Chapter 13: Something With Peppermint

                                                                                        Ash
"Ready, set, go," Fiona says as we before prepare to drink our coffee. We both take a sip of the coffee and look at each other.

"Thoughts?" I say to her

"It actually tastes pretty good," she says and nods her head

"Yeah, but I don't taste the hazelnut"

"It tastes more like cinnamon and chocolate"

"What should I bring tomorrow?"

"Something with peppermint" there's an awkward silence "Remember yesterday when I asked you if you wanted to join the track team"

"Yeah"

"Well, I was wondering if you would like me to train you?" she says and then looks at her foot "Well after my foot heals"

"Sure, but what are my chances of actually getting onto the track team?"

"Right now. None. After I train you. Most likely. It really depends on who you will be against"

"Okay, now I have a question"

"I might have an answer"

"Remember how yesterday when the book fell on your foot"

"How could I forget?" she says with a sarcastic tone

"Why were you in that room?" it takes her a second to understand my question.

"That room is called The Shoebox"

"Clever," I say with an intrigued voice

"It's where I go when I need some quiet"

"Are you even allowed to be in that room?"

"Probably not"

"Then this will be our little secret"

"Our secret? There is no way in hell that I'm sharing that room with you"

"Why not?" I look at her for a second and I smile. Her big, beautiful, brown eyes meet mine.

"First, the room is too small to share. Second, I don't want to."

"I'm going to need more of an explanation"

Now she was fired up. I liked that

"Take your need for an explanation and shove it up your-" I slammed on the breaks, which caused some of Fiona's coffee to spill onto my dashboard. She slowly turned her head to me with her jaw wide open. "You jerk," she said in between chuckles

"What! I didn't want to skip the red light" as soon as she said this I felt a little bit of pain in my arm. It was Fiona's fist. "Wow your actually pretty strong"

"Why is that surprising?"

"You're not really an open book"

"Neither are you"

"Okay, what do you want to know about me?"

"Why did you start going to this school?"

I expected her to ask this question.

"Well my mother liked beer more than me so she let me live with my father"

Well, this was not the whole truth but this was part of it. We arrived at the school so I didn't have to explain anymore.
