The history of the Dragonborns was a long and complicated one. No one truly knew how their species was first created and where exactly they came from. There have multiple theories told throughout generations. Some believed that they were created by the goddess of magic herself while others thought they came from another planet such as Mars. Elvira's mother had her own theories on the matter. Arielle Targaryen III had told her children the theory that has been passed down through the royal line for centuries. Dragonborns were created by the Egyptians who discovered a strange red plant in the middle of the desert. The group of Egyptians ate this plant and were able to walk through the intense fires that had once blocked their path. This led to them finding colored eggs within the flames that had strange markings on the shells. When one of the Egyptians took out their knife to cut the eggs, but instead accidentally cut themselves, a drop of blood landed on the eggs. Suddenly, the eggs hatched to reveal a baby reptilian creature that became known as dragons. The Dragonborn species had started out in Egypt where the first Dragonborns found more of the fruit and gave them to villages of people. Thus the population increased and they needed to find new land to protect their people from the outside world. Many others wanted to sell the scales and bones of the dragons leading to unnecessary deaths of their companions and species. Asmar was the leader at the time and he led his people to the mountains in Germany, far away from anyone that could find them. The Dragonborns lived there until Arielle I rose to power and engaged in a war with the Dawnguard. When she realizes how much stronger the Dawnguard was than the Dragonborns, she took her people to the mountain ranges of Sweden in hopes of saving their species. There, their linage continued to thrive. Elvira always wondered what would have happened to her species if her great-grandmother never started a war that they couldn't even win. Even thousands of years later and the Dawnguard is still stronger than them. Elvira remembers when she took her mother's place as Queen alongside Finlay. It was after the death of their father, Jonas. As he was dying, Arielle gave their royal positions to their children. Elvira can still imagine the look in her mother's eyes as she watched her mate slowly die. It was heartbreaking to watch and Elvira is forever grateful that her soulmate turned out to be a vampire. Sometimes, Elvira wishes that her parents had never died and stayed the rulers of their kingdom because maybe their people wouldn't be dead. Maybe she wouldn't have failed her species and brother by taking in a newborn vampire who had betrayed them. Maybe she could still be in her kingdom, playing with Finlay as they waited for their parents to finished with their diplomatic matters. Maybe she would've never met Vladimir and instead settled down with Erik, an old friend of hers, and had children. The endless possibilities of alternative timelines are always present in Elvira's mind of what could've been.

At least, that is what Elvira has spent centuries thinking as she came to terms with the death of her people. She had finally accepted that she couldn't save them and it was her fault that they died before their time. She had only just got over her self-loathing and depression from the loss of her brother. She had lived alone for centuries to punish herself for the death of her species until she stumbled upon Jasper. Jasper has been her saving grace, always there to help her through her outbursts of emotions. He stood by her side and caught her whenever she stumbled. He was there for her and she was there for him, their friendship growing to new lengths as they confided into each other about everything. For a moment, she could not believe her eyes and she wished Jasper was with her to catch her when she had stumbled. She glances around the room and tries to see if anything is out of the ordinary to signal that this was another one of the Dawnguard tricks. Once she confirms that there were no tricks at play, she turns to her people with tears swelling in her eyes. Her people gaze at her with hope and awe, some have tears streaming down their face while others have gigantic grins at the sight of their ruler.

"I am terribly sorry." She croaks out, stumbling towards them and grasping the young girl's cheeks within her shaking hands. "I thought that I was the last one yet here you are. How did you end up here?"

"We got captured a while before the Volturi came to kill everyone in the kingdom." Another girl from the group states. "The damn Dawnguard wouldn't stop boasting about our species finally becoming extinct, but they kept us all alive." A roar emits from a room down the hall and Elvira snaps her head towards the sound. Her periwinkle eyes shone with worry for her dragons especially because Duncan hardly ever roars unless he is truly irritated at someone.

"We saw them drag in a couple of dragons. We never thought that they would belong to you." An elderly man whispers, a weak smile coming to his face. "My Queen, it's a blessing to see your face before my timely death."

"Do not speak in such an ill manner. None of you are dying, I will make sure of that." Elvira quickly hisses. However, she freezes when the echoing sound of footsteps can be heard approaching them. She quickly looks for a place to hide and notices a couple of cages filled with people stacked in the corner. She quietly makes her over to them, using her long nails to open the lock on one, and slides in without locking at who was inside. She sucks in a sharp breath, watching the new figure warily as they happily amble into the room. She glares hatefully when they pause in front of the girl from earlier and leans in close.

