05. Kill Or Be Killed

"Here, I got it" Lily said, grabbing the heavy box from her mother's hands.

"Thank you" Liz said, smiling at her daughter, as she placed the box on top of the cooler.

"Are you off today?" a slightly confused Caroline asked, coming out of her room and seeing her mother out of uniform.

"The Historical Society Volunteer Picnic is today" Liz reminded, "You're the one who signed me up".

"And mom then decided to sign me up, yay picnics!" Lily said sarcastically doing jazz hands, making Liz chuckle and Caroline shake her head.

"Oh, I know" Caroline told Liz, "I just assumed you'd bail".

"Nope, I'm gonna spend the whole day with my two daughters" Liz said.

"You're gonna pretend to be a mother?" Caroline asked, making Lily roll her eyes in annoyance.

"I'll bring my gun if it gets rough" Liz joked.

"You're definitely going to need it, she's in one of her moods today" Lily informed.

"Goody for me" Liz said, while Caroline glared at Lily, who in turn gave her a mock smile.

"Bitch" Caroline said.

"Cow" Lily retorted.

"Girls" Liz warned.

"Sorry" Caroline and Lily mumbled together.

Liz chuckled at her daughters, then turned to Caroline, remembering something, "What was Elena doing here so late last night?".

"Elena was here last night?" a confused Lily asked her sister.

An equally confused Caroline looked at her mother, "Elena wasn't--", suddenly realisation struck her, making her realise that her mother hadn't seen Elena, she had seen Katherine in her room last night, "Yes, Elena was here, she just needed to talk, her and Stefan are going through a rough patch".

"Surprise, surprise" Lily said.

"Lily" Liz warned.

"What?" Lily asked, "I might have changed in the past two years away, but one thing that hasn't changed, one thing that will probably never change is my dislike for that girl".

"How long are you going to hold a grudge against Elena for ruining your painting when we were ten?" Caroline asked.

"For the rest of my life" Lily replied.

"That's petty" Caroline said.

"And I am petty" Lily said proudly, "And I'm not going to apologise for it".

"You're an idiot" Caroline said, realising she was never going to win an argument against Lily.

"Back at you, sister" Lily said, she then turned to her amused mother, "So how much money will you take to let me ditch this picnic?".

"None" both Caroline and Liz said at the same time.

"Yeah, I thought as much" Lily mumbled, realising her mother and sister were not going to let her stay at home today.

"I love you so much" Lily said, running over to Tyler at the Grill and hugging him.

Tyler chuckled at Lily, but nonetheless hugged her back, "Anything for my best friend" he said.

"No, seriously" Lily said, breaking the hug and sitting next to Tyler, "Thank you so much for calling my mom and convincing her to let me spend the day with you instead of going to that stupid picnic".

"Well, from the thirty angry texts you sent me about that picnic, I figured you needed my help" Tyler teased.

"Look at you using your brain for once in your life" Lily teased, messing Tyler's hair up.

"Lily!" Tyler yelled, "Not the hair".

Lily laughed, "Sorry, Diva Lockwood".

"Nope" Tyler said, "We are not starting that nickname again".

"In that nicknames defense, it never went away in the first place" Lily retorted.

Before Tyler could say anything else to Lily, Jeremy walked over to the two best friends, "Hey guys, how've you been?" he asked.

"Since when?" a confused Tyler asked, wondering why Jeremy was talking to him.

"I don't know, I haven't seen either of you since your father's funeral" Jeremy replied, "I just figured that maybe you'd want--".

"I'm fine, Gilbert" an annoyed Tyler interrupted.

"Yeah, okay" a dejected Jeremy said, standing up to walk away.

Lily slapped Tyler's arm and gestured towards Jeremy, Tyler sighed, "Wait, hold up" he called out, "I'm sorry".

"Good boy" Lily whispered, making Tyler glare at her and in return she just took a sip of his drink.

Tyler shook his head at Lily and turned back to Jeremy, "Bad day, bad month".

"Bad town" Lily added.

"That too" Tyler said, as Jeremy walked back to the table, "Listen, you were cool that day, at the wake, thanks for that, felt like kind of a freak show".

"Yeah, well, I know the feeling well" Jeremy said, "What are you doing?".

