3: Mystery
"Wow, that is one really long drop..."
I gaze over a cliff edge to see a black river. The moonlight makes it so I can just dimly make out the rocks in the river. Although I can't see them, the the faint churn of the water reminds me of the roaring rapids. I start to regret coming out here on a whim and not even with torches. I got this though, if I'm careful enough I can still hit a rock with an ender pearl.
As I reach for a pearl, I hear a groan behind me. So I instead pull out my sword as I turn to face the monsters. Looking at the small horde, I laugh and raise my sword. "Goodness, you guys are even less scary than Stella when I first met her."
Running forward, I leap up and my blade slices through a zombie's head. I flip to the side, kicking down a skeleton. Landing softly and quickly back-stepping to avoid an incoming spider. I slam my sword into it once there's an opening. I lean back as an arrow flies above me. My feet pound against the ground as a launch myself at the skeleton, my sword cuts through it and into the one behind it.
I hear two hisses; one is a creeper to my left and the other is a spider to the right. I smile wide and roll forward as the spider pounces. Missing me, it lands on the creeper's face. I laugh at the sight before the explosion kills them both. If only Axel was here to see that. He would love this!
The happy smile fades and I grab an ender pearl. I jog back to the cliff and study the river below. Focusing on the gray patch, I carefully aim the ender pearl, positioning myself perfectly. I chuck it into the darkness, and only then do a hear a faint hiss behind me.
Before I could whip my sword around, I am thrown into the valley like my ender pearl. Wow, this feels like the time I got pushed off Sky City. Thankfully my armor held up, probably can't take hits like-
A hard wet surface is under me, and nausea slams into my stomach. So disorienting... falling and teleporting is NOT a good mix.
The nauseous sensation dwindles when I realize that I hit the rock. That I, Jesse, who at one point couldn't hit Magnus with an egg 20 blocks away in full daylight, perfectly hit a murky rock in the middle of a river 60 blocks up at night. Accomplishment swells up inside me along with a well-earned pride.
I try to make out anything in the darkness, yet again regretting not that I didn't bring a torch. I spot a bank to my side that I could throw to. I brace myself for the teleport, and manage not to get nauseous because of it.
A jolt of joy zips through me as I feel what I sit on. This bank is entirely clay! I give a whoop of joy and pull out my shovel.
Yes! This makes this problem so much easier! And if this luck continues then I should have enough clay and be back by dawn. Now the citizens won't be able to complain about anything and everything will be smooth sailing.
Only when my shovel is broken and I've eaten most of my food, do I finally finish. Satisfied that my amount of clay is sufficient, I grab my last ender pearl. It takes longer to throw this one though. I am weary at this point and finding it very hard to stay coordinated. Yet, I manage to lob the ender pearl onto the cliff...
Only to suddenly find myself in the middle of the large horde that formed above me.
I immediately duck down, dodging both an arrow and a spider. I pull out my sword and slam it into whatever is closest to me. Jerking it out, I quickly spin in circles, slicing any mob that's within the reach of my sword.
My vision sways and I have to stop. A lucky skeleton uses the opportunity to drive an arrow into my left shin. Bellowing, I launch into the air after the skeleton. My sword thrusts into the bone pile and it instantly turns to smoke.
I whirl around cutting into whatever is next to me. An enderman lets out a shriek, and poofs away. Roll with the punches Jesse, just roll with the punches.
I turn preparing to strike through a creeper. The enderman's arm pops in front of me and slams into my chest. It disappears and my armor dents as I fall into the ground. I quickly roll to the side, attempting to-
BOOM!
I crash into a tree, my sword flying away, and gravity slowly peels me off. My body lands with thud, leaving me incredibly breathless and drained. My head weighted with blocks of iron and the world tilts up and down. I try to focus, my fear clamoring that mobs are all around me, but all I can see is blurry shapes.
While crawling back up, a spider pushes against my back and pins me down. Getting a firm grip on it, I start tugging it off. Only to feel agonizing pain rip through my arm in a form of an arrow. I scream out, and panic rapidly builds.
The spider tears apart my weakened armor, digging into the soft flesh. Fear forces me to roll over, squashing the pest. Another jumps upon me, and the sounds of groans getting closer fires unbearable emotions through my exhausted body.
Panic, fear, dread, anxiety, hopelessness, terror pound in my head all shrieking at me. Move! Move! Move! Move or DIE! I scramble to push off the spider, and I stagger to my feet. My left leg collapses, and I tumble in agony into a zombie. Fists beat against the armor, making it crumple and tear.
Darkness crawls in my vision, concealing the other approaching monsters. I can only feel dull sensations vibrate throughout me. Wow, the irony. After taking down enemies with all the odds stack against me this is what I fall to. I guess this is what happens when my friends are striped away from me. Total failure...
A spark ignites in my dying body. An energy well springs forth, bringing back my dead determination. The energy is like electricity, empowering yet chaotic. I've killed humongous Witherstorms, conquered the legendary Old Builders, and defeated an powerful Admin. I have done too many great adventures to be beaten by some brainless pests! I'm Jesse! A couple of mobs can't kill me!
