1: Exhaustion
Every person grows throughout their life. Extracting knowledge, skill, strength, and wisdom from all of their actions and experiences. Becoming better people as they become strong individuals. And yet, there has never been such a legendary hero who has started from the most humble of origins. Who's soul has grown and learned so much that the body itself also grew into a more powerful form.
...
"Thanks for the help Jesse!"
I turn around and wave good-bye back to the citizen. I start to walk past the colorful buildings of Beacontown, heading towards the Order Hall. Oh gravel, that took much longer than I expected. It should be fine though, I already finished the paperwork for today. I can have the rest of the day to relax as long-
"Jesse dude!" Oh squid eggs.
I glance to see Nell walking down her house to come and greet me. Obviously with the attention to talk to me, and hopefully only to talk.
"Nell, you're back from visiting Em!" Forcing energy and enthusiasm into my weary voice and a smile onto my tired face. "So, what's the games like now that Otto has complete control over them?"
"Duuuuude you shoulda seen it! The energy in that place is through the roof!" Nell throws her arms up and starts to walk in circles, as if the mere act of remembering fills her with energy. Gosh, it is really tiring to talk to Nell. I wish Lukas were here instead, he is so much more fascinating and calm minded.
"All the competitors are actually like happy man! And there are no people going to the mines, it was always so depressing seeing those guys. Ooh, and Otto totally gives out way more food. It is like cake and bread galore!"
"That's great! What about Em? Is she living it up as head gladiator?" Gravel, I wish Axel were here. He would be able to turn Nell away without hurting her feelings.
"Big Em has totally changed dude! She's like happy now too, and she helps out the underdogs now instead of like picking on them! Em was even stoke to see me, ME! She didn't really like me a whole lot when we were a team. As head gladiator she is now like super-"
"That's great Nell, it really is. But I need to head back to the Order Hall, I've had a long day and I really need some rest."
"That's totally fine Jesse dude! But hey, I wanna let you know that I was picking up some seriously negative vibes about spaceage here. Apparently people are complaining about stuff being overcrowded."
"Thanks for letting me know Nell, see ya." With that, I turn away. No longer caring about hurting her feelings, I need time to think about this new problem alone.
Why do people here just assume that I know these problems and will fix them before anyone actually comes up and tells me about it? I'm sure most people are already fed with this problem and already except a solution.
I sigh, my thoughts swirling downward.
If only Lukas and the others were here. He would have split apart the problem by now and I would assign them to different people. Petra or Axel would make some joke about people being so frustrating or annoying. Olivia would get annoyed and force them back on track. While me and Lukas would just smile and laugh at the exchange.
The order door closed with a thud behind me. All the treasures glimmer now as the sunset's light hit them perfectly. Some items here were gifts given to us and a way of saying thank you for whatever the Order did. Like the golden apple, given to us by a father after we saved his daughter from a cave she fell into to.
Others are just trophies, items that were taken to prove the adventures, and mysteries, we've accomplished.
Lastly, there were items that were used during our adventures and now hold emotional value. Rueben's.... remains were one of those. Yet I also see him as a way to remember that we can't keep everything. Sometimes, no matter how strong we are, some things, and people, are out of our control.
I sigh, and have to stop in order to push away a descending sadness. I could hear a heartbeat echo across the quartz as I stand there. I turn towards the sound and approach P.A.M.A.'s Redstone Heart, drawn in by its eerie heartbeat that grows stronger when I approach.
I pick it up and remember when I first grabbed ahold of it. P.A.M.A. was using Lukas's voice to make me pity it. Nobody knows how close I was to giving in at that moment, P.A.M.A. certainly knew how to use Lukas to its advantage.
The desperation and helplessness I heard in my best friend's voice and then only to hear him scream out in pain due to my actions... Don't think about it Jesse, it's over and he's fine.
Moving away from the artifacts, I walk into the hallway towards my room. I pass by the other's members rooms on my way, since this place was originally built to house all of us in between our adventures.
A sigh lightens the pressing silence as I think how long it's been since we have all been here together or the last time we all went on a adventure. Even when we did go on adventures, Lukas was only in a few. It's sad to think that the wither adventure was the only time we were all working together as a group, and it was only out of desperation and necessity.
I open my room door and slowly approach my bed. I'll worry about the wall tomorrow, tonight I am just gonna sleep and hope I can actually get some rest and not another blasted nightmare.
****
Y'know I actually had a prologue... but then I decided it would be much more fun to keep everyone in the dark. Yeah, yeah, kinda mean and this is pretty short... but chapters get longer, don't you worry.
Don't have to take my word, just keep reading.
