~(Y/n)'s POV~

"Laslow... What are you doing?" I ask as he keeps poking my cheek over and over again. "Your cheeks are warm and soft," he said with closed eyes and a grin. I sighed and tried to make him stop. He only continued to poke my cheek. That's when I began poking his cheek over and over again. He started chuckling and I giggled along. "Found you two." A deep voice resounds from behind us. Hans, one of King Garon's men, stands behind us.

"You're both to accompany me to the Bottomless Canyon. There's been strange activity recently," he said. Laslow and I exchange looks. I could tell he was thinking the same thing as me. This sounds a little suspicious. Wouldn't the King send more than three people to check out strange activity? Laslow and I didn't say anything and followed behind Hans. I took a few steps away from Hans and trailed behind. Laslow noticed and followed suit.

"What's wrong, (Y/n)?" Laslow asked. "This doesn't feel right..." I mutter to him. "It is strange that King Garon only sends the three of us to investigate the Bottomless Canyon." I nodded in agreement to his statement. "What're you both mumbling about back there?" Hans asked with a scary look. I flinched and took a step back. Laslow immediately stood in front of me protectively. "Just making sure my lady is feeling well," Laslow said. Hans growled and turned away from us. Laslow and I sigh in relief. "Thank you for that, Laslow."

He smiles down at me and rests a hand on my cheek. "I won't let anything happen to you, alright?" I nodded and smiled up at him. He kisses me on my forehead and we begin our journey to the Bottomless Canyon. On the way, I ended up singing to myself. "You have a beautiful voice. You should sing more often, (Y/n)," Laslow commented. I started blushing and tried to cover it up with conversation. "I-I thought you wouldn't hear me. I was trying to be quiet so no one would hear me."

"Why do you want to hide your beautiful voice?" He asked. "I could ask the same of your dancing. It's graceful and beautiful. You're amazing, Laslow." It was his turn to be red. "You know about my dancing?" He asked with a little bit of shock in his voice. I nod and smile. "Hey, once we get back, I could sing for you. And in return, you have to dance for me," I suggest. "I have a better idea. How about you sing and I dance to your song?"

"I'd love that," I cheer. Laslow grabs my hand and laces his fingers through mine. Hans kept to himself and it didn't bother us one bit. It felt like Laslow and I were the only ones in the world.

-Bottomless Canyon-

"It's darker than I thought..." I look over the edge and see nothing but an endless abyss of blackness. "Let's get this over with," Hans said under his breath. I don't think I was supposed to hear that. He hasn't told us anything about the suspicious activity. I feel like he's hiding something. Laslow's hand squeezed mine as if to signal he was thinking the same thing. Hans was across one of the many bridges located in the Bottomless Canyon. A loud crack got my attention and I looked towards Hans. He was using his axe to cut the ropes that held up the bridge.

"What are you doing?!" Laslow shouts at him. Hans laughs deeply and begins chopping away again. One of the ropes was about to snap and I pulled out a wind tome quickly. I used the tome to push Laslow safely to the side where Hans wasn't. "(Y/n)!" Laslow yells my name. The rope snaps and I hold on for dear life. I drop my tome into the abyss under me and hold on to the last rope. Hans began chopping at the last rope.

"Stop!" Laslow yelled at Hans. "Not until she's dead!" Hans shouts back. Laslow's face is full of worry and anger. He tries to approach the bridge but I stop him. "No! Don't come any closer!" I scream at him. His face is struck with fear and I was paralyzed with it. "I'm going to save you! I promised you before and I'm not breaking that promise!"

A sad smile formed on my face and I stared at Laslow with tears in my eyes. "I'm sorry, Laslow. But... Some promises have to be broken. I was hoping I could say this somewhere else, but... I love you." The rope broke and I was consumed by darkness.

"No! (Y/n)!" Laslow's voice was the last thing I heard before my whole world was swallowed by darkness.
