Yarne X Reader

((Yessss I love Yarne! This was requested by Gempai !!! Hopefully this turns out well!!))

Today was all work work work...being the busy tactician that I was, people relied on me to make arrangements when it came to fighting.

It was a big task that had to be done.

I can't complain though. People respect me for what I do and I enjoy being of help to people! In fact, I suppose it's pretty fun to do as well.

Sometimes it just gets tiring...especially with the pressure of Chrom, a high prince, relying on me to make sure we win and nobody gets hurt in our army. If someone gets hurt, it's my fault...

I took my mind off of all my work and decided to hang out with Panne for a bit. She and I were best friends. We fought in battle really often and talked often.

She had recently gotten married, and I heard that she now had a son who had joined our army. I hadn't seen him yet, so I decided to go and check up on her in hopes of her introducing him to me.

Knock knock knock!

"Panne? Are you there? I was hoping to hang out today." I said and smiled.

I heard footsteps rush towards the door, and it burst open. "(Y/N)! Perfect timing! I'm going out for a bit. If it's not too much trouble, could you watch over my son, Yarne?"

"Oh! Yeah I'm not too busy! That would be fine." I said and walked inside the room she was in.

I didn't see a little boy like I expected to. Instead I saw a grown man...who turned out to be a Taguel, just like Panne was.

"Is...that him? He looks like he could be old enough to watch himself...no offense, but, you know..!" I said and laughed a bit nervously. Her son was pretty cute, though I did see a bit of fear in his eyes when he looked at me.

"He gets scared very easily. I don't want him doing anything too drastic. I hope you understand...he just gets very lonely and scared without me." Panne explained with a calm smile.

"Oh! I see. I can take it from here." I said, sort of understanding the situation. Panne sighed with relief.

"Thank you so much (Y/N). Goodbye now." She said and ran off towards her destination. I let out a sigh and looked towards her son.

"Alright Yarne, so- huh? Hey, where'd you go?" I asked, realizing that he was not where I had last seen him. I looked around and scanned the room, then walked into the next room and searched around.

"Yarrrrne! Where are you? You don't have to be scared of me, I-I promise I don't bite!" I shouted in hopes he would come out.

As I was searching behind a stock of weapons, I heard a floorboard creek and instantly turned around to see Yarne trying to sneak away.

"Aha!" I shouted victoriously.

"Eep! Don't hurt me!" Yarne cried, his eyes full of fear as he leapt away from me.

"Hey, wait!" I shouted and ran after him. He ran out the door and towards...Chrom! Chrom seemed to be examining a map with Frederick in hopes of setting a battle plan.

If he saw me chasing after Yarne...I don't even want to picture how embarrassing it would be!! I tackled Yarne to the ground before he could run near Chrom.

"Yarne! Please! I won't hurt you, I-I swear!" I said as I held him down to the ground.

"Why should I trust you?" He said defensively and glared at me.

"Because I'm a friend of your mom! I've known her for a long time!" I said and got off him, praying that he wouldn't make a run for it this time.

He stood up slowly, and examined me as if I might be carrying a deadly bomb. "You're...not lying to me, right?"

"No! Why else would your mom leave you in my care? Now please, let's go back, okay?" I said with a smile. He sighed and nodded.

"But don't try anything funny!" He stated, giving me a death glare. "I won't." I reassured him.

So we went back into Panne's room, and despite me being a friend of Panne's, he still sat in the corner, eyeing me up and down as I read through my magic book.

I knew that things couldn't go on like this much longer...what kind of babysitter was I? I stood up and looked at Yarne, shutting my magic book.

"Do you perhaps want anything to eat?" I asked, and he thought about that for a while. "...w-well..." He said thoughtfully. "I've never tried bear meat..."

"Bear meat?" I asked in shock. We were all out of stock over here... "I know t-there's none left, but maybe we can hunt some...?" Yarne asked with a nervous smile.

"I don't want you getting hurt..." I said with a sigh.

"I won't! T-this is a good opportunity for you to teach me how to be a better and more confident fighter! This bear is nothing compared to all those other guys...right?" Yarne asked, a bit wary.

"I suppose it would only be polite..."

"Yay!" Yarne exclaimed and rushed out of Panne's room. "H-huh?! Yarne, w-wait up!" I shouted, rushing after him.

Yarne was a fast runner...I specialize in magic, so running is not really my specialty...

I tried my best to push through all the obstacles in my way, but I was slowly losing him. I lost my ability to run any longer and stood there in the middle of the woods, panting.

"Y...Yarne!" I shouted with all my might, but there was no response. I sighed and tried to walk through the forest, when suddenly I heard a branch break.

I let out a sigh of relief and walked towards the noise. "Yarne, you do know what Panne would do to me if I let you get lo-"

Growl....

I let out a squeak as I noticed that Yarne wasn't there, but instead two humungous bears!

I had no strength left to run, so I tried to escape, but really stood no chance. The bear roared and the other bear clawed me down the the floor, causing me to drop my magic book.

"Gah-!" I cried in fear. Struggling, I tried to wiggle out of the bear's grasp, but he yanked back my legs and prepared to bite.

The other bear helped pin me down while the first bear prepared to eat me. "Some..somebody...anybody, help! Please!" I cried, closing my eyes shut tight when I began to feel the bear's hot breath.

