05. The Reckoning

Stefan slowly opened his eyes and groaned in pain, his neck hurting from the many times Klaus had snapped it.

"Ah, he lives" Rebekah said.

Stefan sat up and saw Rebekah standing by the edge of the truck, while Lily sat on the floor, her eyes closed, her head against the truck's wall.

"What happened?" a confused Stefan asked.

"You took a beating" Rebekah informed, "My brother's been breaking your neck all afternoon, quite the temper".

"Why did he bring us back to Mystic Falls?" Stefan asked, looking at the Mystic Falls High School sign.

"Just stop, Stefan" Lily snapped, opening her eyes and glaring at her so called best friend, "For once stop pretending, stop lying".

"It didn't take him long to figure out what you've been hiding" Rebekah added, "From him and from your best friend, Lily".

A vary Stefan, slowly stood up, "I'm not hiding anything, I've done everything Klaus has asked me to".

"No, you just failed to mention that the doppelganger's still alive" Rebekah said, letting Stefan know that they all knew his secret.

Lily stood up and looked Stefan, "What did you think I was gonna do if you told me?" she asked, "Tell Klaus? Is that how much you trust me?".

"Can we talk about this later?" Stefan asked, right now his number one priority was saving Elena from Klaus.

A hurt Lily shook her head, "No Stefan, we're never talking about this again, if you don't care about me or my feelings, then I don't give a crap about you or your stupid girlfriend".

Before Stefan could stop her Lily had jumped off the truck and proceeded to go inside the high school to find Klaus, leaving Rebekah to deal with Stefan.

Lily barged into the school gym, only to see Klaus there with Elena and two compelled students.

"Lily" Elena whispered.

"Welcome, little luna" Klaus greeted, smiling at the Forbes werewolf.

Lily looked at the two compelled students, one of who had her one leg in the air.

"What, are we playing hopscotch now?" Lily asked Klaus.

"No, but if Dana is to put her leg down, Chad is going to beat her, to death" Klaus replied.

"Where's Stefan?" Elena asked Lily, before Lily could say anything to Klaus.

Lily glared at Elena, "Do I look like your boyfriend's babysitter?" she snapped, "Stefan is your problem, not mine, for all I care about he can go to freaking hell".

"Stefan's on a time-out" Klaus informed to Elena, he knew that Stefan's lack of trust in her, had hurt Lily a lot, because she was a girl who didn't trust people easily, yet she trusted Stefan, who never really trusted her, and that hurt.

The gym doors once again opened and this time Bonnie and Matt entered the room.

"Bonnie, get out of here!" Elena yelled, she was worried what Klaus was going to do to the witch responsible for her being alive.

Before Bonnie could leave, Klaus speeded over her to her, blocking her from walking out, "I was wondering when you'd show up, now we can get started", Klaus looked towards the two compelled students, "Uh, Dana, who don't you relax? You and Chad sit tight", Klaus turned to Bonnie again, "I assume you're the reason Elena's still walking around alive".

"That's right, if you wanna blame someone, blame me" Bonnie said, glaring at the hybrid infront of her.

"Oh, there's no need for blame love, your witchy interference seemed to have caused some undesirable side effects" Klaus informed, "And since you caused the problem, I'm gonna have you find the fix".

Rebekah entered the gym, with Tyler in her grip.

"Tyler" a worried Lily called, wanting to rush over to her best friend by before she could, Klaus grabbed her arm.

"Stay put, little luna" Klaus stated.

"Don't tell me what to do" Lily snapped, worried what Klaus was planning with her best friend.

"Get off of me" Tyler told Rebekah.

"Hush now" Rebekah said.

"I'd like you all to meet my sister" Klaus introduced, Lily still in his grip, "Rebekah, a word of warning, she can be quite mean".

"Don't be an ass" Rebekah scolded, pushing Tyler towards Klaus, who finally let go of Lily and grabbed Tyler.

"Leave him alone" Elena said.

"Don't hurt him Klaus, please" Lily pleaded.

"I'm gonna make this very simple!" Klaus yelled, ignoring Lily, he refused to look at her, knowing if he looked into those brown eyes, he will lose himself and do whatever the hell she wanted him to do, and right now, he couldn't afford to lose himself, he couldn't afford to show a weakness, "Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition, it's quite horrible, actually", Klaus bit into his wrist.

"Turn me!" Lily suddenly yelled, before Klaus could force his blood down Tyler's throat, "You need a werewolf, right? I'm a werewolf, use me Klaus but let Tyler go!".

"Sorry love, your life is precious, his on the other is worth risking" Klaus said, before forcing his blood down Tyler's throat.

