Chapter 1: Awake at Last

Veyle's eyes slowly opened. A bright light hit her, "where am I...?"

In her view were two teenagers who look to be around her age. One was a girl in pink, she had a long braid with pink trips in it. The second was a boy who wore green. He had a tiny braid in his hair with green trips. Both had honey blonde hair and golden eyes.

Both gasped when they saw Veyle awoken, "whoa. Tell me you're seeing this!" The boy asked the girl.

Both backed up when Veyle rose up as she eyed the two in confusion, "hello there....who are you?"

"You're awake!" The Pink girl gasp. Making Veyle flinch back, "you're really awake, yeah?"

"You're the Divine Dragon Veyle!" The Green boy said. Just as surprised as the girl in Pink. Both not making this situation any less confusing for Veyle.

"No way!" The duo looked at each other slowly before cheering loudly, "The Divine Dragon is finally awake!"

Before Veyle could question anything, they both ran off and out of the room in a hurry. Almost tripping over their own feet.

Veyle blinked in confusion and worry. She removed herself from the bed and decided to take a look around the room.

The room was beautiful. White, light grays and blues. Even some flowers were on the bed in those colors. A small drawer near the bed. A piano was in the corner of the room near the door where the duo ran out of, a picture of a castle not too far from it.

Veyle saw a mirror in the room. She walked close to it and saw herself. Her hair was long, pretty must dragging on the floor. Her hair was a beautiful light grey color with dark blue streaks in it. Her left eye was purple while the right was blue. Her clothes were a beautiful white color dress with small blue lines trailing on it. The dress almost reminds her of a swan. She had a dark blue under shirt that goes up to her next. She didn't have any sleeves but she wore white gloves.

She also wore blue ankle high boots. Everything was surprisingly comfortable for her. She also noticed a golden ring on her finger with a baby blue gem in the middle. It felt special to her. Comforting even.

A good hour has gone by until the two people she saw earlier enter again. This time, with an older man who seemed to be in his 40s. Likely late since he looks to be pushing 50.

"Calm down. Calm down, you two" said the older man, "what's all this ruckus about?"

Veyle decided to walk over to them, maybe they can give her some answers, "um...hello?"

The older man was shocked to see Veyle awake. Taking a step back to steady himself, "Divine Dragon Veyle!" He catch his breath, "It's a miracle. An utter miracle. The Divine one, awake at long last..."

He put his hand over his face, tears from joy threaten to spill, "that I might live to see you standing before me. What an honor"

Veyle frowned slightly at the man. Worried as she tried to comfort the older man, "please don't cry...um...what is your name?"

The older man gain control of himself. Rubbing his eyes to whip any tears before looking at the girl, "ah! Apologies. I lost myself for a moment there" he bowed his head towards Veyle, "my name is Vander. I am the 32nd Steward of the Dragon"

"Nice to meet you, sir Vander" Veyle gave an awkward smiled towards the man in question.

Vander immediately shook his head, "oh my, Divine one! There is no need to address me as such. Simply 'Vander' will do"

The Pink girl smiled at up at Vander, "see! I told you the Divine Dragon was awake!"

The Green boy gave a grin, "yeah! We were telling the truth!"

Veyle looked at the two colorful individuals, "who are you two?"

The boy in green gave a sheepish smile, "oh, sorry! We were so excited we forgot to introduce ourselves" he rub the back of his head, "we're the 33rd Steward of the Dragon! My name's Clanne. Pleased to meet you"

"And I'm Framme! We're twins" The girl in pink smiled at Veyle, "we've been waiting forever for you to wake up!"

'Forever?' Veyle thought to herself. Felt like an exaggeration on Framme's part but a part of her felt like it's not a complete lie.

Vander sense Veyle's confusion. He spoke up to explain, "As Stewards of the Dragon, our missions are to provide and protect you. Generation after generation of our predecessors waited for you to raise from your slumber" he explain, "I'll admit, I am astonished to see it has finally happened"

He continued to speak, "you see, a thousand years have passed since the first steward took their post"

"A thousand years?" Veyle asked out loud, it didn't felt that long but then again. You can't tell time when you are asleep, "that's how long I've been asleep?"

