Chapter 5 Broken

(Edmunds POV)

"Hey." I heard someone call from behind me. I spun around and smiled as Emmy walked briskly towards me. Excusing myself from Caspian and I's conversation I met her halfway, laughing as she tried to calm her breathing.

"Have you been running?" I smirked as she swatted at my arm.

"No! Its a big castle. Anyway, I just wanted to ask if you would mind- could you not tell anyone what we talked about last night? I don't want to lie, I just need some time to-"

"Of course." I held up my hand, cutting her off. "If you don't want me to tell anyone then I won't."

She smiled, looking past me and motioning towards the large doors to the thrown room. "It looks like Aslan is ready for us."

I nodded, opening my mouth to say something about Susan's old dress she was wearing, but promptly slammed it shut as her lips brushed against the side of my face and her breath fanned out against my cheek. "Thank you." Her lips pressed a bit more firmly against my skin before she pulled away and skipped over to Lucy, linking their arms together and entering the room behind Caspian.

I shook my head and collected myself, hurrying after them and smiling as my sister threw herself at the great lion who stood just before the throwns, facing us.

"We've missed you so much." Lucy grinned as she leaned back. "You've grown!"

"Every year that you grow, so shall I." Aslans calm, deep voice rang out, filling the silence. "Edmund." He nodded to me, turning his attention to Emmy and sending her a knowing look. "You've brought a new friend."

"This is Emmy." Lucy smiled as our friend gave a small wave. We all made our way to a few chairs near Aslan and took a seat. "Where are the new allies?" Lucy pried excitedly.

Aslan chuckled at her expression. "I appreciate your patience, all of you. Two of our allies are here with us today and are eager to met you."

"And the others?" Caspian asked. "When I left everyone was here."

"Yes." Aslan sighed. "Unfortunately, the other four have decided to return home. They are not convinced that their... gifts will be helpful. That is why I need your help."

"What do we need to do?" Lucy exclaimed.

"Your job is to go retrieve them and convince them that they are needed."

"How do you expect us to convince them to help with something that we know nothing about?" I asked, meeting Emmys eyes as I spoke.

"Well, allow to me inform you then." Aslan started. "A few of our spies found out that the poisoner had been posing as one of us for quite some time. A brunette girl with brown eyes around fifteen was reportedly seen entering the nursing areas more often than normal after your return from Echo Island. Shortly after the wedding she disappeared, never reported seen again. Our spies tracked her down and found her with an old foe of ours that she apparently resurrected."

"Wait." I shook my head, feeling my heart beat so hard in my chest it felt as though it would burst through my skin. "The nursing areas- and resurrecting an old- she stole something with Peters blood on it and used it to resurrect the White Witch."

Aslan nodded slowly, glancing at each of us before continuing. "The White Witch was not the only one who was brought back. Something you may not know about Jadis is that she has a sister, one that I trapped in a magical urn many years ago, only to be freed by a drop of Adams blood. Adias, her sister, had twin daughters who were separated at birth. One of them by the name of Mallymkin has brought them both back, she is the one who poisoned your sister."

"And the other? Where is she?" Lucy asked.

I quickly met Emmys glassy, panic filled eyes as Aslan smiled sadly at her. "Shes in the room with us now."

"Emmy?" Lucy breathed.

"Thats why I thought you looked so familiar." Caspian realized aloud. "Not because I saw Maggie in you, you're not even related to her, It's because I've seen the twin before."

Emmy sat perfectly still, keeping her gaze focused on the ground in front of her as the room grew quiet. My heart cracked into a million tiny pieces as the strongest person i'd ever met gave a look of complete sadness. One single tear slid down her porcelain cheek just before she rose to her feet and dashed from the room.

I was on my feet before I even knew what I was doing. "Was that really necessary? To expose that in front of everyone before she was even ready?"

"Edmund!" Lucy cried, reaching for my arm. Jerking away from her, I didn't wait for a reply as I made my way out of the room, desperately beginning my search for my broken love.