"It's strange to see such hope in your eyes." The woman muses, gently tracing her fingernail along the girl's jawline. "Even after being here for centuries, you continue to hold onto hope that someone will save you. Darling, wake up." A loud smacking sound echoes off the metal walls. "No one cares about you. No one even knows you're down here." Sh crackles before heading upstairs and away from them. Elvira goes to sneak out of the cage when a frail hand softly prods her side. She whirls around in a panic before stopping to observe the person in the cage with her.

"Erik?" She whispers, her eyes twinkling with happiness at the sight of an old friend. Erik smiles at her, his periwinkle eyes glinting with tiredness as his greasy brown hair falls in his face.

"Eli," her old nickname rolls off his tongue, "never thought I'll be seeing your face again." She rolls her eyes and playfully nudges his shoulder. She carefully climbs out of the cage, holding out her hands towards him to help him out. He slightly stumbles into her from being so weak.

"Erik, I need you to help the rest of the creatures out of the cages. I need to go save my dragons and after that, I'm taking you all out of this hellhole." She informs him.

"My majesty, you need to realize that not all of us are making it out alive today." He comments, wincing in pain. "Get the youngest and healthiest out first, I'll lead the rest." He takes a hesitant step towards the cages and slightly glances over his shoulder at her. "Is it true? Is our entire kingdom gone?" Elvira can feel the multiple pairs of eyes on her figure and for a mere moment, she considers lying to her people. She considers saving them from the pain of knowing that their home was gone, from the disappointment that their so-called Queen was the one that had caused its ruins.

"It is." She inhales sharply as she sees the gleam of hope slowly die in her people's eyes. "Our home is gone, we are the last of our people and I haven't found any new dragon eggs in a long time." She grimly responds, easily sensing the solemn mood overwhelming everyone. She pushes that back to her kind and focuses on getting her people out. She glances around in a frenzy to spot a knife resting on a metal table. She grabs it and slices through the bindings keeping the girl restrained on the ceiling. "Here," she hands the knife over to a nearby girl, "release everyone in this room while I take care of the Dawnguard." The girl rips the IV out of her veins and hurries to help the others out of their restraints. Elvira watches her people with a sad smile on her face. She could not believe that they have been in this experimental facility the entire time. She frowns, clenching her fists. An overwhelming sense of guilt washes over her because she should have continued searching for them. She should have never assumed that she was truly the last one after a few decades. She sighs and begins to make her way towards the darkened hallway leading to where she hopes her dragons are when her eyes land on yet another surprising figure. She rapidly blinks to ensure she was not dreaming or hallucinating before she grumbles and stalks over to the person. She crosses her arms, staring blankly at the hanging man. He smiles brightly at her with his red eyes shining with amusement as his shaggy black hair falls over his face. "I thought you said the Dawnguard didn't have you."

"I actually didn't know they had me until now," Stefan admits to her with a slight chuckle. "I woke up thinking I'll be in the cave that I found for shelter when I'm suddenly staring everything upside down. Can you please get me down? My head's starting to hurt." She shakes her head before focusing on her fingernails and making them longer. She swipes at the restraints and watches as he slams into the floor. He groans, slowly sitting up while rubbing his sore head. "You couldn't have gently help me down?"

"I need a little revenge after being abandoned for centuries." She bitterly smirks at him. A flash of surprise is seen in his eyes before it quickly vanishes.

"I never thought I'll see the day that Elvira openly seeks out revenge." He chuckles and stands up. He glances down at his half-naked body and cocks an eyebrow. "Why did they steal my clothes?" He whines. "I was stylish in that suit!"

"You have certainly gotten caught up with the modern times." She muses, recognizing the mannerisms and words to be the ones people use today. "It's nice to see that you're still a child."

"I'm not a child." He huffs as he searches through a box near the metal tables that contains clothes.

"You could've fooled me with your attitude." She teases before she remembers why she is here. She had gotten so caught up with seeing an old friend and her people that she almost forgot that she was on a mission. "I have a couple of dragons to save. Want to help?" She inquiries. He warily eyes her while putting the clothes he picked out of the box on.

"Dragons are still alive?" He snorts in disbelief. "I thought the eggs you had with you were destroyed. You can never truly believe rumors especially when it comes to your species. Also, you're powerful enough to take them on. Why do you need me?"

"Just for old times sakes?" She questions, shrugging her shoulders.

"Our double-teaming tactics have been perfected." He weighs his options as his eyes flicker from the exit to her. He finally nods his head while emitting a sigh. "I cannot abandon my best friend when she's in need." He receives a cold stone look from the girl. "You will always be holding that fact that I did abandon you for centuries over my head, aren't you?"