"Indeed. Your mother—Lumera, The Divine Dragon Monarch—has long awaited for this day" Vander said to Veyle, "finally, a Divine Dragon yourself, have awakened. This surely signifies great things"

Veyle felt overwhelmed. The name 'Lumera' felt so familiar to her, but she can't put a face to the name. And being called a 'Divine Dragon' felt right and also wrong at the same time. It felt like a lot.

"Woah..." Veyle shock her head, "this..this monarch is my mother? And I am a Divine dragon?"

"Oh dear, is your memory hazy, Divine one?" Vander looked at Veyle pity.

Veyle gave a slow nod, "I just remember my name...but..that's about it.."

"You can't remember anything else?" Clanne's eyes widen.

Framme shock her head, "maybe you're just feeling groggy 'cause of all that sleep?"

Veyle looked down at the ground. She didn't know who or what she was. Who Lumera was. She felt like she should. She felt like a failure. Defect. Defect. Defect. Defect. Defect.

Vander sensed Veyle's uneasiness, he spoke up, "Fret not. Such lapses in memory are to be expected after sleeping for a long time" he sympathizes, "if I may...you are a Divine Dragon, a member of a royal family of dragons revered as deities. Queen Lumera, the Divine Dragon Monarch, rules over the Holy Land of Lythos. In the war a thousand years ago, she defeated and imprisoned the wicked Fell Dragon. You, Divine one, are her only child"

"The war, the Fell Dragon...." Veyle mumble to herself. It feels like she should remember about it but she can't.

"Please, don't trouble yourself trying to bring it all back at once" Vander tried to comfort Veyle, "you memories will return in return in time. You are a being of immense power—a deity no less. I heard many tales of your kindness, nobility, and bravery. Your unflinching heroism."

"That's a lot to live up to..." Veyle sweatdroped. Giving a wary smile.

Vander gave a small nod, "for now, let us head to Lythos Castle. Queen Lumera will be thrilled to see you. Perhaps the reunion will help stir your memories"

"I hope so" Veyle nodded in agreement.

"Ok, then! Onward and downward!" Clanne smiled in excitement.

"To Lythos Castle!" Framme punch the air.

~
The group walk among the grass. A beautiful rocky landscape surrounded them. The sun was warm and comforting, the air was fresh. Almost like a dream land. Veyle was almost convinced she was in a dream.

"All this time, I been sleeping in the sky?" Veyle asked the Stewards, who explained where they are.

"You have, yes" Vander said, almost amused at Veyle's surprised, curious and joyful expression, "the place you slumber was known as the Sommiel. A fortress built upon an airborne island to ensure your safety. It is perhaps the most secure place in all of Elyos. Only a select few can set foot there"

Veyle gave a nod of understanding, "and...you three lived there with me?"

Framme nodded, "Yep! As Stewards, we spend our time caring for you and managing things around the Sommiel. It's a sacred place, so we work as hard as we can keep it shipshape!"

"Royal members visit us all the time!" Clanne said before giving a sheepish grin, "Well, visit you, really. The Prince and Princess of Firene—a deeply religious country—visit especially often"

"They pray next to you, like this" Framme showed Veyle the praying pose. Having her hands together, lowering her head and closing her eyes, "then they just...talk for a while. Like they're chatting to a friend"

Veyle gave a small nod and smiled, "I see. Thanks for filling me in, Framme. You too, Clanne"

Framme immediately cried out in joy, jumping up and down in excitement, "ah! The Divine One said our names! And thanked us!"

"I think I'm going to faint.." Clanne shock with joy, "unless I already did. Am I dreaming?"

Vander coughed as he got the twins attention, speaking sternly, "May I remind you that you are in the presence of the Divine Dragon! How many times to I need to tell you to behave in a manner befitting your station?"

He looked over at Veyle, an apologetic look fell onto his face, "Divine One, please forgive this embarrassing breach of decorum"

Veyle laughed softly, "it's fine. I enjoy their enthusiasm"

Framme blushed as she smiled, giggling softly, "you're just as kindhearted as I always imagined!"

~

Eventually, the group saw the Lythos Castle in the distance. The whites and blues shimmered from the sun above.

