06. Plan B

Jeremy knocked on the Salvatore's front door, "I need to talk to you" he told Damon, who opened the door.

"And when I need to talk to you--", Damon tried to shut the door on Jeremy's face but he quickly stopped him.

"Tyler Lockwood has to kill someone to activate his curse, he's not a werewolf yet" Jeremy informed.

"Already knew that" Damon said.

Once again Damon tried to close the door, but once again Jeremy stopped, "But Lily Forbes and Mason Lockwood are, while Lily is here for family, Mason is looking for a moonstone, a special rock connected to the werewolf legend, that's why he's here".

"A moonstone?" Damon asked, finally interested in what Jeremy had to say.

"And I know where it is" Jeremy added.

"And you're bringing me this, why?" Damon asked confused.

"Do I need a reason?" Jeremy retorted, "Look, I just wanna help, okay?".

"What'd your sister say about this little discovery?" Damon asked, when Jeremy stayed silent, Damon had gotten his answer, "Oh, you haven't told her, have you?".

"Elena doesn't want me getting involved in all this" Jeremy defended.

"And you're a Gilbert, you just can't help yourself" Damon concluded, Jeremy gave him a small nod, "Wow, your search for life's purpose is as obvious as it is tragic".

"Are you gonna let me in or not?" Jeremy asked.

"I will, but answer my one question" Damon replied, "How are sure Lily Forbes is here for family and not an ulterior motive?".

"I'm not sure" Jeremy admitted, "But the way Lily was speaking, it was obvious she had no idea that Mason wanted the moonstone, she was as confused as Tyler and she doesn't trust Mason either".

"Hmm" Damon said, wondering if his suspicion about Lily being a danger was wrong.

"Are you sure Damon's gone?" Lily asked, as her and Caroline walked towards the Salvatore's basement.

"Lily, Stefan literally told you that after you texted him about twenty times, saying if you come face to face with Damon, you will claw his eyes out" Caroline reminded.

"I think I might be growing on Stefan" Lily suddenly said.

"And why do you say that?" Caroline asked, slightly amused.

"Because he just laughed at my threats and I send him so many memes everyday and he never gets annoyed, he sometimes even gets involved" Lily replied.

"Oh my god Lils, have you made a new friend?" Caroline teased.

"Gross" Lily said, she then looked at her sister who was giving her a knowing look, "Fine, maybe I have".

"I'm proud of you for making new friends other then Tyler" Caroline said, as the girls arrived outside the cellar there mom was being kept in.

Lily looked at her sister, "You ready?" she asked.

"As I'll ever be" Caroline replied.

Lily gave her sister a encouraging smile, she the opened the cellar today and both the Forbes sister entered the room their mother was being kept in, as soon as they entered, their eyes landed on the untouched food.

"You didn't eat much" Caroline said.

When their mother didn't say anything, or even look towards them, Lily decided to intervene, "So Stefan told me that the vervain is almost out of your system, he thinks if luck is on your side, tonight you will be sleeping in your own bed".

Once again Liz stayed quiet, frustrating Caroline, "Are you really just gonna pretend like we don't exist?" she asked.

Liz looked at her daughters, "Yes" she finally said, "So please go".

"Wait" a confused Lily said, "Why are you mad at me? What did I do?".

"You knew Lily" Liz snapped, "You knew what Caroline has become and you didn't say anything to me".

"Because I knew how you will react, mom" Lily snapped back, "It took you six months to accept me, I didn't want Caroline to go through the same pain I went through".

Caroline looked at Liz, "How could you do that to her, mom?" she asked, "How could you do this to me? You left Lily alone when she was struggling and now you're turning your back on me, it's not like I died or something".

Caroline and Lily turned to leave, but Liz stopped them, "Are you--? Are you really dead?" she asked Caroline.

Caroline looked at her sister, who gave her a encouraging nod, so she turned to her mother, "Yes and no" she finally said.

"How is it possible?" a teary eyed Liz asked.

Caroline and Lily sat infront of their mother and Caroline started to tell her story to her mother, who was finally willing to listen.

"So I mainly drink from blood bags" Caroline informed her mother, "It's not as good as the fresh stuff, but it beats the animal blood that Stefan's been trying to get me to drink".

"So you steal the blood from the hospital?" Liz asked.

"Damon does" Caroline clarified.

"Damon's a thief, who would have guessed that" Lily said sarcastically.

"I've been pilfering his supply" Caroline continued, trying not to laugh at her sister's comment.

"As long as you have blood, you don't need to kill?" Liz asked.

