14. Crying Wolf

"You sure you don't want to come with me to the Grill?" Caroline asked her sister, standing at Lily's doorway watching her run around trying to find her shoes, "Bonnie has a plan to get information out of Luka".

Lily laid on the floor and looked underneath her bed, "Whose Luka?" she asked, rummaging through all the shoes she stored under her bed.

"Do you not listen to anything I tell you?" Caroline asked.

"You told me about Luka?" Lily asked, her eyes landing on one of the shoes she's been looking for, "Yes!" she yelled, "Now where's the other one".

"Yes I told you about Luka, he's Dr. Jonas Martin's son, the witch whose working with Elijah" Caroline reminded, entering Lily's room and looking into her bathroom to find the other pair of the shoe, causing Caroline to shake her head, "How she manages to get shoes everywhere is beyond me" she whispered, grabbing the shoe, "I found the other pair!".

Lily lifted her head up and a huge smile came on her face seeing her shoe in Caroline's hand, "Thank god, where did you find it?".

"In the bathroom" Caroline informed, throwing Lily the shoe who easily caught it, "How did one pair of your shoe end up under your bed and the other in the bathroom".

Lily shrugged, "I have no idea" she replied honestly, sitting on the floor and putting her shoes on, "Now back to your question, I am not coming with you to the grill".

"Why not?" Caroline asked, "You're not still mad at me, are you?".

"A little" Lily admitted.

"Lily--".

"But that's not why I'm not coming to the grill" Lily quickly assured, "Mom wants me to be at that historical society tea party they are doing at the Lockwood's today".

"Why you?" Caroline asked confused, knowing her sister hated going to events like that.

"Because you refused and apparently mom needs at least one of her daughters to be at the event" Lily informed, standing up from the floor.

"Okay fair enough" Caroline said, "But please don't tell me you're wearing that to the event".

Lily looked down at her cropped top and ripped jeans with converses, "What's wrong with this?".

"This is not something you wear to a tea party" Caroline stated.

Lily narrowed her eyes at her sister, "I know where you're going with this, and I'm telling you now that I'm not wearing a freaking dress".

"Yes you are" Caroline said.

"I will run" Lily threatened.

"I have super speed" Caroline retorted.

"I don't have any dresses" Lily informed.

"Luckily for you, I have plenty" Caroline said, a smug smile on her face.

Lily groaned in annoyance, "I hate dresses".

"I know" Caroline simply said, grabbing her sister's hand and dragging her to her room.

"Have you spent much time in Richmond for your book?" Carol asked Elijah, as they stood in the Lockwood living room together, "There's such a wealth of history there".

"No, I'm focusing mostly on the smaller regions of Virginia" Elijah explained, "Lots of research, strictly academic".

"That's fascinating" Carol said, just as Lily walked over to her.

"Mrs. Lockwood" Lily greeted.

"Lily, I'm so glad you made it" Carol said, giving Lily a hug who stood there awkwardly, really not a hug person.

"Didn't have much of a choice" Lily mumbled, as Carol broke the hug, not hearing what Lily said, Lily then looked at Elijah, "Elijah".

"Lily" Elijah greeted, grabbing Lily's hand and kissing the back of it.

"You two know each other?" a confused Carol asked, breaking Lily and Elijah's brief staring contest.

"Yes, Lily has been a huge help in my research" Elijah lied.

"Lily Forbes helping someone, that's a first" Damon taunted, walking over to the group.

"Damon Salvatore not minding his own business, not a surprise" Lily taunted back, making Damon glare at her while Lily gave him a mock smile.

"Elijah, I want you to meet Damon Salvatore" Carol introduced, "His family is one of Mystic Fall' founding families".

"Mm-hm" Damon confirmed, turning to Elijah, "Such a pleasure to meet you".

"No, pleasure's mine" Elijah said, shaking Damon's hand, the tension between them evident.

After having enough of everyone, Lily decided to spend some time in the Lockwood's office, away from everyone. While she was looking through one of the bookshelves, the door to the Lockwood's office opened, turning around a small smile came on Lily's face once she realised it was Elijah.

"How can I help you, Elijah?" Lily asked.

