalled the moment they made contact. And, it's something he always had in his mind.

Meanwhile, Katara was nervous. She never kissed anyone before, and it seems that the prince will be her first. She felt butterflies in her stomach as she leaned in too.

"Katara?" The door prompted open as Zuko pulled away and Katara turned around to face the voice.

"Oh I'm sorry, was I interrupting something?" Zhilan asked as she saw the prince looking away as if he was embarrassed. Katara, on the other hand, was flushed with a bright red color.

Zuko shook his head as the women knew that she did, "I just came to bring your food," She motioned at the tray that she had been carrying this whole time, "If I had known Zuko was going to be here, I would of brought more food," She explained looking over at the young prince who approached her.

He took the tray from her hands and placed them on the small wooden table that Katara had in her room, "It's okay, I don't mind sharing," Katara exclaimed before she saw Zhilan shake her head. She excused herself as she will return with a second tray.

The moment she stepped outside the room— a smile grew on her lips. She truly believed that those two will make each other happy; reminds her of the same love Ursa had with that guy from her village.

"So, where were we?" Zuko raised an eyebrow as he grabbed Katara's hand and held it.

Katara rolled her eyes as she pushed him softly, "We could of been caught," She explained while Zuko chuckled.

Zuko took a seat on the couch as Katara sat down next to him, "Here," She handed him a piece of bread as he took it.

"Kat, I need to tell you another thing," Zuko began as he played with his bread. He was nervous: What if she didn't want to overthrow the FireLord and risk her life...

Katara stood up, "Before you do, I want to give you something," She explained as she headed towards her bed and knelt down. The prince watched as she took out a wooden box.

Katara had been around town with Suki earlier that day. She ended up seeing a shop that sold knives. Suki informed her that the prince loved practicing his self-defense as she recalled his many times that he would bragged about his sword skills.

She found it interesting how a firebender learned how to fight with a sword. It seem very smart and useful. "Suki told me that you know how to sword fight," She began nervously as she took a seat next to him.

He looked at her curious and then eyed the wooden box. Without hesitation he removed the lid and saw a dagger. The dagger had a detailed hand with red flames, "How did you get this Katara?" The prince questioned.

The girl looked over at the prince, "I have money, you know," She rolled her eyes as he seem impressed.

"Still," He reasoned as he touched the blade, "You didn't have to waste money on me," He explained as he sat down the dagger and wrapped his arms around her.

His eyes looked into hers while she looked right back at him, "I know, I just thought you would of liked it," She exclaimed as he chuckled.

Both their hands were wrapped together, that amazing feeling of comfort and happiness kept them that way as he then told her that she should eat while he heads back into his own room.

He got up and adjusted his mask while she stood up and walked him towards the window, "Even if we aren't in the palace, you still will use the window," She giggled while he mentally rolled his eyes at her.

"I'll see ya later, Kat," He stated as he leaped off the window and she closed it making sure it wasn't obvious. She took a seat on the edge of her bed and sighed.

"I'm in-love with him, and I can't tell him who I really am," She whispered to herself as she opened her palm and waved her hand over the glass of water.