Lily sighed, "Mom, we are a vampire and werewolf, it's in our nature to kill" she admitted, "But saying that, we both know how to control ourselves, how to stop ourselves from becoming someone we won't recognise anymore".

Liz looked between her two daughter, "I don't want this for you two" she said.

"I know" Caroline said.

"Mom, I got this gene from my biological parents" Lily said, "And I know for you and others it might be a curse, but it's the only thing I have of them, you might not want this for me, but I think I needed this, I needed to activate my curse to find the real me, yeah the way I activated was shit, but afterwards things only got better, I found this new confidence in me that I wouldn't have ever found if I didn't trigger my curse, I like to think that this curse, is the last gift my biological parents left for me, and I'm sorry you're not happy with it, but I don't want to part from it".

Both Liz and Caroline looked at Lily with teary eyes, neither of them knew that Lily felt this way about the curse, that she used the curse as a way to be closer to her biological parents, who Liz had informed her were dead which she figured after reading the note she found by Lily when she was a baby.

This made both Liz and Caroline realise, that they can give Lily all the love in the world but they are never going to be able to fulfil the void in her heart that was left after her parents death.

After talking with her mother for a few more minutes, Lily left the boarding to go to the grill to grab her mother and herself food, unaware that after she left, Damon had brought in Mason and was currently torturing him in the living room.

"What do you want with the moonstone?" Damon asked Mason again, who was currently chained down to a chair.

"Screw you" Mason spat out.

Damon mimicked a buzzer sound, "Wrong answer" he stated.

"If he was gonna say anything, then he would've already" Jeremy snapped, stopping Damon from shoving more wolfsbane into Mason's mouth.

"Taking your eyes now" Damon threatened, ignoring Jeremy.

"The well" Mason finally revealed, "You can find it there".

"I know where it is" Damon said, "I wanna know what it does and why you want it".

"I'm getting it for Katherine" Mason informed.

"Why?" Damon asked curiously.

"She's gonna use it to life the curse" Mason replied.

"Of the moon?" Damon asked, "Now why would a vampire help a werewolf break a curse that keeps them from turning whenever they want?".

"So I wouldn't have to turn anymore" Mason snapped.

"Why?" Damon asked again.

"Because she loves me" Mason replied.

Damon suddenly started chuckling, "No, now I get it, you're just stupid" he said, "Katherine doesn't love you, she's using you, you moron".

"I'm done talking" Mason said, refusing to believe Damon's words.

"Yes, you are" Damon stated, he handed the left over wolfsbane to Jeremy, "It's time to take a walk, Jeremy".

"I'm staying" Jeremy stated.

"No, you should go" Damon ordered.

"I'm staying Damon, he's had enough" Jeremy said, not wanting Mason to die.

Mason turned to Jeremy, "Tell Lily to help Tyler" he pleaded, "Tell her not to let this happen to him and tell both of them that I'm sorry".

"Damon--".

Before Jeremy could complete his sentence, Damon speeded over to him and grabbed him by his throat and shoved him against a couch, "You wanted to be a part of this?" he asked, "Here it is, well here it is, kill or be killed, the guy's a werewolf, he'd kill me the first chance he got, so you suck it up or leave", Damon let go of Jeremy, who started coughing, and turned to Mason, "He wants me to kill him, anyway, don't you, Mason? It really is a curse, isn't it?".

Mason looked at Damon, "Not for all us" he admitted, "There are werewolves out there who embrace this, and those werewolves are the ones who are much more stronger then you vampires, I might be weak, but she is stronger then both of us combined".

"Lily" Damon realised, "You're talking about Lily, aren't you?".

"Yeah" Mason confirmed, "Once Lily finds out what you did to me, you're dead, Damon".

"I'll kill her before that" Damon snapped.

Mason chuckled, "You have no idea who she is, how will you know when even she doesn't know".

"What is so special about Lily Forbes that makes her so scary?" Damon asked curiously.

"She's a Luna, Damon" Mason revealed, "She is a leader of her own pack, and once she finds out who she really is, where she comes from, she will destroy all of you".

"Well, then I guess I'm going to have to make sure she never finds out then" Damon said, giving Mason a sarcastic smile.

Mason gave Damon a taunting smile, "Good luck with that" he said.

Damon turned to Jeremy, who was letting all the information about Lily sink in, "Jeremy, go".

After giving Mason one last glance, Jeremy walked out the living room, and Damon turned to Mason and without wasting even a second, ripped his heart out.