A livid rage burns that energy, and I explode up. I jump onto the back of a zombie, and all my pain fades underneath the wave of fury. Sounds become a buzz in my ears, and my vision sharpens.
I flip over the other zombies, and my legs are finally able to hold me up. A creeper approaches from the right, turning white with pressure. I seize the bulging creeper and whirl it around. It hurls into the cluster of stupid nuisances, obliterating them. Roaring, I continue to plough through zombies and skeletons, Axel style. Cold shock zips through my nerves, as midnight arms encage and lift me.
"You are NOT going to get me again you black menace!" My crazed rage blazes inside of me, and it bursts free. Green flames shoots out, incinerating the mob instantly. I land and the fire swirls around me, illuminating me in the darkness. The grass around the flames dies, and the air fills with the crisp scent of burning grass.
The monsters still pursue me, adding more fuel to my wrath. The green fire swells up, and launches through the air. All the pests burn to a crisp, and puff into smoke. Yet my fury doesn't die with them. It heightens, and raises the fire above the tree tops. I howl in my victory, and pride now flows through my veins.
The flames come back to me circling my tattered armor. I must look so epic right now. Battle wounds, broken armor, and a spooky green fire surrounding me. Wait... green flames.
My anger and accomplishment die out, as I stare at the flames emitting from my skin. The fire dwindles and returns inside of me. A fire which corresponds with my rage. And the mysterious energy that fueled my muscles and killed my pain vanished with the fire. Panic consumes me as I think about this new problem.
So what springs from what? Where did that energy come from and is it related to the fire? Is that what caused my anger to become so intense? The moment it sparked it completely demolished any will to even consider any other possibility. Will I turn into a wild beast that rains fire when I get slightly annoyed? Oh gosh... what will happen to me? Ugh, I don't know anything...
I groan, tilting my head back and sighing to the sky. Where the moon is steadily sinking into the horizon.
I can think up a solution to this later, but one step at a time. I first got to get back to Beacontown and fix myself up in order to do anything. Then, instead of handling the labor of building a wall myself, I bet I can make a trade with Stella to have some of her people do it. Which will leave time for me to figure this out. I definitely need a lot of time.
I look back up at the moon, realizing I won't be making it back by dawn. However, the calm night sky soothes me, and for the first time in awhile, I'm in a bliss.
Then that moment ends, as my weariness and pain catches up to me. I whimper as my lungs painfully press up against broken ribs, making them move and crackle. My left shin and right arm burn with the arrowheads still stuck inside them. My entire back stings where the spider clawed into me. Exhaustion makes all my bones ache under the weight and pressure they've had to deal with for the past days. The bruises all throughout my body pulsate a dull pain.
The darkness begins to crawl into my vision again, and my entire being seems to be getting heavier. No... I am getting back to town and then I can faint from exhaustion. Just get back to town, that's all you have to do.

"Hey Jesse, it's been..." I quickly scan the hall and find no Jesse. Confusion pickles in me as I stare at the empty room. I was told Jesse hasn't come out today, and I thought he does most of his work in here...
Suspicion bubbles up inside as I start to worry as well. I peek at a clock on the wall, symbolic to the one Romeo created. It's a little past dawn. My worry slips away, as I come to the conclusion that Jesse overslept.
Although, I can't remember anytime he has overslept. Usually he takes his responsibilities way too seriously for that. But not one citizen has seen him out today. My suspicion only grows and my curiosity piques.
I make my way up the steps and to his room. I stop though when I notice the lever on the wall. If memory serves correctly, when this lever is activated it should display Jesse's armors and sword. So if he isn't here his sword will definitely be gone, perhaps even an armor set.
Flicking the lever down, I center myself on the platform. As the armor rises, one is gone. I whip my head around and glare at the area where Jesse's sword is suppose to be.
Groaning, I turn my head towards the heavens. "Where did you run off to this time Jesse?" I'm confident that Jesse can take care of himself, but suspicion boils inside me.
It couldn't have been easy to sneak out of town when you're the hero of the city. Especially when that city is Beacontown, active even late at night. Why go through all the trouble? Even if it's something personal, why not tell someone? I turn back to his room, determined to find clues to Jesse's disappearance.
A brief sound of pistons going off vibrates through the air. It was so muffled even a normal conversation would have completely drowned it out.
I quickly scurry behind a pedestal that conceals me from the doors. I narrow my eyes, waiting for Jesse to come out to put away his armor. The doors open, a muffled grunt even wafts through the air. When the doors close, I stand up and make my way to Jesse
"Jesse, where have..."
I choke on my words the moment I lay eyes on Jesse.

Yay! Finished... again.
Yep, this was one that got deleted when I wanted to get rid of the copy Wattpad created. I'm pretty proud of how well everything turned out. Since at least half of it was me furiously crushing my poor keyboard.
I'm sorry computer for taking my rage out on you when you did nothing wrong.
Anyway, while I'm releasing my anger in healthier ways, why don't you go read some more?