"Oh, look, there it is!" Clanne pointed at the castle ahead.

Veyle was in awe at its beauty. She wasn't even near it but the beauty of it made her felt unworthy of even looking at it, "The....Divine Dragon Monarch is there, you said?"

"Yes. I suppose a thousand years have passed since you last been home" Vander had noted.

Framme chirped up with a wide grin, "don't worry. We'll be right there with you"

"You can hold my hand if you like" Clanne offered, a bit shyly.

Veyle gave a soft smile, "th-thank you" when she was about to offer her hand to Clanne, she saw the ring again on her finger. She completely forgotten that she had it on for a moment.

She decided to ask about it, "how long have I been having this ring for?" Her eyes shinned onto the beautiful baby blue stone that shined in the light, almost giving it a teal look, "the blue stone....it reminds me of something..."

Before anyone could answer or continue to speak. A rough growl was heard from the distance. Everyone turned to see people dressed in some rough skin and weird helmets that cover their faces. They don't seem like people, or at least not anymore by the way that act.

Veyle gasped at the sight of them. Flinching back as the monsters began to creep up on them. The Stewards pulled out their respective tools. Framme a healing staff, Clanne a fire tome, Vander an iron axe.

"Wh-What are those horrible things?!" Framme asked as she hold her healing staff close to her.

"Vander...are..are creatures like this common around here?" Asked Veyle as she turned to the man.

Vander shock his head, remaining on guard, "they're not. I never seen them. Nor have I heard of such monsters appearing in Lythos before. This is a land of peace"

"Understood...Well..." Veyle needed to make a choice and needed to fast.

"Shall we fight then?" Vander asked the Divine Princess, "as you wish, Divine One! You whose bravery knows no equal"

"No, let's run" Veyle stopped him.

"Huh?"

"We haven't the slightest idea who they are...and we don't know how they came to be here..."Veyle told Vander, "and...they worry me for some reason..so, we run"

"I, er, well..." Vander felt conflicted. He wanted it fight but he can't ignore a order from Veyle, "Did the Divine Dragon really command me to retreat"

"Ok! Get to safety!" Framme said. Fighting through her own fear.

"Well keep them distracted for you!" Clanne stated as he and Framme both charged ahead to the monsters.

"What the..!" Vander gasped as he saw the two kids run into danger, "Come back! Come back this instant!"

One of the monsters jumped in the air, landing right in front of Clanne. It's axe cutting the ground before raising it to knock Clanne's fire tome out of his hand.

"Ah! Oh no!" Clanne gasped when the tome landed out of his reach.

"Uh! This isn't looking great good..." Framme stated as the monsters began to surround her and her twin. Ready to kill them in an instant.

"Clanne! Framme!" Veyle cried out to the two. She felt this was her fault for not choosing to fight.

"Hold on! We shall come to you!" Vander said as he and Veyle began to head towards to the twins, even if Veyle's better judgment said to run and hide.

When they got closer to the monsters, Vander looked at Veyle, "Divine one! Stay back—it's too dangerous!"

"Clanne and Framme were trying to protect me" Veyle said, before pleading with Vander, "I have to help them. I take back what I said—this is no time to run. Please, let me fight"

Vander didn't argue further, he knew he also needed help to rescue the twins, "alright...but stay on your guard"

"I will" Veyle nodded. With that, both began making their way to the twins.

Veyle realized she had a light tome hanging by her hip. She took it, the label on the book said 'Divine' on it. Guess it was somewhat fitting.

Veyle manage to take down some monsters but sometimes she couldn't help but let out a squeal and flinch back if they got a bit too close. She hated looking at them, being near them. But she can't understand why.

But luckily, no one really notice. Likely because they are busy with their own fights to deal with.

"There are too many of them.." Framme punched a few of the monsters, she seemed to be physically strong for someone her age, "Divine One, get outta here!"

When she let her guard down for a second, one of the monsters ended up hitting Framme with its axe. Sending her back.

"Framme!" Veyle cried out. Time was running out to get closer to them.

"Framme, are you alright?" Asked Clanne, rushing over to the girl's side.