I prepared myself for the bear's attack, when I suddenly heard a roar, that for sure didn't belong to a bear.

"D-don't worry (Y/N), I-I'll save you!" I heard Yarne say. I opened my eyes to see both bears lying on their backs, clearly dead.

I sat up and stared in awe at how fast Yarne had managed to kill them off. "Yarne...that was amazing!!" I said, full of glee.

I was excited, but also happy that I was going to live another day. He turned back to his normal form and I hugged him tightly.

"I-It was no biggie..heh heh..." Yarne said with a slight blush. "It was a HUGE biggie!" I said, beginning to pet him as if he were a dog. He seemed to like it, cause every time I pet him, his smile would get a bit brighter.

He got a bit embarrassed when I stopped petting him to looked at his smile. "You've got your mother's cuteness..." I said with a small giggle.

Yarne's face went red as soon as I said that. "W-well, you're no doubt cuter than me..!" He stated and puffed up his cheek with air. I stopped petting him and laughed a bit.

"No! All Taguel's are naturally cute. I don't stand a chance against your cuteness!" I stated, examining the dead bears.

"Hmm...what will we do with all this bear meat...?" I asked, using some of my Arcwind to help it float so I wouldn't have to carry those two bear's back to camp.

"Well, at least now we'll have lots of food!" Yarne said in an attempt to look at the brighter side. I nodded in agreement. These bears sure did weigh a lot, cause I was using up a lot of magic just carrying them.

I placed down the bears by the food supplies, then me and Yarne quickly ran off to avoid drawing any attention to ourselves.

I didn't want Chrom getting mad at us for hunting, then again, he probably would be happy since we ran all out of bear meat...but nobody in our camp really enjoys eating bear too much.

Yarne got a taste of cooked bear meat, cooked by me using my Arcfire, and he seemed to like it a lot. Panne liked bear meat too, so that was funny to laugh at.

"Thanks for the treat! And s-sorry for running off without you...mom never let me go hunt before, mostly because she thought I would run away from the animal...b-but I spent time preparing myself so I wouldn't run off! Yet still, she didn't let me budge..."

I gave him a calm smile. "She's just looking out for you, don't take it too personally." I said and pat him on the back.

"Yeah, you're right." Yarne said with a nod. "I just wanted to be independent for once and help out everyone by proving I could hunt food...I'm always scared and so not...useful."

I frowned a bit. It was understandable thinking, but I couldn't help but get mad at how he pictured himself.

"Yarne, you are useful! You may be scared of danger, but you have fought enemies before, am I wrong?" I asked. "Well, no, but..."

"I don't think I've ever seen you run away from an enemy! You're very useful! Just because you're not as brave as everyone else doesn't make you unhelpful. I bet if we work together on your confidence and braveness, then we can change your point of view!"

I stated proudly. He looked down at the floor. "Do you really think I'm helpful...?"

"Yes! I don't think you give yourself enough credit." I said and hugged Yarne tightly without thinking. He hugged back and buried his head into my shoulder.

"Ah...you saying that makes me feel a lot better already..."

"So, are you helpful?"

"Uh...I guess..."

"No "I guess", say yes! Now are you helpful?"

"Y-yes!"

"I can't hear you!"

"Yes! I am helpful!"

"What's going on in here?"

Me and Yarne turned our heads fast to see Panne standing there, a little bit confused, but mostly weirded out.

"M-mom! We were just, d-doing some motivational speaking!" Yarne said with a worried smile.

Panne eyed me and gave me a look that asked: "what did you do to him while I was gone?"

"O-oh, I caught my own bear today! Two of them!" Yarne said proudly, however Panne wasn't as happy.

"(Y/N), you let him catch a bear?!" She asked, clearly enraged. "W-wait, it was my idea!" Yarne said frantically.

"I'm sorry!" I said quickly over and over again as Panne proceeded to chase me all over the room. But soon I was out of breath, so she caught me.

Damn it, if only Taguel weren't so fast and if only I weren't so slow..!

After suffering through Panne's lecture to me, Yarne talked her out of being mad at me, and so we eventually made up.

And I escaped with only two bruises!

As I was leaving Panne's room, I was stopped by Yarne. "H-hey! Wait!" He shouted, causing me to look back at him. "Hm? Oh, hi Yarne. I was just leaving."

"I-I-I just, wanted to say thank you...for helping me feel more confident...and for helping me lure those two bears over. Mom was really impressed once she saw the size of them."

I laughed a bit and smiled happily. "Anytime you need help luring a bear, don't hesitate to call me over." He laughed a bit and nodded.

"I-I won't...will I see you again? Please please tell me you will!" Yarne begged, taking hold of my hand and gazing into my eyes. I laughed a bit I rubbed his head.

"Don't worry, you will. Next time I see you, you better be a confident person, alright?"

"I will, I promise..." He said, his face showing signs of being sad that I was going. So I planted a kiss on his forehead and smiled.

"Goodbye now!"

He lit up with happiness, his face a bit red. "O-okay! Bye!"

Taguel's are really cute. That's what I learned that day.

((Sorry if this one was a bit weird! I'm still getting used to writing Fire Emblem one shots! Thank you for reading, hopefully you can all stick with me!))