"No!" Lily yelled, trying to rush over to her best friend but this time Rebekah grabbed her and stopped her from interfering.

"I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie" Klaus said, "And for Tyler's sake, you'd better hurry".

Elena, Matt, Bonnie and Lily gasped in shock as Klaus snapped Tyler's neck and he fell to the floor, dead.

As Dana and Chad sobbed in the background, Matt and Lily kneeled by Tyler's body.

"He killed him" a shocked Matt whispered.

"He's not dead, Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire" a panicked Elena informed, packing back and forth in worry.

"And if Bonnie's successful he'll live through his transition" Klaus said, jumping off the bleachers and making his way over to the group with Rebekah, "Go on then, go fetch your grimoires and enchantments and whatnot, I'll hold on to Elena for safekeeping".

Elena looked at Bonnie who shook her head, not wanting to leave her best friend alone with Klaus and Rebekah, but Elena gave Bonnie a small nod, telling her to go.

After a little bit of hesitation, Bonnie proceeded to rush out the gym with Matt, hoping to find a way to save Tyler before it was too late.

"So this is the latest doppelganger" Rebekah said into Elena's ear, making her let out a startled gasp, Rebekah looked Elena up and down, "The original one was much prettier".

"Enough, Rebekah" an amused Klaus said, "Take the wolf-boy elsewhere, would you?".

"Tyler" Lily snapped, glaring at Klaus, "His name is Tyler".

Klaus grabbed Lily's arm and pulled her away from Tyler, "I don't care" he stated, allowing Rebekah to drag Tyler out.

Lily shoved Klaus away from her, "If anything happens to him Klaus, you won't realise what is going to come your way".

"Why so much care for the wolf-boy?" Klaus asked, masking his jealousy with anger, "What is he, your lover?".

"He's my friend, Klaus!" Lily yelled, "Something you won't understand, because a guy who only thinks about his needs, his wants, he can never grasp the true value of a friendship! Because that will require for you to think about someone who isn't you, which is just not possible for you, is it?!".

Both Klaus and Lily stood in the middle of the gym, glaring at each other, both too stubborn to back down, their glaring competition was broken when the gym doors opened and Stefan entered.

"Stefan" Elena whispered, looking at the youngest Salvatore with a hopeful look on her face, hoping he would help them.

Stefan ignored the Gilbert doppelganger and looked towards the hybrid, "Klaus".

"Come to save your damsel, mate?" Klaus asked.

"I came to ask for your forgiveness and pledge my loyalty" Stefan clarified.

"Well, you broke that pledge once already" Klaus reminded.

"Elena means nothing to me anymore" Stefan stated, causing a hurt expression to come on Elena's face, "And whatever you ask of me, I will do".

"Fair enough" Klaus said, "Let's drink on it", Klaus pointed towards Dana and Chad, who were sitting on the gym floor, terrified, "Kill them", Dana and Chad stood up in shock, "What are you waiting for?" Klaus asked Stefan, who made no move forward, "Kill them".

"No, Stefan don't" Elena said, shaking her head, "He's not gonna hurt me, he already said--".

Lily let out a shocked gasp as Klaus back handed Elena causing her to yell in pain and fall to the floor, as Lily quickly ran to over to the doppelganger to help her, an enraged Stefan went to attack Klaus, who grabbed him by his throat.

"She means nothing to you?" a furious Stefan asked, as Lily helped Elena stand, "Your lies just keep piling up".

"Let her go, I'll do whatever you want, you have my word" Stefan promised, finding it hard to talk and breathe with Klaus's tight grip on his throat.

"You word doesn't mean much, I lived by your word all summer during which time I never had to resort to this" Klaus said, starting to compel Stefan, "Stop fighting".

"Don't do this, don't do this" Stefan pleaded.

"I didn't want to" Klaus said, "All I wanted was your allegiance, now I'm gonna have to take it".

"Don't, don't" Stefan cried.

"You will do exactly as I say, when I say it, you will not run" Klaus compelled, "You will not hide, you will simply just obey".

"No, Stefan" a shocked Elena whispered, looking at the man she loves with tears in her eyes, while Lily looked at Klaus, her eyes full of tears, wondering how for even a second she though he wasn't the bad guy.

"Now, kill them, Ripper" Klaus ordered, pointing towards Dana and Chad.

Lily and Elena watched in shock as veins appeared under Stefan's eyes and he speeded over to Dana and bit into her neck.

Klaus walked behind Lily and Elena, both the girls watching in shock the way Stefan ripped into Chad's throat.

"It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element" Klaus said, "The species has become such a broody lot".

