It had been one week since the truth or dare night Ant and Maddy's siblings had organised. Yet, much to the annoyance of their friends, nothing at all seemed to have changed between Ant and Maddy.
"No Jess, nothing. He hasn't done anything about it, he hasn't said anything about it, and I'm fucking glad he hasn't!" Maddy yelled, furiously slamming her locker shut.
"Woah there. I didn't mean to make you angry. I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's asked you?" Jess smirked.
Maddy glared at her friend, giving Jess all the answer she needed. Maddy was avoiding discussions about Ant as much as possible. No, absolutely nothing had changed. And even though she said she was happy Ant hadn't done anything, Maddy definitely was not happy.
Since that evening, Ant hadn't mentioned anything to do with their kiss or Maddy panicking after. In fact, their friendship had gone back to the same way it had been beforehand.
That disappointed Maddy. A lot. It wasn't like she could say that. Finn had been annoyed at Ant, and Fontaine had been pressing for information. Ant hadn't changed at all.
"Hey guys. Coffee Mads?" Ant smiled walking up to the girls.
Maddy greatfully snatched the coffee from his hands and sipped it, knowing she'd need caffeine to handle the day.
"Honestly I hate you both." Jess groaned as the rest of their friends showed up.
"We're here! Hey anteline." Rayla greeted.
"I don't even want to know." Ant gritted out.
"How's Ezran?" Fontaine asked, attempting to ease the tension.
"He's good!" Calum smiled happily.
While their friends were distracted by the discussion on Ezran, Ant an Maddy snuck off.
"Where'd they go?" Finn asked.
"There's nothing we can do to help them now." Rayla said grimly.
"What are you talking about?" Jess scoffed.
"They are being stubborn. We can't force them to do anything." Rayla replied.
"Let's lock dm in a room together and bribe the drama teacher into giving them the roles for Romeo and Juliet in the play we're doing." Alpheus smirked.
"Oooooooooh snap. Hell yes we are going to do that. Everyone give me $100." Finn ordered.
Meanwhile, Ant was feeling very frustrated. His friends had tormented him all week, and when he said nothing had changed what he really meant was "things are really awkward and I'd like to do that dare again."
Maddy hadn't spoken about that night once. Ant tried to but met a dead end, and he realised it wasn't worth it. He'd just have to deal.
"See you after class Maddy." Ant called to his best friend.
"See you soon." Maddy smiled back.
Ant huffed. Maybe he should try getting a girlfriend? That might help his cause.
Asif by magic, Gabriella North, one of the richer girls in school smacked straight into Ant, and smiled.
"Morning Anteaus." Gabriella smiled.
"Oh Ant is fine." Ant replied.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me? Since Maddy Is rejecting you." Gabriella smirked.
Ant gaped at her. Was it that obvious? Maybe she was exactly what he needed. "You know what? Sure. Sounds good."
"Great! Can you pick me up at 6 at my place and we can go to the movies." Gabriella said passing him a sticky note.
Ant smiled and nodded. "Sure. See you then."
Gabriella waved goodbye as Ant headed off to class. He felt like he should have been happy, but somehow felt the exact opposite.
At lunch break, Ant told everyone at the table about his date and what had gone down.
"So you're going out with Gabriella? She's a rich bitch." Jess frowned.
"Well she's pretty and I'm going to try." Ant glared.
Maddy who had been silent through the whole ordeal suddenly stood up and walked away, leaving Ant stunned and the others annoyed at him.
"What up with Maddy?" Ant asked worriedly.
"How dumb can you be? She likes you and now you're saying you are going on a date? That had to hurt." Fontaine replied punching him.
"Not true. She probably needed the toilet or something." Ant scoffed.
"Okay man. Drama class next, ready? Maddy and you have the same class." Alpheus smirked.
Ant rolled his eyes. "I'm ready. And we'll see that I'm right."
And so Ant walked to his classroom. Maddy was already there and he sat next to her.
Maddy for her part was feeling quite depressed. Ant had made it very apparent he didn't like her. Now on top of everything else he was going on a date with the most low hanging fruit of the entire school? Way to make it obvious.
Storming out of the lunchroom hadn't been her best idea, but at the time it was all she could do to stop herself from bawling her eyes out.
"Okay class! We will be doing another version of Romeo and Juliet." Mrs Diaz announced.
Maddy groaned. Really? Every year this class did a play. Why'd she get stuck in the middle of Romeo and Juliet?
"I will pick who will be participating, since most of you have little to no skill." Mrs Diaz stated, making kids groan again.
"Okay, for Romeo and Juliet, Ant and Madeline." Mrs Diaz said.
"Wait what? No way." Maddy yelled.
