01. The Return

Lily Forbes sat in her car and took deep breaths, she wasn't prepared to come home yet, but she knew she had to, for her mother. After leaving Mystic Falls two years ago, Lily had gone through a lot, she learned a lot about herself and what she was, she learned how to be fight, she learned how to be stronger, what she didn't learn was how to let go of the past, maybe that's why coming back to Mystic Falls was so hard for, because even two years later, Lily couldn't let go of the past, couldn't let go of the fact that she had the blood of an innocent person on her hands.

"Come on Lily, you can do this" Lily whispered to herself, "This is your home, she is your mom, and Caroline is your sister, your judgey and a bit mean sister, but nonetheless, she is your sister, you can face them", Lily closed her eyes and took another deep breath, when she opened her eyes again she felt much calmer, she placed her hand on the door handle, all ready to get out of the car, but before she could, her phone started ringing.

Mommy Sheriff calling. . .

"I know I promised I would be home two hours ago, but there was a lot of traffic" Lily said, answering her phone, "But don't worry, I'm finally home, I  just pulled up at the house, are you--".

"I'm at the hospital" Liz interrupted her daughter, tears spilling down her face.

"Hospital?" A worried Lily asked, "Why are you at the hospital mom, are you okay?".

"I'm okay" Liz assured, "But Caroline's not, she got into a really bad car accident Lily".

"Mom, stop crying" Lily said, "I'm on my way".

After hanging up on Liz, Lily quickly switched her car engine back on and drove as quickly and safely as she could to the hospital, praying nothing happens to her sister.

***

A worried Lily ran into Mystic Falls Hospital, frantically looking around for her mother but she found her no where, but she did end up seeing Matt Donovan, who according to her mother was now dating her sister, and Bonnie Bennett, her sister's best friend.

"Matt!" Lily yelled, gaining the attention of the duo, who were both shocked seeing the youngest Forbes after two years.

"Lily?" Matt asked, looking at Lily in awe, she had changed a lot since he had last seen her.

"Where's Caroline?" Lily asked, "Is she okay?".

Matt sighed and shook his head, "She's not good, Lily".

"What the hell happened?" Lily asked, "How did Caroline did get into a car accident?".

"We were driving and Tyler heard this noise and he got--".

"A noise?" Bonnie asked shocked, making Lily look at her in suspicion, wondering why she looked so shocked with this information.

"He got, like, this migraine or something, and he lost control of the car and I--I thought that Caroline was fine, and then--and then she wasn't, so".

"I have to find my mom" Lily whispered, tears welling in her eyes, "Do you know where my mom is?".

Matt nodded, "She's at the reception, filling out some forms".

Lily gave Matt a thankful nod and quickly ran to find her mother.

"Was that actually Lily Forbes?" Matt asked Bonnie, after Lily had left.

"Yeah, it was" Bonnie replied.

"She's changed so much since the last time I saw her" Matt said.

"Agreed" Bonnie said, looking in the direction Lily had run in confusion, for some reason something about the Forbes girl seemed really off to her.

***

"Liz" Damon Salvatore called out, walking over to an overwhelmed Liz, "I came as soon as I got the message, is she okay?".

"She's in surgery, it's--they're doing everything they can" Liz replied, trying her best not to burst out into tears, "I need your help Damon".

"Sure, anything Liz" Damon assured.

"Mayor Lockwood is dead" Liz informed, once her and Damon had walked into a corner to talk, "They thought he was a vampire, they put him in the basement".

"Mayor Lockwood was a vampire?" Damon asked, pretending to be oblivious.

"No, no, no, a mistake was made" Liz clarified, "They said he dropped like the others when John's device went off, but he couldn't have been a vampire, I've known the man my whole life, now Carol Lockwood is gonna want answers, and all I can think about right now is my daughters, Caroline is in surgery and Lily's coming home after two years".

"Wait, Lily?" Damon asked, having never heard that name before, "Whose Lily?".

Before Liz could reply, someone yelled out her name.

"Mom!".

Damon and Liz turned around to see a frantic Lily running towards her mother.

"Lily" Liz cried, pulling her youngest daughter into a tight hug, "My baby, you're back, you're back home".

"I'm back mom, I'm back home" Lily whispered, hugging her mom back tightly.

Liz broke the hug and took her daughter's presence in, "You are never leaving again, understood?".

"Never ever" Lily assured, wiping her mother's tears.

"Liz" Damon said, gaining the emotional mother and daughter's attention, "Won't you introduce me to this new member of your family?".

