Chapter 13 Heroes of the Oasis

The group was in the center of the castle. Finally face to face with the Queen of Solm, Seforia.

Seforia smiled at Veyle and the royals, "Divine One, royals of the three kingdoms...Welcome to Solm Palace. I'm Seforia, the queen of Solm."

Veyle smiled and bowed her head, "it's an honor to meet you, Queen Seforia"

Seforia chuckled, "And you. Really, it's a treat." She crossed her arms, "and a surprise! I never expected Fogado to bring the Divine Dragon here. Out of everything he's done on his outings, this is the most impressive."

"I was just doing what any Prince would do for his Queen" Fogado had a sly smile on his face.

"That's 'Mom' to you." Seforia scolded, "My son—tries to act so cool, so detached"

Veyle couldn't help but crack a smile at that. She enjoy they seem so casual, yet playful with each other. It also made her feel wanting a relationship like that with Lumera, if she were alive.

"Anyways! Those introductions when you arrived. There were...a lot of them" Seforia snapped Veyle back down to earth, "First you, and then the Firenese, Brodian, and Elusian royalty...Quite the guest list! I was so overwhelmed, I nearly fell off my throne."

Veyle felt guilty, a frown formed on her face, "you have my apologies. We're here about a very important matter."

"Yes, you said. Fell Dragon Sombron's return. I had no idea all that was happening" Seforia said, hand on her hip, "and he created those creatures, hm? That explains why they're so vicious."

"But your palace hasn't been attacked by Corrupted? Or Elusian forces?" Veyle asked. One thing she took note of, the castle didn't seem to be damaged recently in the past few months. Or even ever for that matter.

"Oh, it has" Seforia nodded, "we got rid of them"

"I see. You got rid of them..." Veyle repeated before doing a double take, "wait, really? All of them?"

Seforia was almost amused, "you seemed surprised"

Veyle waved her hands around, hoping she didn't hurt Seforia's feelings, "I mean I am impressed! I am just glad no one had breached the palace and everyone is okay"

"I am sorry to hear the other countries are having a harder time of it." Seforia said before her voice soften, "And Queen Lumera...I visited her in Lythos many times. She was always a very gracious. Naturally, the Queendom of Solm stands with you in your war against the Fell Dragon."

"Thank you" Veyle gave a kind smile towards Seforia, "On that note, I have a request. The Ring of the Radiant Hero, which was entrusted to Solm...May I take it?"

"Of course. I'll get it right away" Seforia agreed in no time before pausing, "wait...hmm...where was it again?"

Veyle and the others were taken aback by that question. Did she seriously have no idea where it is?

"I haven't seen it for a while" Seforia looked at her son, "Fogado, do you know where the ring might be?"

"No clue." Fogado shrugged casually, "Maybe it's in the doodad drawer?"

"Hm. Please, wait here a moment" Seforia told the group before walking off to talk to her guards.

"Oh!..OK..." Veyle looked like she saw the most strangest thing ever.

"The 'Doodad drawer.'" Ivy deadpanned.

"Has it been lying around in a musty cupboard this whole time?" Alfred asked himself as he mumbled. A hand running down his face.

"This is one of the strongest Emblem Rings." Diamant slowly shock his head, "I... I don't know what to say."

After a minute, Seforia came back, "ah, you know what? I just remembered. Timerra took it with her."

"Timerra?" Veyle tilted her head.

"My sister. Also, the crown princess." Fogado informed with a smile.

"She's set to inherit my crown..." Seforia informed, "and like Fogado, she's always out doing who knows what. To be fair, I acted the same when I was younger. Anyways, she's been gone for days."

"Probably on a camping trip." Fogado said, before mumbling, "Oh, that sounds great right now."

"So, it's true. The crown princess and prince aren't around much." Alfred hummed, looking up at Diamant.

"And she doesn't know when they'll be back" Diamant said. He can't tell if he should facepalm or laugh or both.