"I heard that your sister was taken by some werewolves" Elijah said.

Lily nodded, "She was, but your witch buddy came and helped us".

"I promised I would keep you safe" Elijah reminded.

"And here I thought you were keeping my sister safe" Lily teased.

"My priority is always going to be your safety, Lily" Elijah stated.

"I know how to take care of myself Elijah" Lily said, "I've been doing that for a long".

"It's okay to let someone else take care of you once in a while" Elijah said.

Lily shook her head, "I don't like relying on other people, I don't trust people not to hurt me".

"Not everyone's out to hurt you" Elijah pointed out.

"I know that" Lily said, "But I can't help but be suspicious of everyone, it's just in my nature".

"You're suspicious of me?" Elijah asked.

"Oh yeah" Lily confirmed, "No offense Elijah, but I don't know you, this sudden interest in me, in my safety, makes me suspicious of you".

"What do I have to do to make you realise I only have pure intentions?" Elijah asked curiously.

"There's nothing you can do" Lily replied, "If you really have pure intentions, then eventually I'll realise it, and maybe I'll start trusting you".

Elijah nodded his head in understanding, "I guess then I'll just have to wait for the day when you realise I have nothing but good intentions in protecting you".

Lily looked at Elijah and gave him a small smile, grateful that he understood it wasn't easy for her to trust him, hell it wasn't easy for her to trust anyone.

After the Lockwood's historical party was over, Lily went home, where her sister was waiting for with some important information.

"Elijah wants Elena to die?" Lily asked shocked, sitting with Caroline in the living room.

Caroline nodded, "He plans to kill Klaus after the sacrifice, which means after Elena is dead".

Lily sighed, "Okay got it" she said, standing up.

"You seem too calm" Caroline observed.

Lily looked at Caroline, "You telling me this, is it because you want me not to trust Elijah?" she asked.

"Well, yeah" Caroline said, "He's planning to kill our friend".

"Your friend" Lily corrected, "And tell me something, did you forget the part in which Elijah has done nothing but help you guys, he offered Elena a deal to save everyone she cares about, he even sent his witch to help us save you".

"He did all that to gain our trust" Caroline argued, "So we will never suspect that he's not actually helping us".

"Maybe" Lily said, "But until I hear this from his mouth, I'm not trusting anyone, especially not a witch whose mind Bonnie was messing with".

"Seriously?" a frustrated Caroline asked, "You trust Elijah over Bonnie?'.

"No I trust my eyes, and so far Elijah has done nothing bad to me" Lily replied.

"Lily, he's going to kill Elena" Caroline snapped.

"Technically Klaus is" Lily retorted.

"You're unbelievable" Caroline stated, shaking her head at her sister.

"No I'm just not an idiot like you are your friends" Lily snapped back, "You guys need Elijah, he's the only one who knows Klaus, without him you have no chance of defeating Klaus, so for once in your life be smart Caroline, don't make an enemy out of the one guy who can take down Klaus".

Before Caroline could say anything else, the knock on their front door, stopped the sisters argument. Lily went over to the door and opened it, and to confusion no one was there, she looked down on the floor and that's when her eyes landed on an envelope addressed to her, picking it up, she took the letter out of envelope and started reading it.

I'm sorry,

I know you're going to be mad at me, I made you promise that if you leave town you will take me with you, but here I'm leaving town without you, but I knew if I asked you to come with me, you would have refused as you hate Jules.

Yeah, I'm leaving town with Jules, she knows how to help me get my werewolf side in control, please don't me mad at me Lily, but I can't stay here anymore, not with everything that's going on.

I couldn't face you and say goodbye it would have been too damn hard so this letter will have to do, but I promise to come back Lils then you can scold me all you want but right now I need to leave this town, and I know you out of all people would understand why.

So see you soon, your best friend,
                                    Tyler.

After reading the letter, an emotional Lily stepped out of her house and looked around, hoping to see her best friend anywhere, but he was no where to be seen, making her realise he was gone.

Lily looked down at the letter, Tyler was right, she did understand as to why he left town, this wasn't the town to stay in as a new werewolf, but that didn't mean she wasn't upset of losing her childhood best friend.
