Chapter 1

I was running and searching the horizon for a way out, not daring to look back. My heartbeat was taking over the sound of my footsteps. Fear stroke each and every cell of my lungs and I couldn't breathe. I couldn't hold on for much longer and the woods knew it. A horrible shriek tore apart the suffocating night, leaving me on one side and everything else on the other one. What followed was silence. Nothing had ever frightened me more than silence. Neighter darkness, nor the lack of air, nor the forces holding on to me from all sides, slowly shattering me through invisible wires. I had never heard something like that. In that forsaken stillness, I could perfectly discern somebody's scream. My scream.

I had always been like that. I'd smile, mend the others' pain and worries and pretend everything was fine. What wouldn't I have done to make my mind grasp the concept of quietness, my heart the concept of break. As time was passing, my being began to forget itself, little by little, and it started looking like a son of a gun. It was more than once that I wanted to pull the trigger. And I would have, maybe it would have been better that way. Pity I didn't know how.

All of those thoughts flooded my mind in a matter of seconds. And the oblivion surrounding me needed nothing more to become even darker, blinding me with its obscure energy. The words inside my head were continuously spinning and smashing into that stark silence, making me mad in the process. I knew I was the only one who could put an end to that nightmare, I would have done anything but I just couldn't move. It was like every muscle in my body had been chocked to death by the surrounding nothingness, leaving me completely paralysed. I was trying to break free but the chains were too tight. I was beginning to lose hope. Then there was a crushed metallic sound. I had broken out of my own prison.

I looked around and, despite the darkness, I was able to distinguish the edges of my room. My blood was pulsing hard enough to make me think that something completely out of the ordinary had just happened. It was one of those nights again.

I had always hated that feeling, knowing that something huge was going on but having no idea what that something was.

I checked the clock, it was 6 a.m. Only one hour left and my alarm would go off.