"We can look for Princess Timerra." Veyle said to Seforia, "Do you have any idea where she might be?"

Seforia paused to think, tapping her chin before nodding, "I think she was heading ti the southern desert...in which case, she'll set up camp in the oasis."

"All right, then. We'll head there." Veyle smiled, "Thank you very much"

"You know, a trip to the oasis is just what I need!" Seforia stretched, "I'll pack my things."

Fogado panicked, looking at Seforia and spoke, "Actually, Mom, how about you stay put?"

Seforia rolled her eyes, "oh, all right. You kids go on without me. If you find Timerra, do summon the Emblem, will you?" She asked Veyle, "I'd love to meet him. Be careful, it's already getting dark out."

"Come on, everyone—I'll lead the way!" Fogado said as he began to take the group out of the castle.

~

A camp fire heats up the somewhat warm yet also cooler. Sticks of fresh raw meat roast over the fire. Fruits sta closely to the logs.

A African American female with a colorful design hummed softly as she whipped her hands, "Mhm! This meat is gonna hit the spot!" She stood up and cheered, "I hope you're fun, 'cause that's what's on the menu first!"

She cleared her throat, "Ahem...and now, an exclusive performance from the one and only...Timerra!" She giggled, "I'll be performing my favorite song with my back up singers, Merrin and Panette!"

"Ready!" A blonde female smiled. She wore a blue suit, purple shorts and a giant wolf tail. Her wolf rested near by. Her name was Merrin.

"As am I!" A orange hair female said. She had make up that somewhat resembles a scarecrow. Her dress screamed funeral yet also cute. Her name was Panette.

"Hope you remember the words!" Timerra grinned, "And a one, and a two..." she began to sing, completely off beat, "Meat! Meat! Meaty meat meaaat..."

Just then, two bandits heard the sound. They came over, looking smug as one of them spoke, "what have we here? A bunch of pretty birds, squawking away in the night. Haha cheep-cheep."

His fellow bandit smirked, his eyes glancing at the ring on Timerra's finger; "Cheep-Cheep is right. Buts there's cheep about that ring that one has. Let's grab it."

"Meaty, Meaty, aw yeah!" Timerra sings as she swings side to side, "Meaty, meaty..."

The two bandits deadpanned. The first bandit snapped, "Hey, hey! Quit your cawing!"

It was then when Timerra turned to face the two bandits, a large grin appeared on her face, "Who're you two?"

"Come on. Wake up! What do you think?" The first bandit asked, "we're bandits. Bandits!"

"And what do bandits do? Take stuff!" The second bandit said as he waved his weapon at Timerra, "like your fancy ring there. Give it!"

Timerra placed a finger on her chin, acting like she just realize the situation, "ooh!"

"Oh? Oooh?!" The first bandit looked dumbfounded once again, "that's all? You're in trouble. Really in it. Right now!"

"In it and surrounded by it!" The second one sneered, "we're got monsters—big fans of ours. These two and way more!"

Behind them appeared two Corrupted, hissing and growling with weapons in hand. Making Timerra gasp slightly.

"So, we asked nicely, but you had to make us mad" the first bandit smirked, "now we'll do this our way!"

~

Fogado and Veyle's team followed smoke and the loud noise. The Prince of Solm smiled, "I saw a bonfire. That's gotta be her!"

"What were those strange sounds?" Asked Veyle. She really hopes no one was dying.

Fogado held back of laugh, but amusement clear in his voice, "Timerra and her friends singing"

Veyle yelped, hands over her mouth and blushed in embarrassment, "oh...sorry"

Fogado waved his hand, letting out the laugh he was holding in, "haha, don't worry about it. People call them the Racket of Solm for a reason." He then frowned when he heard clashing, "weird that they stopped. An attack, you think?"

Veyle frowned in worry, "let's get over there and find out"

~

Fogado and Veyle ran over to find Timmera and her retainers fighting off the Corrupted and bandits. Some were already defeated and dead but it seemed the more they take down, more spawn.