"Right" Liz whispered, "Damon, meet my youngest daughter Lily, she's been out of town for the past two years, Lily this is Damon Salvatore, a very good friend of mine".

Lily looked at Damon and though she didn't know who Damon Salvatore was, she knew what he was, it was a skill she had learnt to perfect when she was away, a skill that let her sniff out the vampires, and looking at the man infront of her, Lily immediately knew he was a vampire, and she had a feeling her mother had no clue about it.

"Nice to meet you" Damon said, forwarding her hand towards Lily.

Lily ignored Damon's hand and turned to her mother, "Where's Caroline?" she asked.

"She's in surgery" Liz informed, while Damon took his hand back and glared at Lily, immediately not liking her.

"I'm going to go wait for her in the waiting room then" Lily informed, Liz nodded in understanding, Lily then walked away without giving Damon Salvatore another glance.

"I'm sorry about her" Liz told Damon, having seen what Lily did, "Lily is very reserved, she doesn't talk to strangers, at all".

Damon gave Liz a mock smile, "Completely understandable" he lied.

Truth is, Damon Salvatore didn't trust Lily Forbes. First of all, she came out of no where, he didn't even know Liz had another daughter, let alone that she hadn't been in town for the past two years, second of all, there was something about Lily that just didn't let Damon trust her or her intentions, making Damon realise he had to keep an eye on the youngest Forbes, to make sure she wasn't a threat to him or anyone he cared about.

***

It was around midnight and Lily was still sitting in the waiting room. She had forced her mother and Matt to go home and promised to call both of them as soon as there was any news on Caroline, which till now was none.

Lily grabbed herself a coffee from the 24/7 open hospital canteen and was walking back to the waiting room, but she stopped in her track when she saw Damon Salvatore sneaking around in the hospital corridor, wanting to know what he was up to, Lily slowly and sneakily followed him. She frowned seeing him enter her sister's room, wanting to make sure he wasn't hurting her, Lily slowly opened the door, making sure to not make any noise that will alert the vampire, she peeked in the room and to her shock she saw Damon grab an empty injection, to take some of his blood and then injected his blood into Caroline's drip.

Seeing that, Lily slowly closed the door behind her and ran back to the waiting room, realising Damon wasn't a threat to her sister, instead he is the reason Caroline was going to come back to her and Liz because she knew what vampire blood had the ability to do, it had the ability to heal someone, which is exactly what Damon had done, he had healed Caroline, making a small amount of respect raise in Lily's heart for him, but she still couldn't let herself trust the vampire, especially since she knew how much vampires hated her kind.

***

After Matt had come to change shifts with her, Lily went home to shower and grab something to eat before coming back to the hospital, she walked into the hospital and saw Bonnie and Matt talking.

"You been here all night?" Bonnie asked Matt.

"No" Matt replied, "Lily's been here all night, I came in the morning and forced her to go home, she looked really tired".

"Well I'm not tired anymore" Lily said, announcing her presence to the duo, "How's Caroline?".

Matt gave Lily a small smile, "See for yourself" he said, leading both Bonnie and Lily towards Caroline's room.

Lily let Matt and Bonnie enter the room first while she stayed behind, she was scared to face her sister, she didn't know what to say to her, she didn't even know if Caroline wanted to see her face ever again.

"Jersey Shore is on" Lily heard her sister tell Bonnie.

"Come on Lily" Lily whispered to herself, "You have nothing to lose here".

After taking another deep breath, Lily slowly entered the room, as soon as Caroline's eyes landed eye, her eyes went wide open, not believing that her sister was infront of her after two years.

"Lils?" Caroline asked, wanting to know if she was dream or not.

"Hey, Care" Lily greeted, giving her sister a small wave.

"What are you doing here?" Caroline asked confused.

"Oh, mom told me about your accident so--".

"I mean Mystic Falls" Caroline interrupted, "Why are you back in Mystic Falls?".

Lily sighed, "Mom wanted me to come back".

Caroline scoffed, "Of course she did" she said, "Well, now that you're back, do me a favor and stay out of my life".

"Caroline" Bonnie warned.

"No Bonnie" Caroline snapped, "She doesn't get to come and go as she wishes, one minute she's here and the next I'm left wondering if I even have a sister".

"I had no choice Caroline!" Lily snapped, feeling the familiar anger slowly take over her.

"Everyone has a choice Lily" Caroline snapped back.

"You don't even know what happened to me!" Lily yelled, her fingernails digging into her palms.

"Guys" Matt warned.

"That's cause you never told me!" Caroline yelled back, "You shut me out Lily, like you shut everyone out, keep behaving like this and one day you will be left all alone, with no one but yourself to blame".

