Chapter 29 Trumpkins Adventure

(Maggies POV)

The further we tread through the cornfield the more butterflies raged in my stomach, twisting and turning together until it felt as though the knot they had created would weigh me down entirely. I kept my fingers intertwined with my husbands the entire time, and I could tell by the way he continuously loosened and tightened his grip on my hand that he was as unsure about this as I was.

Susan and Caspian glanced back at us periodically as they followed closely behind 'Dorothy', as did Lucy who was the closest to her. We had been walking for at least an hour, blindly following someone who seemed as unsure about our path as we did. The way she clenched her fists every now and then, the way her eyes darted from side to side, it all seemed like she was waiting for someone or something to give her instructions.

Peter seemed to read my mind as he suddenly glanced to Trumpkin, silently communicating with him using only his eyes and facial expressions. I watched closely as Trumpkin waited for the perfect opportunity, finding it when 'Dorothy' rubbed her eyes with her palms, to turn and dash into a different row, disappearing from sight.

(Edmunds POV)

"The suns going to make its decent soon." Nesarose exclaimed quietly as she glanced around at the trees and wildlife, seemingly soaking it all in as though she was fearful she wouldnt be seeing it again any time soon.

"Shes right." Dorothy replied, tightening her grip on the childs hand, swatting back a few low hanging branches with the other.

"There." Emmy exclaimed suddenly, pulling me behind her as she burst out of the trees, entering a clearing, the clearing we had left the others at to be exact. "This is where they were."

"Empty." Nesarose chimed.

"As I told you before." Dorothy replied, eyeing me.

"Maybe they just headed back to find us and got lost." Emmy suggested, shrugging her shoulders as she spoke.

"I doubt that." I shook my head, snapping it to the right as a rustling noise sounded nearby. Before I had the chance to react a familiar face came dashing out of the cornfield, stopping just before us.

"Trumpkin!" Emmy exclaimed.

"Well that was easy." Trumpkin mumbled, his slight smile turning to a confused frown as his eyes landed on Dorothy. Lifting his finger up slowly, he pointed it at her. "You were leading us through the field."

"Shes been with us the whole time." I replied uneasily.

"Who do we know that can take the form of someone else?" Emmy asked me lowly. "She cant be here, can she?"

I squeezed her hand in mine. "Only one way to find out."