"Timerra!" Fogado called out to his older sister, making the female turn around.

"Oh! Hey Fogado." Timerra smiled, lance in hand.

"So, you're Princess Timerra, right?" Veyle smiled up at the female, "nice to meet you"

Before Veyle could speak more, Timerra placed a finger in her face, "don't tell me! You're the Divine Dragon, right? Fogado wouldn't have come here unless he'd found you first"

Veyle frowned a bit. Eyes narrowing in confusion, "he wouldn't have...what?" She mumbled to herself in confusion.

"Not important. We've got bigger steaks to roast" Timerra pointed her lance at the enemies ahead, "have to deal with these bandits, for a start!" She slid of her ring, the beautiful gold and silver shining in the moonlight. The blue gem standing out. She handed it towards Veyle, "it'd really help if you could use your summoning powers on this ring."

Veyle gently took the ring, she ran her fingers over the ring gently, "the Ring of the Radiant Hero."

"I've always wanted to meet the person who lives in here" Timerra grinned, "can you make that happen?"

Veyle nodded, "all right"

"Great!" Timerra cheered, "and a one, and a two..."

Veyle held the ring close to her chest, closing her eyes as she poured her Divine Dragon power into the ring, "Fight on, Emblem of Radiance!"

A dark blue light appeared. A man, likely like teens to early 20s, appeared. He had dark blue hair, a red cape, green bandanna and dressed in mostly leather. He had a more muscled build compared to the rest of the Emblems, seemingly also taller than the Emblems Veyle as seen so far.

"Dang, those arms" Timerra circled around the Emblem with a grin, "you're ready to fight!"

"I'm Ike." Ike, the Emblem, stated, "make sure you use me wisely"

"Thanks for your help, Ike" Veyle smiled at the Emblem, "you'll be fighting alongside Princess Timerra in this battle."

Ike nodded as Veyle handed back Timerra the ring, who slide it onto her finger where it once lay upon.

Everyone got into position. Veyle noticed the area was mostly dark, as to be expected at night time. The only visible parts were with torched. Meaning the enemies could easily hide within the darkness to surprised attack them.

~

"What's that? More?!" The first bandits asked his fellow bandit as he spotted Veyle's team arrived, "those cheep-cheep birds must've gone cawing for help! Phooey, That's what I say. They won't beat our monsters!"

"That's right" the second one nodded, "not to mention our thieves. Expert in the art or ransackery!"

Near a house, a Thief giggled, "ahahaha..." he eyed all the houses near.

~

Timerra saw the Thief roaming around thanks to the torches. Her eyes narrowed, "They're gonna attack the village. We have to stop them before anyone gets hurt." She looked at her retainers, "Merrin, Panette, come on!"

Merrin, who was riding on her wolf, nodded at Timerra. Steel dagger in hand, "as you command, my princess. We'll crush them with the hammer of justice."

Panette nodded, her fingers tight on her steel axe, "indeed! They shall sorely regret terrorizing these poor, innocent people!"

Both retainers went to Timerra's side. Veyle couldn't help but look in awe at the three. They felt so in sync, it was almost mesmerizing to see. She stared as the three rushed ahead into battle, already dealing with the bandits and Corrupted like they have done this a million times.

"Have to step up my game" Veyle huffed to herself as she turned to the group, "okay, we will split into small teams. We will split up and head towards different houses to make sure no bandits harm the villagers"

The group nodded and already pairing up into groups. Yunaka went over to Veyle, "say, why not team up? Always like hanging out with you, Divine One"

Alfred also went over, "care for one more? Three is always the perfect number"

Veyle nodded and smiled. She always likes being on teams with the two of them, "of course! Let's go!" She held onto her light time.

Thanks to Yunaka, who mostly was the one in front thanks to her amazing vision, lead them and warn them of Corrupted and bandits who tried to used the darkness as cover.

The Bandits and Corrupted were no trouble at all. Thanks to Tiki, Veyle has an easier time defeating the enemies.