"Keeping Lily company and distracting myself" Tyler replied, looking down at his phone.

"Oh god, please don't tell me you did what I think you did" Lily said, knowing fully well how Tyler distracted himself.

"Oh, I did" Tyler said, giving Lily a smug smile.

Lily groaned in annoyance and slammed her head on to the table, "I hate you".

"Love you too, Lils" Tyler said, patting the back of Lily's head.

"Wait, what's going on?" an amused Jeremy asked.

Before Tyler could clarify, two girls walked over to the table, "Hey, thanks for the text, where to?".

"My place" Tyler replied, "My mom's gone all day, empty house, fully stocked bar".

"Margaritas?".

"Sure" Tyler replied, he then looked at Jeremy, "You in?".

Jeremy looked between Tyler and the girls, "Yeah" he replied, "Yeah, yeah, I'm in".

"And I'm out" Lily said, standing up but before she could get away, Tyler grabbed the back of her shirt and pulled her towards him, "Tyler, no!".

"Lily, yes" Tyler said, putting his arm around Lily.

"I don't like those girls" Lily whispered to Tyler, making sure the girls couldn't hear her.

"You don't know them" Tyler retorted.

"Exactly!" Lily exclaimed, she then turned to Jeremy, "Help me here".

Jeremy put his hands up in surrender, "I am not getting involved in this" he said.

"Useless" Lily said, making Jeremy chuckle in return.

"Come on Lily, time to party" Tyler said, ignoring Lily's protests and taking her along with him to the Lockwood's manor.

Lily sat in the Lockwood's living room, drinking her non-alcoholic drink, bored out of her mind, she was seriously regretting not going to the Historical Picnic with her mother and sister, it couldn't have been worse then seeing the two girls, Aimee and Sarah get their flirt on with Tyler and Jeremy.

"Can I see?" Sarah asked Jeremy, taking his sketchbook out of his bag and gaining the groups attention.

"Uh, no, no, no way" Jeremy protested, quickly rushing over to Sarah.

"I wanna see" Aimee said, walking over to the duo with Tyler.

"Yeah, let's see" Tyler urged, "What's Van Gogh got going on?".

Jeremy looked at Tyler then at Lily, who was busy picking at her nail polish, what Tyler and Lily didn't know was the Elena had told Jeremy about the werewolf curse, and Jeremy wanted to see both Tyler and Lily's reaction to his sketches, so he finally agreed to show them.

"Okay, yeah, uh, check it out" Jeremy said, handing his sketchbook to Sarah, who didn't waste any time in going through it.

"Ooh, scary demon-wolf thing" Sarah chuckled, not only gaining Tyler's attention but also Lily's, who suddenly looked at Jeremy curiously, wondering if he knew.

"What's this about?" Tyler asked, taking the sketches from Sarah's hand and looking at them, while Lily stood up and looked at Jeremy's sketches over Tyler's shoulder.

"Just some sketches, you still draw, Tyler?" Jeremy asked.

"A little, but not much" Tyler replied, as Lily grabbed the sketchbook from his hand and started going through all of Jeremy's sketches, realising all of them were drawings of wolves.

Immediately Lily looked at Jeremy, "I paint" she suddenly said, "Want to see some, Jer?".

"Here?" Jeremy asked, slightly confused.

Lily nodded, "Yeah, here" she said, giving Jeremy a look, letting him no he has no choice but to follow her.

Jeremy finally nodded and said, "Yeah, okay, sure".

"I'm also coming" Tyler said.

Lily simply nodded, Mason having informed her that he had told Tyler about the curse and about him being a werewolf, but Tyler was still in the dark about Lily triggering her curse, she figured this was the perfect opportunity to come clean.

Tyler, Lily and Jeremy entered the Lockwood's study together, while Lily closed the door behind her, Tyler rushed over and slammed Jeremy against the wall and started choking him.

"Tyler!" A shocked Lily yelled, this was not what she was expecting.

"What are those pictures about, huh?!" Tyler asked Jeremy, ignoring Lily's yell.

"I can't breathe" Jeremy breathed out.

"Answer me, why?!" Tyler asked, "Why wolf pictures?!".

"Because--because I know" Jeremy revealed, shocking Tyler while Lily simply sighed, realising people in this town just couldn't mind their own business.