"No, you did this to him" Elena snapped, as a guilty Stefan looked towards her.

"I invited him to the party love, he's the one dancing on the table" Klaus defended.

"Where is it?" a furious Rebekah asked, barging into the gym and walking over to Elena, "Where's my necklace?".

"What are you talking about?" a confused Klaus asked.

"She has my necklace, look" Rebekah informed, handing Klaus a phone, a phone Lily recognised to be her sister's.

"What the hell did you do to my sister?" Lily asked, glaring at Rebekah, but she ignored her as she was busy glaring at Elena.

Klaus looked at the photo of Stefan and Elena and saw Elena wearing a necklace he recognised all too well.

"Well, well, more lies" Klaus said, looking at Stefan.

"Where is it?" Rebekah once again asked Elena.

"I don't have it anymore" Elena informed.

"You're lying!" Rebekah yelled, before biting into Elena's neck.

Klaus quickly separated his sister from the doppelganger, "Knock it off!" he yelled.

"Make her tell me where it is, Nik!" Rebekah yelled.

Klaus kneeled infront of Elena, "Where's the necklace, sweetheart?" he asked, "Be honest".

"I'm telling the truth, Katherine stole it" Elena revealed.

"Katerina" Klaus said, an amused smile forming on his face, "Of course", Klaus stood up, "Well, that's unfortunate, if we had the necklace it'd make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way let's put a clock on it, shall we?", Klaus walked over to the buzzer that turned the gym timer on and pressed it, "Twenty minutes, if Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then I want you to feed again, only this time I want you to feed on Elena" Klaus told Stefan, "You know you want to".

"Don't do this" Lily pleaded, feeling really bad for both Stefan and Elena, "Don't turn him into this Klaus, please".

"No one leaves, if she tries to run, fracture her spine" Klaus told Stefan, pointing at Elena, he then walked over to Lily, "You little luna are coming with me, can't trust you not to interfere".

Klaus had dragged Lily to the chemistry lab where a worried Caroline was with a still dead Tyler, after ordering Rebekah to not let any of them leave, Klaus left the room to check on Stefan and Elena while both Caroline and Lily impatiently waited for the Lockwood werewolf to gain conscious.

After much waiting, Tyler gasped and opened his eyes and immediately started coughing.

"Hey" Caroline whispered, "Shh".

Lily looked between her sister and best friend, she knew Caroline always cared for Tyler, she cared for every one of her friends, but what confused Lily was that there was another emotion except care in Caroline's eyes for Tyler, something Lily couldn't put her finger on but she knew that after she left town something had definitely changed between her sister and best friend.

"Where am I?" a confused Tyler asked, "What happened?".

"Tyler" a worried Caroline started, not knowing how to hell Tyler that he was in a transition to be a hybrid, something all the werewolves before him had not survived.

"Don't be shy about it" Rebekah told a hesitant Caroline.

"What's going on?" Tyler asked, looking between Caroline and Lily, both of them who were looking at him with worried expressions on their faces.

"Klaus forced his blood down your throat and then he killed you" Lily informed, finally blurting it out, "You're in transition to be a vampire, a hybrid actually, half wolf, half vampire".

"Don't leave out the hard part, sweets" Rebekah said, making both Caroline and Lily glare at her, "You'll only survive if your witch is successful, if not, you're pretty much dead, right Lily?".

Lily ignored Rebekah and turned to a panicked Tyler, "Bonnie will figure it out, isn't she the one who always gets you guys out of the problems?" she asked, "I don't like her but I do know that if anyone's going to save you, it'll be her, you're gonna be just fine Tyler".

"I wonder how she's doing" Rebekah said, looking down at the timer she set on Caroline's phone, which indicated to her that both Stefan and Bonnie had two minutes left, she showed the timer to the trio, "Ticktock goes the gym clock".

"Well, the verdict's in, the Original Witch says the doppelganger should be dead" Klaus informed, entering the chemistry lab where Tyler's health had gotten worse.

"Does that mean we can kill her?" an eager Rebekah asked, walking over to her brother.

"No, I'm fairly certain it means the opposite" Klaus retorted.

"What?" a confused Rebekah asked, grabbing both Caroline and Lily and taking them away from Tyler.

"I am not a drag doll!" a furious Lily snapped, trying to get out of the original's grip but failing.

"Call it a hunch" Klaus told his sister, he then showed Tyler the vial in his hand, "Elena's blood, drink it".

"No, no, no, no, Tyler, don't" Caroline protested.

"If he doesn't feed, he'll die anyway love, consider this an experiment" Klaus said, a terrified Tyler looked at Klaus, "It's okay", after a little bit of hesitation, Tyler grabbed the vial from Klaus's hand, "There we go", Tyler then drank Elena's blood, "Good boy".