Alfred mostly acted as support, making sure to shield Veyle and Yunaka from any surprised attacks that they might have not seen. Mainly Veyle since Yunaka is pretty swift on her feet and rarely ever was surprised by any attacks.

With Timerra and her retainers. They were near some old fencing and broken down supplies that the villagers had thrown away.

Ike, after using his sword to slice down some enemies, glanced over at the old junk, "the way forward is blocked. But not for long" he looked at Timerra, "Go, Timerra. With my strength, you'll have no problem in opening up a path."

"Are you saying what I think you're saying?!" Timerra grinned.

"Engage with me" Ike nodded as confirmation.

Timerra grinned wider, "of course!" With that, the ring began to glow, "Emblem Engage!" A light covered her body. White and gold clothes replaced her more colorful and playful one and her hair turned a dark blue that faded into light blue.

She summoned an axe that came from Ike. She flew up and smashed through the junk like it was toilet paper. Smashing it into little bits.

"That's my princess" Merrin cheered with a smile.

"Such power. No wonder why the Emblem is considered the strongest" Panette praised as she had a hand on her cheek.

Timerra went forward, slashing through more enemies. Merrin and Panette followed after, making sure to cover their princess from behind.

~

The first bandit grew impatient. Seeing his allies get slaughtered like sheep.

"You think the village will loot itself?!" He yelled at the remaining bandits that stayed behind, "get going!"

"Yeah! Start at that house there!" The second one pointed at a near by house.

A bandit nodded and ran over, breaking down the front entrance With not that much force. Making the family inside scream in fear.

"Yeah! Keep on pillaging, just like that!" The first bandit cheered with a smile.

"Haha, who's going to stop us?" The second one smirked, "Nobody!"

"Us you mean!" Chloé suddenly appeared behind them, slashing at the second bandit, sending him flying a few feet away.

"What?!" The two bandits yelling in shock.

They turned to see the bandit who broke down the house was taken down by Ivy, who send a magical blast his way. Killing the man instantly.

The first bandit growled, clutching his weapon, "nothing I hate worse than a meddler. You stick your nose in our business! You'll pay!"

He throw his weapon at Chloé, who dodge with such ease. Almost amusing he chosen to disarm hisself so quickly.

She flew forward and stabbed him in the shoulder, making him cry out in pain.

The second bandit saw and tried to run over to him, but Ivy got in his way. Making the man narrow his eyes at the Crown Princess of Elusia, "The oasis is ours, you hear? We've got exclusive plundering rights!"

He swum his weapon at Ivy, who flew out of range and blasted him with her magic. He blocked it with his weapon but got send back a bit.

Ivy followed up with another attack, using fire magic to burn his axe handle. Forcing him to drop it.

She then decided to use this opportunity to quickly finish the job by using wind magic combined with Lyn's arrows. They combined their attacks and cut through the second bandit with case.

The second bandit fell to the ground, coughing up blood, "Guess I let my brother down...again..." with that, he closed his eyes. Letting death take him away.

Icy then turned towards Chloé once she realized the second bandit was death. She noticed the fairy tale lover was locked into combat with the first bandit still.

Before Ivy could help, Merrin's dagger flown through the air and stabbing the first bandit in the lower leg, making him fall over in pain. The retainer ran over on her wolf.

"Are you hurt?" She asked Chloé.

Chloé stared at Merrin before blushing slightly, a smile on her face, "I am. Thank you. That was so very cool, like a knight in a fairy tale"

Merrin chuckled and rubbed the back of her head, "just doing my job" she looked at the first bandit, who was slowly getting back up, "May I?"

Chloé smiled and nodded, "go right ahead"

Merrin pulled out another dagger she had and quickly stabbed the bandit in the chest before he has a chance to react.

The first bandit's eyes widen as he realized he been stabbed near his heart. He coughed up blood. He then closed his eyes as he realized this was the end, "wasn't much of a big brother, was I?" With that, he collapsed to the ground.