"Clanne, Framme, it's not safe to you here! Retreat to the castle!" Ordered Vander as he sliced down the monsters who come at him.

The twins nodded, before running towards the castle. Some of the monsters following behind them. Some more on the monsters spawning in the distance.

"More enemies" Vamder's eyes narrowed. Just when it felt like like they were clearing the already existing ones.

"They just keep coming..." Veyle felt so lost, so helpless, "you're all trying to protect me. I should be protecting you! If only I could...somehow..."

Suddenly, Veyle heard a young woman's voice, "Veyle..."

"Huh?" Veyle's eyes widen as she looked around. The voice sounded so familiar.

"You must remember, Veyle..."

"Who...Who said that?" Veyle eyed around before looking at her ring. She felt a sense of power coming from it, "the ring..."

The female voice returned. A sense of familiarity came to her, "know that my strength can be yours."

"I know that voice.." Veyle mumbled to herself as the voice spoke more clearly to her.

Familiar words came to her, "if ever we cross paths again, I hope you will remember me. Indeed, that you will remember all of us who took up arms to fight by your side"

"The 12 emblems..." Veyle said. The words hit her like a brick and a sense of strength filled her body.

"Divine One?" Vander asked when he saw Veyle zone out for a moment.

Veyle then started running towards monsters. Full speed and no hesitation. She isn't afraid this time.

Vander gasped when he saw Veyle ran ahead into danger, "Divine One! You mustn't do this alone!"

"Don't worry! Please! I'm not alone!" Veyle looked back at Vander for a moment before looking foward as she spoke to the ring, "help me. Lend me your strength in this fight!"

She raised her left hand, the one with the ring on it, "Reignite us, Emblem of Awakening !"

A teal light was flashed. When cleared, a young woman, likely in her late teens to early 20s, appeared. She wore a blue robes, boots, a scarf and a cape. Her long blue hair fell over her shoulders and her golden crown and Falcon sword glitter in the sun.

"You may call me Lucina, but others also know me as Emblem Lucina" Emblem Lucina spoke up as she smiled proudly as Veyle's

Both nodded at each other before changing at one of the monsters. Emblem Lucina was the first to attack. Her Falcon sword stick at the monster, who blocked with its axe.

Veyle used her magic to force the monster to jump back to avoid being it. Emblem Lucina charged again to attack, the monster acted on the defect and jumped and dodge before switching to an attack.

The monster swung its axe at Veyle and Emblem Lucina, who dodge and blocked like it was little effort.

The duo nodded at each other, choosing to attack as one. Veyle shot magic at the monster; managing to hit in before Emblem Lucina jumped into the air, slicing down at the monster. Cutting him in half to end the battle.

"That was amazing!" Framme cried out as she watched the whole thing in amazement.

"Cool!" Clanne said in just as much awe. A blush of admiration appeared on his face.

Veyle smiled at Emblem Lucina, "we did it! Thank you so much, Lucina. Truly! I don't know how to repay you"

Emblem Lucina chuckled softly at Veyle, "no need to owe me anything. It's good to see you" she smiled softly, "I was able to answer your call, because you remember me"

Vander watched from a distance, eyes widen, "Do my eyes deceive me...or is that an Emblem of legend?"

Veyle turned to see some of the last few of the monsters remain, clearly not willing to back down just because Emblem Lucina showed up. In fact, they seem more eager to fight.

"Clanne! Framme! Get to safety, now!" She ordered the twins.

"Uh, right!" Both of them said as they took their items and ran off to the forest, hiding among the many trees.

Emblem Lucina and Veyle got their weapons ready. Ready to face the monsters.

"With your help, Lucina, we might just make it" Veyle looked at Emblem Lucina, "will you join us?"

"Of course. I will fight alongside you from here foward—your ally, until the very end" Emblem Lucina nodded in agreement.

Both girls began to fight, with Vander's assistants. Now it felt like a piece of cake. Emblem Lucina strength was clearly beyond what anyone could imagine.

It was a breeze to defeat the remaining monsters. Much to the relief of everyone, mainly Veyle.

When the battle was cleared, the twins came out slowly. Once no monster was in sight, they ran over to the trio.

"Divine One! Vander! Thanks for saving us" Framme smiled at the two.