The group of four watched as Tyler fell to the ground, groaning and yelling in pain.

"No!" Caroline yelled as both her and Lily tried to get to the Lockwood boy, but Rebekah wouldn't let them go.

Klaus kneeled infront of Tyler and watched as he suddenly looked at him and yelled, with his eyes glowing yell and veins under the glowing eyes, exactly the way Klaus's eyes are.

"Well, that's a good sign" Klaus said, realising his hunch was right, in order to create hybrids he needed Elena's blood.

Klaus and Rebekah stood outside Mystic Falls Medical Center, waiting for the nurse to come with Elena's blood.

"So the doppelganger isn't the problem, her blood is the solution" Rebekah concluded, sitting on top of a car.

"Seems so" Klaus confirmed.

"How did you know?" a curious Rebekah asked.

"You know how much the Original Witch hated me" Klaus reminded, "Do you honestly think I would do anything other than the opposite of what she says?".

"A thousand years in the grave and she's still screwing with you" Rebekah taunted.

"It makes sense if you think about if from her perspective" Klaus said, "It was her fail-safe in case I ever broke the hybrid curse, the doppelganger had to die in order for me to become a hybrid, but if she was dead--".

"Then you couldn't use her blood to sire yourself a new species" Rebekah finished.

"Leaving me alone for all time" Klaus said.

"Is that what this is about?" Rebekah asked, "Your obsession with hybrids, you just don't want to be alone?".

"What I want is to take my girl, take my hybrid, get the hell out of this one-pony town" Klaus stated.

Rebekah stepped down from the car and looked at her brother, "If you are so lonely Nik, you shouldn't have pushed the girl you fancy to the point where she might never forgive you".

"I don't know what you're talking about" Klaus said, turning his back to Rebekah.

"Yes you do" Rebekah retorted, "It's obvious you fancy Lily, it's the only reason you didn't turn her into a hybrid, you didn't want to risk her life, because you care for her, but after what she did tonight, to Tyler, to Stefan, Lily's never going to trust you again".

Rebekah then turned around and walked, leaving behind a lost Klaus, who was left thinking was Lily really not going to trust him again?

Klaus's chain of thoughts were broke when he felt a presence behind him, "Well, look who finally decided to show up to the party" he said, knowing who was behind it, as he turned around his suspicion came true seeing the oldest Salvatore.

"Where is she?" a furious Damon asked.

"Elena?" Klaus asked, "Uh, she's making a donation to a greater cause", Damon tried to get past Klaus but the original hybrid stopped him, "Can't let you interfere, mate".

"Then you'll have to kill me" Damon snapped.

Klaus once again shoved Damon back, "Oh I would love to, but, uh, I made a pledge to your brother and unlike him, I keep my word, although, you know what thinking about it now he probably doesn't care that much anymore".

Klaus shoved Damon on to a car and just as he was about rip his heart out, Damon's next sentence stopped him.

"Don't you wanna know about your friend Mikael?" Damon asked.

"What do you know about Mikael?" a shocked Klaus asked, his hand tightening on Damon's throat.

"Just that he knows you're here" Damon informed.

"You're bluffing" Klaus stated, refusing to believe Damon was telling the truth.

"Katherine and I found him" Damon said, "Consider it our leverage".

A furious Klaus yelled and threw Damon into a another car before speeding away from the scene, realising he needed to get out of town before Mikael found him, but before that, he needed to see her.

A tired Lily stepped out of the school, exhausted from everything that happened tonight, immediately she came across Klaus, without saying anything to him, Lily tried to walk past him but Klaus grabbed her wrist, stopping her.

"Are you really going to ignore me?" Klaus asked.

Without looking at Klaus, Lily removed her hand from Klaus's grip and once again started to walk away.

"I'm leaving town!" Klaus informed, causing Lily to stop in her place.

Lily turned and faced Klaus, "Forever?" she asked.

"I'm not sure" Klaus said.

"For my sake Klaus, leave and never come back" Lily said.

"You hate me that much?" a hurt Klaus asked.

"I tried giving you the benefit of doubt" Lily snapped, glaring at the hybrid, "I tried so damn hard to not let everyone's opinion about you effect my opinion of you, but you just proved everyone right Klaus, you are a horrible person, I can never trust you, and I don't want my fate to be tied to someone who I can never trust, so go and never come back".

Lily once again turned around and started walking away from the hybrid, and this time Klaus didn't stop her, just stared at her retreating figure, wondering how he was supposed to fix this.