"Not one day Caroline, but today" Lily said, "I'm already alone, I've been alone for a very long time".

"Lily, wait" Matt called out, seeing the youngest Forbes storm out of the room, but she didn't stop, just rushed out the hospital room, needing to get out of the room before the rage took over and she exposed herself.

"Caroline, that was wrong of you" Bonnie scolded.

"Wrong of me?!" Caroline asked shocked, "She left me Bonnie, no calls, no texts, no letters, not even a pigeon, I have a right to be mad at her, but she has no right to act like it's my fault she's alone, she has no one but herself to blame for that".

Matt and Bonnie looked at other and both shook their head, this wasn't new, when worst comes to worst both Caroline and Lily would fight the world for each other, but they will never show the other how much they care, they shared a very complicated relationship and if you didn't know them, you'd think they hated each other, but truth was they loved each other immensely, they just didn't know how to show it.

***

"Mom, please don't make me do this" Lily pleaded, as she and Liz walked up the Lockwood's driveway.

"Lily, Tyler is your best friend and he just lost his father, you need to be there for him" Liz said.

"Tyler hates me" Lily argued back.

"And who told you that?" Liz asked, "Tyler?".

"No" Lily whispered, "But if I was in his position I'd hate me mom, so how can I expect him to not hate me".

"Because you're my best friend Lily Bear".

Lily turned around and saw her former friends with benefits and forever best friend standing behind her, a small smile on his face.

"Ty" Lily whispered.

Tyler rushed towards the Forbes girl and pulled her into a tight hug, "I missed you" he whispered, hiding his face in Lily's neck, "I missed you so much Lily".

Lily wrapped her arms around Tyler and hugged him back tightly, while a smiling Liz walked towards Damon and Carol, giving the two best friends some privacy.

"I'm so sorry Tyler" Lily cried, "I'm so sorry for leaving, I--".

"Stop" Tyler said, breaking the hug and wiping Lily's tears, "You don't owe me any explanation".

Lily looked at Tyler in confusion, "You don't want to know why I left?".

"All I know is that you needed to get out of this town" Tyler replied, "Wether you want to admit it or not, this town was making you miserable and you needed to get out, I get it Lils, but promise me now, no more leaving, or if you feel like you want to run away from this town, you will take me with you".

Lily let out a teary chuckle, "I promise" she said, "I'm back now Tyler and I don't plan on leaving but if I do, this time I won't leave without a trace".

"Good" Tyler said, "Because you have no idea what happened in your absence".

"I think I might" Lily whispered, "Mom told me about Vicki, I wanted to come for her funeral but by the time I knew she was already buried".

"She loved you" Tyler informed, "In this town, you were the only person Vicki genuinely loved".

"She was there for me when no one was" Lily said, a sad smile on her face, "She was in my life even before you Ty and yeah maybe she fueled my bad habits but at the same time she was the only one who truly understood what it was like to be an outcast in this town".

"You're not an outcast Lily" Tyler said.

"Maybe not to you" Lily said, "But I am to everyone else".

"Well everyone else are idiots kiddo" someone else behind the duo said.

Lily and Tyler turned around and immediately huge smiles came on their faces seeing Mason Lockwood behind them.

"So the black sheep returns" Tyler teased.

"What happened to you?" Mason asked Tyler, confusing him, "In my mind, you're twelve years old".

"Well, that's two years older than the last time you saw me, Uncle Mason" Tyler replied, "But it's all forgiven since you took care of my trouble maker for him".

Lily looked at Tyler, shock evident on her face, "You knew?".

Tyler nodded, "Mason told me you were with him after realising how worried I was for you".

Mason had found Lily in New Jersey, she was so out of it, she had no home, no where to go, she had ran out of the money Liz had gave and still didn't know what happened to her, that's when Mason ran into her, literally and immediately he knew Lily had triggered her curse as he had done the same thing a few months before, he knew how hard it was for a newly turned werewolf which is why Mason took Lily in and taught her everything he knew about werewolves, taught her how to control her anger, how to stay out of trouble, but most of all how to accept her true nature.

"I never meant to make you worry" Lily whispered, feeling immense guilt.

Tyler put his arm around Lily's shoulders, "I always worry about, you Lily Forbes are a walking, talking trouble magnet".

"Am not" Lily defended.

"You are kiddo" Mason said, ruffling Lily's hair.

"Stop calling me kiddo" Lily complained.

"Never" Mason teased.

Lily looked between Tyler and Mason, she then bursted into laughter, these are the people she missed the most when she left, these were the people who always had her back and vice versa.