"Yeah. And uh...sorry. This all happened because we ran ahead" Clanne rubbed his cheek with his finger.

"I'm the one who should apologize" Veyle shock her head, "you put yourselves in danger because of me. It's such a relief you're both safe now..."

Vander stiffen up, getting in front of Clanne and Framme, "Divine one, I hear more enemies approaching!"

A small group of monsters came. Not as many as before still outnumber them by some.

"More? I thought we got them all..." Veyle stepped back.

"Evidently not" Vander said as he got ready to continue to fight, "these creatures...will there be no end to them?"

Veyle hissed when the monsters began to charge in. Until there was a largue shadow above her and the group. She looked up to see a blue and silver dragon. It was beautiful but just as terrifying.

"They got a dragon?!" Veyle gasped as she tripped and fell onto her bottom from the shock alone.

The dragon began charging up a beam. Veyle raised her arm to protect herself but to her shock, the dragon aimed at the monsters. Killing them instantly.

Veyle gasped and breath heavily as she dragon flew down. In a golden light, it turned into a woman who looked to be in her 20s. She was beautiful. She had light blue hair and eyed. She had a white dress and a golden crown and cape: some pink and red accessories were across her dress.

"At last, you are awake" the woman smiled softly as Veyle, who looked up at her in confusion and awe.

The woman went to the ground and went over to Veyle, who is standing up. The woman asked, "is it really you, Veyle?"

Veyle felt awkward. She felt like she knew this woman but can't put her finger on it, "Y-Yes, it's me...thank you for saving us"

"What a joy it is to see you, Veyle" The woman said softly. Before Veyle could question her, the woman brings Veyle into a hug, "I've waited for so long! When I sensed you have awaken, I flew here as fast as my wings would carry me. I hope your not hurt"

When the woman finally let Veyle go. Veyle could finally breathe a bit, "I'm...I'm fine"

"What a relief! You cannot understand how much I've missed you, my dear daughter" Lumera gave a kind and warm smile to Veyle.

Veyle let out a small gasp of realization, "oh! You're...my mother"

"What's the matter?" Lumera asked, confused before the realization dawned on her. Her eyes went from confusion to concern to sadness, "don't tell me..."

"Since awakening, The Divine One's memory is clouded" Vander stepped in to explain.

"Oh! I see" Lumera tried to hold back her sadness and pity.

"I'm..i'm sorry. I'm sure you weren't expecting this" Veyle felt sorry for Lumera. She didn't mean to bring the woman harm.

"No. I must apologize" Lumera shock her head, "I was so overcome with joy, I hugged you as hard as I could" she sighed, "I take this to mean you've forgotten...everything. I suppose this was to be expected. A thousand years is a very long time"

"Vander explained that I've been sleeping since...since some war and that happened back then" Veyle told Lumera.

Lumera nodded, her face falling slightly at the memory, "Yes. You suffered a terrible wound. And...and because of that..."

Veyle understood, "you don't have to explain any further..." she shock her head, "it's just...very confusing. I don't know anything about this world or what happened....i'm just...lost"

Lumera gave Veyle an understanding nod, "Don't fret, young one. I will speak to you of all you've forgotten. Regardless of what you remember. I'm simply glad to have you back, my dear daughter"

"Still...this isn't the reunion you hoped for" Veyle felt guilty. She truly wanted to remember Lumera and the moments they shared together. It ate at her to not remember.

Lumera gave a small laugh, "oh, don't worry about me. It's solace enough just to hear that sweet voice of yours! And to gaze one more into your eyes. What lovely colors they are, Veyle"

Me: and first official chapter! Hope you guys liked it

Ayla: honestly, I am quite pleased with how it turned out! Also more Lucina moments!

Me: I hope in giving her and Veyle more fluff moments as the story goes on. Lucina is one of my favorite characters along with Veyle. So I want them to interact more

Cherry: I wonder, whoever plays engage: which emblem did you pair up with Veyle the most?

Me: for me, it's Tiki and Lucina. Fun fact: originally I was going to give Tiki to Veyle but since she is dlc exclusive and I also eventually plan on doing the dlc. Am saving that duo for later. Anyways—
