Chapter 1 ~ How it began

~1~

''He walks alone... Again!'' Catha said to Fearghus. They walked behind Nealon, a quiet and friendless boy. ''And you don't?'' Fearghus answered to Catha with sarcasm. ''No! I have you!'' She kissed Fearghus - just as friends - on his cheek. ''AUCH! STOP!" The poor boy screamed. ''THAT HURTS!'' Catha stopped immediately and looked at him as he fell on the ground with his hand covering his cheek. ''What happened?! I didn't do anything! I swear!'' The seven other members of the company ran towards Fearghus and looked at a brandwound - which was still burning a hole in Fearghus' cheek. He cried and screamed as he rolled over the ground. ''LET IT STOP! PLEASE!'' Janela took his face in her hands to stop him rolling and kissed him on his cheek. Because Catha was in love with Fearghus, she screamed ''JANELA! He is mine! NO! Don't kiss him!'' and many other statements like these, but nothing worked.

The wound expanded to the rest of Fearghus' body, his handsome face first. He started to breath irregular and clutched at his throat. ''No! Fearghus! Don't die! Please!'' Janela wailed and she began to cry. Her tears were falling down on the screaming boy's face, the pain stopped as he calmed down and fell asleep.

''He...he...'' mumbled Catha furious.

''I saved him!'' Janela exclaimed. Tears of joy made their way down her cheeks.

The next day - when Fearghus awoke - he and Janela kissed the whole day. Catha was terribly jealous and she began to cry when she sat down next to the campfire. Fearghus had been her best friend for years, but now they were enemies. The campfire was their place-to-be when they wanted to picknick or just talk to each other about all sort of things. Catha walked into the wood to keep calm, but it didn't work and she hit a big tree with her fists. The Oak immediately burned to ash. Catha screamed and Kenneth - an extremely handsome, young man - came running towards her and asked her what was wrong, because the tree still stood there in whole. ''I just...set this tree on fire by hitting it with my fists!''

''That can't be true! What a nonsense! I'll try it!'' Kenneth said laughing like it was a good joke, but when he only touched the tree, it burned to ash again. ''Wow!'' he exclaimed, but he was not very impressed.

''Isn't that amazing?'' Catha asked him a bit disappointed by his reaction. ''Yeah, but...I...you know...'' He mumbled. ''Is it over with Heatheryn?! No! You were so happy together!'' Kenneth looked down and sniffed. ''Yeah, I know... but...''

Hazel and Grainne appeared between the trees, hand in hand. 'Kenneth, Edana wants to speak you!' Grainne said sweet and the two lovebirds walked further, after Hazel looked at them very strange. ''Grainne!'' Catha screamed. ''Look behind you!'' On each place where Grainne had set her feet, grew a tuft of grain. With her eyes wide opened she turned around to look at it better. Not only in her footprints had grown the grain, but also in Hazel's. The two young adults froze and stared at their feet. ''No!'' Grainne exclaimed as she began crying. ''It can't be....!''

''Grainne, it can't be what?!''

"A special power!'' They all looked at her like they just heard a funny joke they had already heard once, because we all knew Grainne was pretty superstitious and it wasn't the first time she told them rubbish about special powers and the Four and that kind of stuff. The only difference was that they believed her this time, something was terribly wrong, but what?

''Could you pass me the salt, please?'' Faerghus asked Nealon, but when the shy boy didn't move, he said again: ''Nealon?! Pass me the salt, please!!'' But again the boy didn't hear him and stared into the campfire. Faerghus shouted at him, but Nealon was too distracted by the flames. Suddenly he felt a stinging pain in his chest and he fell back with his hand covering the bleeding wound. When he sat straight up again he looked around the campfire. He was furious, but only inside his heart. He knew he couldn't beat the others, because he had discovered that he had no special powers like them. He bowed his head as a sign of apologize and he passed the salt to Faerghus. Everyone looked at the two young men, but not one word was said until they woke up next morning.

The whole group was in panic, because Nealon was missing. They decided to wait until the next moon, so they all sat down and waited in silence. When it became hot in the sun they moved to the shadow of a tree nearby.

A few hours past and nothing happened, until they suddenly heard a strange sound. It was like something was burning. Kenneth and Catha stood up and walked towards the lake at the edge of the forest, in front of the group tired, bored girls and boys.

"Kenneth! Watch out!" Catha yelled at her innocent friend as she saw a burning part of the big tree above them falling down. She ran towards him and pushed him away, but with that she caused her own doom... The burning branch set her beautiful black dress on fire and she fell down by the heavy weight of the big piece of wood. But Kenneth didn't move, he was shocked by the view of his best friend burning to ash. She was doomed to die, it was her fate, she realized that at the last moments of her life. Fate, that's where they're living for, that's why they got their magic... Fate and future...

The others awoke by Catha's screaming and Fearghus was the first to react on the sight of his ex-girlfriend dying. He ran towards her and tried to extinguish the fire with his Waterpowers, but his powers didn't work. "MY POWERS!" He yelled at the others. "MY POWERS AREN'T WORKING!!! PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP HER!!!" The other two with Waterpowers also ran to their burning friend, but their water evaporated, the fire was too strong.

"You can only save her if you bind your Waterpowers." A familiar voice told them. They all turned around and saw... "Nealon!" Heatheryn exclaimed as she ran to him to hug him. "You're-" FLASH! A jet of water hit the poor girl. "How-" Faerghus began, but Nealon interrupted him. "Yes, Faerghus, this is your Waterpower. How I got it, you asked? Well, you will see it soon!" The boy said as he secretly touched a medaillon in the pocket of his trousers. Faerghus gave him an angry look.

"You know what I did, Faerghus, but you can't punish me. Yes, my old friends," he said sly and with an evilly grin on his face. "I killed her, I killed Catha. It was just a matter of burning a tree, not so difficult, is it?"

Kenneth knelt down beside Catha as he saw her gasping. "Catha!" he yelled at her. "No, Kenneth, you can't save her! You're missing one of the three Waterpowers!" Nealon told him calmly. "Well... There's one way we can save her, it is easy! Just give me your Waterpowers and I can save her!"

The two remaining Waterpeople exchanged a doubtful look, but decided not to do it. "Never!" Janela yelled. "Well, I asked you to give your Powers voluntarily, then I could have done you a favor; saving Catha. But unfortunately you won't give it so I'll come and get it then." The seven people who were still standing looked at each other and attacked Nealon using their Powers, but with horrible consequences. The boy opened a medaillon above his head and yelled: "RAPEO!" All the Powers weren't hitting him, but were sucked into the medaillon. One by one the seven youth fell unconciously on the ground. Now only Kenneth and Nealon were still concious and they gave each other an unreliable look. "Can I save her by giving a part of my Powers away?" Kenneth asked Nealon. "No, she's already dead." He answered. "Then help me bury her, please! I beg you!''

"O yes, I will definetely bury her! After I have taken your Powers!" Kenneth looked with fear in his eyes at the medaillon and the next thing what happened was everything turning black.