Lily then rushed towards the two boys and shoved Tyler away from Jeremy and stood between them, "Let's talk like civil people, okay?" she warned Tyler.

Tyler looked at Lily, then back at Jeremy, who was standing behind the Forbes werewolf, "You know what?" he asked, as Lily also turned to face Jeremy, "You know what, Jeremy?!".

Jeremy looked between Tyler and Lily, "I know what you two are".

"How do you know about all this?" a confused Tyler asked Jeremy.

"My Uncle John left this old diary lying around" Jeremy replied, "It was written by a crazy Gilbert ancestor who wrote about this curse that ran in your family".

"Curse about what?" Tyler asked.

"Werewolves" Jeremy replied.

"How do you know that I have the same curse?" Lily asked Jeremy.

Jeremy shrugged, "It was honestly a wild guess, before you left you used to have the same rage Tyler has now, and in the diary, it said that werewolves have extreme anger issues, it's crazy, right? But then Matt was attacked by a wolf under a full moon and both Mason and Lily had just gotten back to town, it was just, it was too weird".

"Okay, I didn't attack Matt, and either did Mason" Lily snapped, not liking people blaming her for something she didn't do.

"But is the rest true?" Jeremy asked.

"About my uncle?" Tyler asked, he glanced at Lily, "Or about Lily?".

Lily looked at Tyler in slight shock, "Hold up, you know?".

Tyler nodded, "I'm not an idiot Lily" he said, "You leave town and when you come back you're a completely different person, when Mason told me the truth about him, I figured you were just like him, on top of that he was with you when you were away".

Lily sighed, "I was gonna tell you, but it's not something you just blurt out".

"I am hurt that you kept all this a secret from me" Tyler admitted, "But I also get it, honestly if I hadn't seen Mason that night, I don't think I would have believed anything he said".

"So what, you're not?" Jeremy asked Tyler.

"A wolf?" Tyler asked, "I'm sorry, a werewolf? No, I mean, not yet, you know, hell, just saying that out loud, I sound insane".

"You don't sound insane, Ty" Lily assured, placing a comforting hand on Tyler's shoulder.

"I agree" Jeremy added, "But then again, I always did believe in the crazy stuff".

Tyler glanced at Lily, "According to my uncle, you have to trigger the curse" he said, causing Lily to immediately remove her hand from his shoulder and look infront of her, her sudden tense posture not missed by any of the boys, "Somebody has to die at your hands, like murder or an accident, I basically have to cause death, and then, boom, next full moon, I'm howling on all fours".

Jeremy looked at Lily, "How did you trigger your curse?" he asked.

Hearing Jeremy's question, caused Lily to tighten her hands into a fist, her breathing suddenly very heavy.

"Lils" a concerned Tyler said, grabbing Lily's hand, "You don't have to tell us anything if you're not comfortable".

Lily looked at Tyler, a sense of vulnerability in her eyes, "I'm not a murderer" she whispered.

"I never said you were" Tyler said.

"I didn't mean for her to die Ty" Lily said.

"I know" Tyler said, "You're not a murderer, I know whatever must have happened would have been an accident, you can tell me about it when you're ready, I'll wait".

"Thank you" Lily said, giving Tyler a grateful smile

"Anytime" Tyler said, ruffling Lily's hair.

"So, did Mason come back to tell you all this?" Jeremy asked Tyler, changing the subject from Lily after realising he might have overstepped his boundaries.

Tyler scoffed, "Yeah, right" he said, "He had to tell me, I caught him, he's not here for me", Tyler pulled out the moonstone from his pants pocket and showed it to both Jeremy and Lily, "He's here for this".

"What is it?" Jeremy asked, examining the stone Tyler had shown him.

"It's a moonstone" Tyler informed, "I looked it up online, it's a natural rock but they're supposed to have all sorts of supernatural legends attached to them".

"Well, why didn't you give it to him?" Jeremy asked, slightly confused.

"Because he wants it" Tyler replied simply, "I'm a dick that way, it's important to him for some reason, but I don't trust the guy, so I'm not just gonna hand it to him".

"Good idea" Lily said, ever since coming back to Mystic Falls, something about Mason's behavior hasn't felt right to Lily, even she found it hard to trust him.

