You'd been by Lyn's side since the first day, when you awoke in her home. After then, you proceeded to help her fend off bandits and rogues. But then came that fateful day, the day you met the two cavaliers: Kent and Sain. You had nothing against these two, quite the opposite in fact, but a certain one of these two would spend his days trying to impress you with pick-up lines and little phrases, hoping to make you smile. Sain, the well-known flirt who would spend hours trying to catch the eyes of any girls near him, which was usually you or Lyn. Kent, on the other hand, was very serious towards doing his job right and didn't appreciate the way his partner would rather flirt than fight, even going as far as calling him "hopeless". But Sain didn't care, until one day.

<FLASHBACK>
You were peacefully taking a walk in the meadows, listening to the beautiful sound of birds tweeting as the cool breeze refreshed you. You took a deep breath, breathing in the fresh air. The world was so peaceful, it seemed to stand still for you. No one was around, no wars being fought, just you and the birds. After a short while of peace, the grass started to mysteriously rustle behind you, as if there was movement in it. You felt a tap on your shoulder, so naturally, you turned around. There behind you was the flirt, Sain. He was holding something in his hand, you could tell, as he held it behind his back.

"Hello, Milady. What is such a beautiful maiden like yourself doing out here, alone?" He smirked flirtatiously.

"It doesn't concern you, Sain..." He smiled slightly.

"Indeed it does, ____." His smirk grew bigger. "Which reminds me..." In the hand which he was holding behind his back, he was holding a red rose. He handed it to you, smiling. "This is for you, Milady~"

You took the rose from Sain's hand and smiled.

"Thank you, Sain. This is very thoughtful of you." You thanked him politely.

Sain grinned, closing the gap between you and him.

"Anything for you, ____."

Surprised, you stepped back a little. You had noticed that Sain was being the usual flirty Sain but now... he was being seriously flirty! The only problem was, you didn't feel the same way for him.

"S-Sain... what are you-"

"Relax, Milady. I'm here now~" He placed his hand on your shoulder.

"Sain, I'm sorry but..." You looked away. "I don't like you like that... You're just a great friend, but not like..." You sighed, realising you had broken the cavalier's heart. "I'm sorry..."

"Milady...? You don't..." He looked down at his feet. "It's okay... I-I'm sure I can find someone else..." His voice became shaky, as if he was about to cry. "I understand..."

You smiled a little, hoping to make him feel better.

"I hope you do understand Sain... But we can still be good friends!"

"Friends... Right..." He sighed. "I need to g-go, Kent may need m-me..." With that, he turned around and left you. The last thing you heard was a sob before he disappeared.

<END OF FLASHBACK>

You had officially made the worst mistake of your entire life. After rejecting poor Sain, you somehow developed a small crush of him, which became increasingly bigger with every look of him and every word he said. But whenever you saw him, he'd be flirting with yet another girl, even a maiden from one of the villages near where you were currently situated. And every time you saw him with another female companion, you thought the same thought: "That could've been me..."

Whilst you were out, once again enjoying the cool breeze and the peace, you heard footsteps from behind you. You turned around to see Sain once again, giving you a serious sense of déjà vu.

"Oh Sain, hello." You smiled at him. "What a pleasant surprise to see you here."

"Hello (y/n)..." He smiled a little. You noticed that he was holding something behind his back. No, this couldn't be happening... There was no way that-

"I wanted to give you this." He handed a red rose, much like the one from months before. "I was wondering, Milady, if..." He sighed. "We could start again, and we could possibly-"

You cut him off by throwing your arms around his neck.

"I'm sorry, Sain! I didn't mean to reject you!" You started sobbing, burying your head into the crook of his neck. "I-I hope you still love me..."

Sain held you closer to him, stroking your hair.

"Milady, it's fine. I always loved you, over every other girl..." He chuckled slightly. "I only flirted with them to make you jealous."

You chuckled a little, before wiping your eyes and looking up at Sain.

"Sain... I love you more than you'll ever know. You mean everything to me!" You smiled.

Sain smiled back as his arms snaked around your waist.

"Milady, I'm honoured to have you as my girl. I will do everything I can to protect you."

With that, he pushed his lips up against yours. You kissed back, your eyes tightly closed. This was you and Sain's moment, and no one would change it. Unfortunately, you remembered that you both needed to breathe, so you pulled away, your arms still wrapped around Sain's neck as his were around your waist.

"Milady... How would you like to go for a walk later on? Just me and you~" He smiled.

"I'd love to, Sain. But first-" Your stomach rumbled. "I need to eat!"

Sain chuckled.

"I understand." He took your hand. "Let's go back and get something to eat."

And there you were, holding hands with the guy you had rejected months before. He'd forgiven you, he wanted to protect you and overall, he still loved you.

Who knew déjà vu could be so helpful?!

<Extended Ending>

You and Sain set off for your nighttime walk, laughing together, talking and having quality time with each other. He was holding your hand extremely tightly, almost as if he'd never let you go. A few yards in front of you was a beautiful patch of grass and flowers, the perfect place for you two to sit, which you did.

"Sain, I'm so happy you've forgiven me." You lay your head on his shoulder. "This time we spend together means so much to me."

Sain smiled at you, wrapping an arm around you.

"As it does to me, Milady. Every second, minute and hour we spend together means the world to me." He replied, kissing your cheek. "And I love you."

"I love you too, Sain." You smiled back.

As you rested your head on Sain's shoulder, you smiled to yourself and drifted to sleep.

Sain looked at you and smiled, blushing slightly.

"She looks so peaceful, so beautiful~" He wrapped his arms tightly around your waist and pulled you into his lap.

"I swear I will protect you Milady, I will protect you with life... You are too great a beauty to be lost."

Sain such a romantic guy, I had to give him quite a few romantic lines.