***

Damon stood the side and observed Lily, who was currently talking to Mason. He didn't like the fact that he knew nothing about the Forbes girl and to add to his trouble there was another new face in town.

"Who's that with your daughter?" Damon asked Liz, as she walked over to him.

"Mayor's younger brother, Mason Lockwood" Liz replied, looking at Lily and Mason with a smile on her face.

"Is he on the council?" Damon asked curiously, "Like John Gilbert was when he rolled in?",

"He's nothing like John, for one, he's not an ass" Liz replied, "He's not a believer either, he wants nothing to do with the council, he's too preoccupied finding the perfect wave and keeping Lily away from trouble".

"So what you're saying is that your daughter is trouble?" Damon asked.

"No, my daughter is misunderstood" Liz retorted, "She's gone through a lot Damon, and I'm so proud of her, everyday I look at her and I thank my lucky stars that I adopted her".

"Lily's adopted?" Damon asked, slightly shocked.

Liz nodded, "But that doesn't change the fact that she is my daughter, my biggest pride and I will always be thankful to Mason for looking after her when I couldn't".

"And why's that?" Damon asked, trying to pry information out of Liz, "Why did Lily leave town?".

"Personal reason" Liz lied.

"Right" Damon whispered.

Damon looked back to Lily, he knew there was something he was missing her, there was something Liz was hiding about her adopted daughter and Damon wanted to know what that something was, and he wasn't going to stop till the truth of Lily Forbes was out to him.

***

Tyler and Lily sat in the Lockwood's study together.

"Isn't this like a bad thing or something?" Lily asked, as Tyler drank alcohol from a flask.

"How so?" Tyler asked.

"I don't know, I just always thought drinking alcohol at someone's funeral is a bad thing" Lily replied.

"Well, lucky for me this isn't his funeral" Tyler said, he then forwarded the flask towards Lily, "Want some?".

Lily shook her head, "No thanks".

"Lily Forbes saying no to alcohol that's a first" Tyler teased.

"What can I say?" Lily said, "I'm a changed woman".

"That you definitely are" Tyler agreed, just as Jeremy entered the room.

"Oh hey, sorry I was just looking for the--".

"The bathroom's down the hall" Tyler interrupted, taking another sip of his drink.

"How much are you planning to drink today?" Lily asked concerned for her best friend.

"A lot" Tyler replied back, making Lily shake her head.

"So the rumors were true" Jeremy said, looking at Lily, "You really are back".

"Yeap" Lily said, giving the Gilbert boy a small smile.

"Permanently?" Jeremy asked curiously.

Lily shrugged, "I don't know".

"She doesn't plan of what's she going to do tomorrow and you're asking if she's planning to stay here her whole life?" Tyler asked.

"Hey!" Lily said, slapping Tyler's should, making him laugh in response.

"Hey, look, I'm sorry about your dad" Jeremy told Tyler.

Tyler looked at Jeremy, his playful mood immediately turned foul, "Today's been a big day of sorries from people who really don't give a crap".

"Ty" Lily warned, "Be nice".

"That was me being nice" Tyler defended.

"I remember when my dad died I had a house full of strangers telling me what a great guy he was" Jeremy remembered, "Anyways, I know how hard all this is".

"Difference is, in your case, it was true" Tyler said, "My dad was a dick".

"Yes he was" Lily said, making Tyler look at her, in turn she gave him a sheepish smile, "Sorry, I know I'm supposed to be nice but sometimes the mean girl in me can't help it".

Both Jeremy and Tyler chuckled hearing Lily, Tyler then turned to Jeremy and held out the flask, "Found this in his desk" he informed, "Lily won't join me so you might as well".

"Go on, I'll make sure you two stay out of trouble" Lily assured.

"He won't mind, he's dead" Tyler told Jeremy, seeing his hesitation.

"Yeah, you know what?" Jeremy said, taking the flask from Tyler's hand, "Sure, why not?".

Just as Jeremy took a sip, Mason walked into the study.

"Hey, what's going on in here, Tyler?" Mason asked, causing the three teenagers to exchange panicked looks among them.

"Nothing" Tyler quickly replied, "Nothing".

Mason looked at Jeremy, he then held his hand out, "You got somewhere else to be?" he asked.

Jeremy wanting to escape the situation, nodded and after giving Mason the flask quickly walked out of the room, both Tyler and Lily then watched in amusement as Mason took a swig out of the flask and then hand it back to Tyler.

"Like uncle, like nephew" Lily teased, making the two Lockwoods chuckle.