"Always." She smirks. He rolls his eyes and links his arm with hers.

"Let's go show the Dawnguard that they messed with the wrong Dragon mother." He comments with a wicked smirk crossing his lips. The duo stalk down the darkened hallways and to where they could hear sounds of people talking and a claw scraping across the floor. The duo cautiously peeks around the corner of the wall, to see a staircase leading to a balcony where armed guards stand around a man dressed in all black. On the ground level, Elvira's dragons are chained to the floor. Elvira covers her mouth to contain her angered hisses at the sight of her injured companions. She goes to launch herself into the room when Stefan grabs her collar and tugs her backward. "Wait, we need to see how many people are in there before we go rushing in without a plan." He whispers yells.

"Brothers! Sisters!" The man that has the armed guards with him shouts. "We caught the royal Dragonborn today, the Queen Elvira Targaryen." Laughter erupts throughout the crowd of people forming near the balcony.

"That's at least a hundred people and there's still more coming in," Stefan comments quietly.

"There's been reports of her escaping and killing our kind. Our family!" The man yells angrily and cries of outrage simultaneously emit from the crowd. "She's loose in this facility, desperately searching for the dragons we have chained to the ground. Gaze upon the creatures that were once deemed the most dangerous in existence. The exact creatures that we have beaten. We are stronger than ever before! After defeating the Queen, we can finally start our main agenda." He claps his hands and a large billboard falls from the ceiling, showcasing different blueprints and equations. "With Elvira's powers combined with the other creatures and dragons, we can harness that power and control time. We can go back in time and save thousands of our people by stopping the war that Arielle Targaryen I started!" Cheers of excitement and agreement pierce the air yet it falls on deaf ears as the two hidden creatures gawk at what the man just said.

"That's not possible," Elvira mumbles in shock. "I can live with the fact that the supernatural exists and there's meta-humans running about now or just really smart billionaires with too much time on their hands who create suits and weapons, but time travel does not exist." She pauses and sharply glances at Stefan. "Time travel can't be real, right?"

"Elvira, I can't think right now because my mind has been blown." He softly replies and then turns to face her in confusion. "Wait, what are meta-humans, and what billionaire has time to create weapons and suits?"

"Just visit Stark Tower one day and you'll get your answers to that." She answers.

"During our research, we have discovered that every supernatural creature on this planet shares one thing in common." The man claps his hands again and a hologram image appears in the middle of the room. "We believed that this substance is what mainly drives their supernatural power so we started to drain their blood to observe how their DNA reacts in certain circumstances. After we removed this part of the double helix in their DNA structure, we would transfuse the blood back into their body. Welcome, Mr. Alan Forbes, our very first subject." Two guard drags a middle aged man into the room and roughly throws him onto the ground. "Twenty years ago, Mr. Alan Forbes was a vampire forever stuck at the age of fifteen. And now look at him, he has aged to be thirty-five years old. This is what we can do to these creatures, we have the ability to take away their supernatural power and make them human again." Stefan and Elvira tightly grasp each other's hands as they try to process the overload of information they are witnessing. "With the power, we took from him, we condensed it into this." A new image appears of a strange black hold. "This was completely by accident, to be honest, but we created a wormhole in time that connected our timeline to infinite other timelines and infinite other alternative universes of our planet. With the power of time on our side, we can accomplish anything."

"The entire supernatural world is in trouble." Elvira states. She pauses when she hears footsteps approaching her from behind and quickly spins around to see the supernatural creatures that were once chained to the ceilings or kept in cages standing there.

"We decided as a group that we're not abandoning our Queen," Erik informs her as he steps forward slightly. "This is our fight just as much as it's yours." She shakes her head and smiles at them.

"Do not kill anyone unless absolutely necessary and that man," she points at the man that is smirking down at his people, "needs to be captured so we can question him. He's the ringleader." She stands up, helping Stefan up with her. "What they've done to you is unacceptable. It is time to end this facility to ensure that no other supernatural creature suffers this pain. We have fought the Dawnguard for many years in a war that neither of us could ever win. But now, we have the help of other supernatural creatures despite the fact that our own species numbers are low. This is the day we end the war. This is the day we get to rebuild our species and go home." She bolts into the room with the supernatural creatures following right behind and stomps her foot onto the ground. Large bursts of air emit from her body and blow everyone away from her dragons. Small precision waves of air slice through the chains containing her dragons. "Let us take back what is ours with fire," Vera roars and fire streams out of her mouth, "and blood," cries of pain erupt as Sullivan claws the Dawnguard closest to him.