After grabbing herself and Liz some food, Lily came back to the cellar where she found out that Caroline had gone to help Stefan, Bonnie and Elena retrieve the moonstone which Mason had hidden after Tyler gave it to him, Lily was suddenly very suspicious as to how the group knew where the moonstone was, and to add to her worries she has been texting Mason non-stop but not once has he messaged her back.

"So I pulled Stefan out of this well and he's all vervained and just rotted but Bonnie wasn't mean to me once, and I just I really think it's progress, you know" Caroline told her mother, "I just--", Caroline stopped talking after seeing the look her mother was giving her, "What? I'm freaking you out, aren't I?".

"It's just that you've become this person, not just but also Lily--".

"Don't" Caroline interrupted as Lily looked up from her phone and looked at her mother, "I--don't, I--we were just starting to get along".

"These two strong and confident girls" Liz finished, making both her daughters look at her in shock, they weren't expecting that.

"Oh" Caroline whispered, "Thank you".

"You don't have to take my memories away" Liz assured Caroline, "I'll keep you secret, look, if you're worried about them, just say you compelled me, I won't tell, I'll never do anything to hurt you", Liz looked at Lily, "Either of you".

Caroline looked at Lily, wondering what you thought, Lily sighed, "This isn't my secret Care, it's yours, do what you feel is the best, and know what you choose, your sister has your back, always".

Caroline gave her sister a grateful smile, she then looked at her mother, who was looking at Lily with a proud expression on her face, "You know, we never talk like this" Caroline told Liz, "Ever, and today meant so much to me".

"Me too" Liz cried.

"Me three" Lily whispered, standing behind Caroline and placing a supporting hand on her shoulder, she figured out what she was going to do and knew it wasn't easy for her, she needed Lily's support and that's exactly what she's going to give her.

"I know" Caroline told her mom, with one hand grabbing Liz's hand with the other Lily's, "Me and Lily know we can trust you, but you're never going to trust them", the smile on Liz's face fell as Caroline started compelling her, "Me and Lily are going to take you home, you're going to forget that I'm a vampire".

"I'm gonna forget that you're a vampire" Liz repeated.

"You'll remember you got sick with the flu" Caroline continued, tears welling in her eyes, "You had a fever, chills and ickiness, but me and Lily made you soup and it was really salty, you watched as me and Lily bickered and dragged you into our arguments, you then got better, and then your selfish older daughter who loves you, no matter what went right back to ignoring you, and all is right in the world".

After Lily and Caroline took Liz home, Stefan entered the boarding house living and showed Damon the bar of moonstone.

"All this for that?" an unimpressed Damon asked.

"Yeap" Stefan replied, throwing the moonstone to Damon who easily caught it, he then looked towards Mason's dead body which Damon had no covered up, "I see you've exercised your usual restraint".

Damon shrugged, "Had to be done" he stated, grabbing Mason's wallet, keys and phone, he started typing out a message, "Carol, big opportunity in Florida, gonna be gone, for a long time, will send for my things once I get settled, much love, Mason".

"Let's get rid of the body" Stefan said, kneeling by Mason's body.

"Ooh, last number dialed" Damon said, checking Mason's call log, "I wonder who that could possibly be".

"No, no, no, don't provoke her" Stefan warned.

Damon ignored Stefan and went to dial Katherine but before he could, a voice message caught his attention.

"A voice message from you new bestie" Damon informed Stefan, clicking on the message, forgetting about Katherine but instead wanting to know what did Lily has to say to Mason.

"I have had it with you, Mason Lockwood!" Damon and Stefan heard Lily yell into her phone, "Where the hell are you? Do you know that the Salvatore's have the moonstone? Did you give it to them or did that bastard Damon steal it from you?", Damon's jaw clenched hearing Lily call him a bastard, "I need answers from you Mason, on top of that, when I was in New Jersey you called me saying you found something out about my biological parents, I didn't say anything till now cause I was waiting for you to say something first, but now I'm over the waiting game!", Lily sighed, "I just--I need to know who were they, what happened to them, please just tell me, I'm going to lose my mind otherwise, and please be okay, text me, call me, send me a pigeon, just let me know you're okay".

Hearing Lily's vulnerable voice while she was talking about wanting to know about her biological parents, made Stefan's heart hurt, when he first saw Mason's body, he didn't feel a whole ton of guilt knowing his brother eliminated a threat, but now he looked at Mason's body in guilt, knowing whatever Mason knew about Lily's parents was now gone with him, Lily would never know what Mason had found out and that made Stefan feel extremely guilty as he realised how important knowing about her biological parents is for Lily.