"Found you" Sarah said, rushing into the study with Aimee, immediately causing Lily to roll her eyes.

"You guys are missing all the drinking" Aimee said.

"Oh no" Lily said sarcastically.

"Oh, I'm sorry, were you three having a moment?" Sarah asked.

"Yeah, we were about to have threesome" Lily snapped, immediately causing the girls to look at her in shock, while Jeremy chuckled and Tyler placed her hand over an annoyed Lily's mouth.

"She's kidding" Tyler said, as Lily slapped his hand away, "We were just talking".

"Hey, hey, what is that?" Aimee asked, snatching the moonstone from Jeremy's hands.

"Woah, hey" an annoyed Tyler said.

"Pretty" Sarah commented.

"Mm-hm" Aimee agreed.

Tyler stood up from his seat, "Okay, let's not play with the rock" he said.

"Well, come and get it" Aimee said, walking backwards.

"And this is why I hate people" Lily mumbled.

"Look, I'll play along for a little bit, but seriously, give it back" Tyler said.

Aimee chuckled and showed Tyler her hand, only for him to realise it was empty.

"Lookie here" Sarah called out, causing Tyler to turn to her and realise she had the moonstone, "You snooze, you lose".

Tyler rushed after Sarah, and Aimee followed, after exchanging a look between them Lily and Jeremy also rushed after the girls.

"You're lucky you're cute when drunk" Tyler said, as Sarah rushed up the stairs.

"I want Jeremy to come get it" Sarah said.

"Give me a break" Tyler said, rushing up the stairs towards Sarah.

"Sarah, don't be a bad drunk" Aimee warned.

"Why do you even drink if you can't handle your alcohol?" an annoyed Lily asked.

"Jeremy, come upstairs with me, see how bad a drunk I can be" Sarah said, ignoring Lily.

"Uh, I'm good, thanks" an awkward Jeremy said.

"Come on, seriously, just give it--", Tyler tried to get the moonstone off of Sarah, but she kept hiding it.

"Ah! Oh!" Sarah teased.

"This isn't funny" Tyler snapped.

"Ty, be careful" Lily warned, as Tyler and Sarah started wrestling on top of the stairs, even the slightest slip and one of them could get seriously hurt.

"Hey, that hurts" Sarah said, as Tyler tried to get the moonstone off of her.

"Easy there, just let me--let go!", Tyler finally managed to get the moonstone off of Sarah, but then suddenly Sarah's foot slipped and she fell down the stairs.

"Oh my god" Lily whispered.

"Sarah!" Jeremy yelled, as him, Lily and Aimee laid kneeled by an unconscious Sarah's body.

"Oh, my god, Sarah, Sarah" a panicked Aimee called out.

"She fell" Tyler quickly defended, rushing down the stairs.

"She's not moving" Aimee informed.

Lily put her head on Sarah's chest, she then looked at Tyler, a relief look on her face, "She's still breathing" she assured.

As soon as Lily said that, Sarah opened her eyes, "Fooled you" she teased, making everyone breathe a sigh of relief, Sarah looked at Tyler, "You pushed me down the stairs".

"That was your own fault" Lily snapped, "Next time, don't get drunk and steal other people's things".

"I was just having fun" Sarah defended, as Aimee helped her get up.

"No one except you found that funny" Lily said.

"Hey, Lils" Tyler said, "It's okay, let it go".

Lily looked at Tyler and after a moment nodded.

"I can't believe you agreed to this!" a furious Lily said, walking up to the Salvatore Boarding House with her sister.

After the scare at Tyler's, Lily got a phone call from Caroline, who let her know that their mother knew about Damon and Stefan being vampires because of Mason, and she tried to kill them but both Caroline and Elena rescued them, while doing so Caroline ended up exposing herself as a vampire to their mother, and not wanting Liz to expose any one of them Damon decided she was going to stay in their cellar till the vervain was out of her system so they could compel her to forget everything that happened tonight, much to Lily's dismay.

"I had no choice" Caroline defended, "This is the best solution for everyone, Lily".

 "For everyone?" Lily asked, "Or for Damon Salvatore?".

"Mom is never going to accept me!" Caroline yelled.

"You haven't even tired talking to her!" Lily yelled back, "You haven't even tried to sit down and explain to her what actually happened to you".