***

Tyler stood in the Lockwood's study, he walked over to his father's table and picked up a photo of their family, he then smashed the photo on to the table and shoved everything to the floor.

"Tyler!" A shocked Lily yelled, she had gone to use the bathroom, she didn't expect to come back to a distraught Tyler.

A furious Tyler, looked at Lily, "I hate him" he stated.

Lily took small steps towards the Lockwood boy, "Ty--".

"No!" Tyler yelled, stepping back from Lily, "Get away from me Lily!".

"Tyler, calm down" Lily said, taking another step towards her best friend.

"Lily, stay back" Tyler warned.

"You won't hurt me" Lily assured.

"All I want to do is hurt people!" Tyler yelled.

Lily shook her head, "Not me you won't" she said.

"Lily--".

"I know that because I've been in your place before Tyler, you might not believe me but I know the feeling of rage taking control over you, but I also know that no matter how angry you are, the last thing you would is hurt me, because that's the last thing I wanted to do when I got all angry like this" Lily said.

Tyler stared at Lily for a moment, then the next he stepped forward and pulled her into a tight hug, and Lily gladly hugged him back.

***

After Tyler had calmed down, Lily, Tyler and Mason, who Lily informed about what happened, sat infront of the fireplace in the study.

"I don't know why I get like this" Tyler admitted.

Mason and Lily exchanged a look, they both knew why Tyler got like this, it was because of the werewolf gene, but they both didn't know how and when to tell Tyler about this, not knowing how he will react after hearing that his best friend and uncle were werewolves and he had the potential of turning into one as well.

"It's the curse of being a Lockwood" Mason eventually said.

"So how'd you get the chill gene?" Tyler asked.

"I didn't, I've just learned how to manage it" Mason admitted.

Tyler looked at Lily, "And you?" he asked, "I remember you having similar episodes before but now you seem like a completely different person".

"Because I am a different person" Lily said, "Just like Mason, I also learnt how to get in control of my emotions, and soon so will you".

Tyler nodded in understanding, "I don't wanna be like this anymore".

"No one wants be like this Tyler" Lily said, "That's why it's called a curse".

While Lily was busy comforting Tyler, on the other side of the town, her sister was being murdered and being turned into a vampire.

***

Somewhere in a far away town, a certain Original was laying on his bed, his eyes closed, sleep slowly taking over, as soon as he fell asleep, he was suddenly pulled into a very weird dream.

"Klaus!" he heard a girl yell, "Klaus, where are you?!".

Klaus looked around at his surroundings in confusion, he was in a field full of flowers, someone was calling out to him but looking around he saw no one near him.

"Klaus!?".

"Whose there?" A very confused Klaus asked.

"Come on big bad wolf, find me".

"How do I find you?" Klaus asked, "I don't even know who you are".

The most beautiful giggle filled Klaus's ears, he swears he could hear that very giggle for the rest of his immortal life.

"You'll find me in the town you least expect to find me".

In reality, Klaus gasped and sat up in his bed, he was extremely confused with the dream he had, he had never had a dream like this before, he had never heard that voice before, but for some reason he wanted to find the person this voice belonged to, he wanted to know her, and it confused him because never in his thousand years of life had he ever wanted to chase after a voice.

"Who is she?" Klaus whispered, wondering if the girl in his dream was real or a figment of his imagination.

Presenting 2x01 of The Vampire Diaries . . .

AND IT IS FINALLY STARTING YOU GUYS, PROBABLY THE MOST EXCITED I'VE EVER BEEN FOR A BOOK, EEEEEKKKKKK!

How was the chapter?

Thoughts on our brand new OC Lily? Do we like her or do we hate her?

Thoughts on Damon and Lily's first meet and Damon already not trusting her?

Thoughts on Caroline being angry on Lily? These two are going to be so fun to write, they love each other but they just don't know how to show it, can't wait for their development!

Thoughts on Lily's bond with Tyler and Mason? Honestly when Klaus turns Tyler, be ready for some angst, that's the only reason I made them friends 😂.

Some things I need to clarify, number one is throughout season two, three and four of TVD, there will be episodes here and there that I miss because some episodes will be too hard to fit Lily in, but once we reach The Originals I will write every episode, and don't worry you will know which episode I missed in TVD and what Lily was doing while the others were busy protecting Elena.

Second thing, don't expect Lily to be like other werewolves, expect her to have around the same strength as Klaus because as I mentioned in the intro she is the daughter of an alpha and luna and she is destined to become the next luna of the crescent wolf pack so she has more strength then other werewolves, strength she's definitely going to use against the Salvatore's 😂🙈.