~

After Ivy, Chloé and Merrin informed the others the main bandits are dead and the others cleaning up the corrupted and remaining bandits. Veyle, Ivy, Timerra and Fogado had met up.

"That's takes care of that. Sorry for ripping you into the scuffle, Divine One" Timerra gave a sheepish smile.

"That's all right" Veyle shock her head, "but i haven't had a chance to say why I'm here. I already explained this to Queen Seforia and Prince Fogado, but...The Fell Dragon has returned. He's back."

"Hm" Timerra married her eyes slightly. Almost in thought.

"It's sudden. I know." Veyle tried to be comforting, "you're probably shocked. I'm sorry."

"I already knew" Timerra shrugged, catching Veyle and Ivy off guard.

"You did?" Asked the Divine Dragon, eyes widen.

"Mom and Fogado did too" Timerra explained, "we've all known for a while now"

"Fogado, you too?" Veyle looked at the Prince of Solm. Something tells her she shouldn't be shocked by that.

"Sorry. Truth is, our chance meeting in Tullah Desert...wasn't totally by chance" Fogado rubbed the back of his neck.

Veyle's eyes narrowed slightly, "were you deceiving us?"

"The opposite, actually. I had to make sure that you weren't deceiving us" Fogado explained, "when the Fell Dragon returned, we had to take steps to protect our country."

Timerra stepped toward, "I'll lay it for you. The palace has scouts all over Elyos—keeping an eye on the three kingdoms. When Elusia brought back the Fell Dragon, we learned about it early on. But we couldn't beat him without the Emblem Rings—and we couldn't use them without you. Our only option was to force on defense." She said, "The Corrupted started appearing, so we had to quickly lay out a plan"

"And what was the plan?" Veyle asked her.

"First off, Mom would stay in the palace. She'd work with the royal guard to keep out intruders" Timerra said, "and we'd send out or own militia, the Sentinels, to bolster soldiers' efforts against the Corrupted."

"As Captain, my job was to watch out for the Corrupted near the Elysian border" Fogado stepped into the conversation, "if someone claimed to be the Divine Dragon, I'd size them up and bring them to the palace."

"That's why you hid the fact you're a Prince" Veyle nodded in understanding. She did wonder how many people did try to claim to be the her before. That is a question for later.

"I was in the Sentinels too. And I wandered the country, keeping our ring safe." Timerra said.

Veyle tilted her head, "as part of this plan, did you consider asking for another country's help?"

"No. Because then, we'd had to help them" Timerra shock her head, "we can't fight another country's battles. We're stretched thin fighting our own. That's how Solm does it. You scratch your own back, we'll scratch ours, thank you very much."

"I see" Veyle wasn't too keen on that answer but she can't argue with the results. Solm seems safe guarded.

Timerra bowed her head towards Veyle, "I'm sorry we misled you. But we did it to protect the Queendom."

Veyle shock her head, "I don't mean to criticize your country's way of doing things. I'm just surprised."

Timerra raised her head, "here's the most important part of the plan, though. If you did turn out to be the Divine Dragon, we'd give you the Ring of the Radiant Hero... and then tell you where to find our other Emblem Ring."

"Solm has a second ring?" Veyle's eyes widen as she recalled that Firene also had a hidden ring as well. She missed Micaiah.

"Yup. The Ring of the Crux of Fate." Timerra smiled, "it's in the—"

Just then, a Solm soldier came running. "Your Highness! A message from Solm Palace!" She said, out of breath.

Timerra turned, raising an eyebrow, "huh? What is it?"

"Hortensia, princess of Elusia, has breached the palace" the solider said. Shocking the royals around her.

"Oh...oh" Ivy shocked shock and disappointed. Eyes narrowed in wonder.

"What?? How did she get in?" Timerra's heart began to race, "we have to save mom!"

"Let's go" Veyle did waste no time in hurrying towards Solm Palace.