"She won't understand" Caroline argued.

"She's our mother, Caroline" Lily snapped, "If anyone's going to understand, then it's her, I admit, when she found out I was a werewolf, it took her time to accept, but she did, because I'm her daughter, just like you, she will accept you, but you have got to give her time, compelling her isn't going to help, it's just going to delay the inevitable".

Caroline sighed, "Damon is never going to agree to let her go" she whispered.

"Damon isn't going to agree, or you don't want her to leave knowing that you're a vampire?" Lily retorted, giving her sister a knowing look.

"Lily--".

"Save it" Lily interrupted, "I'm tired of listening to your excuses".

Lily turned to the Salvatore's front door and rapidly started knocking on it, after a moment, Elena finally opened the door.

"Finally" Lily said, shoving Elena to the side and walking into the house, "Now, where's my mom?".

"In the basement" Elena replied, as Caroline gave her an apologetic look for Lily's behaviour.

"Lily" Stefan greeted, walking over to the girls.

Lily nodded her head at Stefan, "I'm sorry about what my mom did to you tonight, but you can't blame her, for her vampires are the monsters we watch and read about".

"It's okay, I don't blame her, I get it" Stefan assured, making Lily give him a small smile.

Lily, Caroline, Stefan and Elena then walked downstairs to check up on Liz, as the group walked down stairs, they heard Liz talk to Damon.

"Keep Caroline away from me, please" Liz told Damon, she was having a hard time accepting the fact that one of her daughter was a werewolf, while the other was a vampire, "I don't wanna see her".

"She's your daughter, Liz" Damon reminded.

Liz shook her head, "Not anymore" she stated, "My daughter's gone".

"You have no idea how wrong you are about that" Damon said.

Caroline placed her mother's bag outside the cellar and rushed upstairs, not wanting to hear anything else, Lily hesitated for a moment, wondering who to go to, her mother or her sister, after a moment, Lily turned and rushed to comfort her upset sister.

Lily walked into the Salvatore's living room and quietly went and sat next to her emotional sister.

After a moment of silence, she finally spoke, "When I triggered my curse and mom sent me away, she didn't speak to me for six months" she admitted, "For six months, she ignored all my calls and texts, refused to talk to me and refused to let me talk to you".

Caroline looked at her sister in shock, "You wanted to talk to me?" she asked.

"Of course I wanted to talk to you" Lily replied, "You're my sister, but mom didn't trust me".

"Then how did you two go back to being mother and daughter?" Caroline asked curiously.

"Time" Lily replied, "As time went on, mom realised I was still her daughter, not her biological daughter, but still her daughter, eventually time helped her accept that she can't change who I am, all she can do is let me know that she loves me, and that she is still my mother, what I'm trying to say is that, yeah she might take some time, but she will accept you, however I get you being scared of her not accepting you, so just this once, I guess, I'll agree to mom being compelled".

Caroline gave her sister a grateful smile, "I just don't want to see disgust in her eyes for me".

Lily wrapped her arm around Caroline's shoulder and pulled her into a hug, "It's going to be okay Care Bear, one way or another, we are going to have our mother back".

"Swear?" Caroline whispered.

"I swear on your life" Lily teased, making Caroline chuckle, "So, shall we go home now?".

Caroline broke her and Lily's hug and shook her head, "I can't go home" she said.

Lily looked at her sister in confusion, "And why's that?" she asked.

"Because I'm scared" Caroline cried.

"Caroline, why are you scared of going to our own house?" a concerned Lily asked.

"Katherine's gonna be there" Caroline informed.

"Who the hell is Katherine?" Lily asked confused.

"Stefan and Damon's ex, who happens to be Elena's doppelganger" Caroline revealed, shocking Lily.

"Doppel what?!" Lily asked.

"Doppelganger" Caroline repeated, "Her and Elena have the same face".

"I know what a doppelganger is, but seriously, there's two of them?!" a shocked Lily asked, Caroline nodded her head, "And here I can hardly tolerate one, and why are you so scared of facing this Katherine person?".

"She's gonna want me to tell her everything that happened today" Caroline replied, "She told me I had to spy on Elena and report back to her".

"Since when does Caroline Forbes do what other people ask her to do?" a confused Lily asked.

"Since her annoying little sister's life is threatened" Caroline replied.

"Pardon?" Lily asked, not sure if she heard Caroline correctly or not.

"Katherine was going to kill you" Caroline revealed, "If I didn't do what she asked me, then Katherine was going to kill you, and I am so scared of her Lily, I am so scared of her".

"Hey, hey, hey" Lily whispered, pulling her hysterical sister into a hug, "It's going to be okay Care".

"I didn't want to lose you" Caroline whispered, "I can't lose you Lily".

"And you're not going to" Lily assured, running her hand through Caroline's sister, "I'm right here Caroline, till the very end I am here, let this Katherine girl come after me, I will claw her face off".

Caroline let out a small chuckle, "I love you, Lils".

"Love you too, Care Bear" Lily whispered.

"Greta, what is taking so long?!" a frustrated Klaus asked.

"Klaus, you are asking me to figure out why you're having random dreams about a random girl, that's not easy to figure out" Greta replied.

"They are not random dreams, Greta" Klaus snapped, "I'm having them for a reason and I need to know what that reason is".

Greta sighed, she knew Klaus wasn't going to let this go till he figured out who the girl was and why he was having dreams about her, "Fine, let's try this one more time".

"Great" Klaus said, sitting on the couch.

Greta walked behind Klaus, she put her hands on the side of his head and started chanting, unlike the other six attempts, this time something actually happened, this time Greta saw why Klaus was having dreams about this girl, however before she could stop chanting and tell Klaus the reason, she was suddenly transported into the middle of the woods.

"You can not tell him".

Greta turned around only to come face to face with the witch that did the spell on Klaus a thousand years ago, Ayana Bennett.

"He needs to know" Greta said, "Klaus needs to know that this girl means to him".

Ayana shook her head, "Niklaus can not know what I did, not yet anyways".

Greta looked at Ayana in confusion, "If you don't want him to know, then why do the spell on him?".

Ayana sighed, "Because I could not stop Esther from cursing her own son, but I had to do something for Niklaus, and this was the only way I could think of to help him".

"And it will" Greta said, "This will help him, you have to let me tell him".

Ayana shook her head, "No" she said, "Niklaus must find his own way to this girl, I know him and I know as soon as he finds out what this girl means to him, he will run away from her, he will ruin not only his own life but also her, he needs to find her on his own, he needs to know what she is to him on his own, that's the only way he will allow himself to love her, he will never love her if he finds out that a spell is pushing them together, he will think the only reason this girl is accepting is because of the spell, which isn't true, these two are meant for each other, the spell is just ensuring they find each other".

"And when will that be?" Greta asked.

"Soon" Ayana assured, "Everything is in place, very soon Niklaus Mikaelson and Laya Singh will come face to face, and once they do, everyone will witness the epic story of these two star cross lovers".

"Star cross?" Greta asked shocked, "What do you mean by star cross lovers?".

Greta sighed, "When I did this spell, Esther tried to undo it because of Mikael, who could not tolerate his son one day finding his happiness, though Esther couldn't undo my spell, she unintentionally placed a curse on both Klaus and Laya".

"What kind of curse?" Greta asked curiously.

"Klaus and Laya will love each other with everything they have, but because of the curse, they will not be able to spend forever together" Ayana informed.

"Oh my god" a shocked Greta whispered, "Do you mean that-".

"It is set in stone, that Niklaus Mikaelson and Laya Singh's story will end with one of their deaths" Ayana revealed.

In the real world, Greta gasped and stepped away from Klaus.

"So?" a hopeful Klaus asked, "Did you find anything?".

Greta looked at Klaus, she wanted to tell Klaus about the spell and the couple's destiny, but she didn't want to face Ayana and the other witches wrath so she decided to keep quiet, but what Ayana had allowed her to tell Greta was the name of the girl.

"Laya" Greta whispered.

Klaus looked at Greta in confusion, "What?" he asked.

"The name of the girl you've been seeing in your dreams, is Laya Singh" Greta revealed, "That's all I could get, I'm sorry Klaus".

After knowing the name of the girl of his dreams, immediately caused a small smile to form on Klaus's face, "Laya" he whispered, suddenly feeling like he and this girl shared a deeper connection then he realised.