"Yes way. This is half of your passing grade miss Hanson. Like it or not, your father will not pay your way out of this one." Mrs Diaz replied, chuckling to herself at the $600 dollars in her pocket.
Maddy rolled her eyes, not noticing Ant sinking into his chair sadly. If he had any hope that she might like him, she'd just crushed it.
"As I mentioned," Mrs Diaz said, after she finished passing out assignments, "this is worth 50% of your passing grade. If you don't get it, well, good luck. Do your best and practice lots. This play will compete against other schools."
This helped Ant to perk up a little. He could kiss Maddy again! Maybe even more than once! This was epic!
Finally the bell rung and Ant and Maddy left the room. Ant waved to Maddy and left to go on his date, and Maddy left to her house, flopping onto her bed depressed and started her homework.
She had to kiss Ant? Again? In front of a lot of people. There was no way she could do that.
The second the bell rung, an awkward atmosphere enveloped both of them, and Ant and Maddy took off.
Maddy drove home, feeling deflated and flopped herself on her bed, crying silently as she did her homework. Maddy didn't cry Infront of anyone. Not even Ant. When her Mom died, her father tried so hard to care for Finn and her. But nothing can replace losing your Mom. Maddy often closed herself up and avoided showing how she really felt to anyone. She couldn't help but blame Ant for how worthless she felt right now.
After a hour, Maddy walked down to the gym room and started training. Might as well do something useful.
Meanwhile, Ant was gradually becoming more and more awkward and pissed off with his date. He knew his dad said to respect girls, but did this girl even have self respect?
So far Gabriella spent the entire evening making fun of Maddy, trying to get him to sleep with her, and asking when she could come over to his house.
"Doing this was a mistake." He thought angrily.
Ant grabbed his phone and texted Maddy, asking if she wanted to practice in about an hour. His message popped up as read but she didn't reply. He frowned and looked up, where Gabi was whining in a high pitched badly voice.
"Who are you texting babe? I hope it's not that Maddy slut." Gabi spat.
"She's not a slut! An if you weren't a girl I'd hit you. This was a mistake." Ant said getting up to leave.
"Why? I'm your best shot. She doesn't like you." Gabi smirked.
"Fuck you." Ant hissed storming out. He jumped on his motorbike and rode towards Maddy's house, desperately wanting to punch something.
Maddy came up out of the gym room wearing a sports bra and pants, and made herself a smoothie when she heard the doorbell ring.
Finn came downstairs, smirking, with Alpheus and Callum with him.
"Mads, who's at the door?" Finn asked.
"Uh, Ant." Maddy groaned, checking the camera.
"Trouble in paradise?" Alpheus teased.
"Shut up." Maddy glared.
"Well have fun practicing. We gonna go play gran Turismo." Finn said.
Maddy cursed him silently and went to the door. Didn't the read but not replied thing tell him she didn't want to see him?
"Hey Ant." Maddy smiled opening the door.
"Hey. Wanna go do a run through?" Ant asked, then grimaced. His tone was formal to say the least and there was an awkward atmosphere around them again.
Instead of replying verbally, Maddy nodded and gestured for Ant to follow her, whilst their friends were conspiring to help them out one last time.
"Where'd you wanna practice Mads?" Ant asked.
"Oh. Let's go in the library. The aircon in my room is broken." Maddy replied swinging the door open.
Suddenly, every single light in the house turned off, and as Ant stumbled into the library with Maddy, the door was quickly pulled closed and locked, the familiar click startling Maddy as her eyes slowly adjusted to the dark.
"Hey let us out!" Ant yelled trying to force the door open. Callum, Alpheus and Finn had barricaded the door so he couldn't, meaning that since both of their phones were flat, they had no hope.
"Um Ant you're going to hurt yourself. Just sit down and we'll find a way to pass the time until the boys figure out where we are and let us out." Maddy urged.
Ant sighed and stumbled over to her, sitting down beside her. He was grateful to the dark, since she couldn't see his embarrassed face.
"So uh, why'd you leave your date early?" Maddy queried.
"Why are you asking?" Ant replied, hoping to avoid the question.
"Because you left before the movie even ended." Maddy pointed out.
"I'll tell you if you tell me why you freaked out when I kissed you the other day." Ant smirked.
"Are you serious. Fine, whatever." Maddy nodded.
"She was trying to sleep with me and called you a slut." Ant replied.
"Oh, how sweet of her." Maddy smirked, venom dripping from her words as she pictured the nasty girl.
"Your go." Ant said.
"I was drunk, it was my first kiss, I had a panic attack." Maddy shrugged.
"Wait what? Your first kiss? And you panicked." Ant frowned.
"Yes Ant. I've never been kissed before." Maddy rolled her eyes.
"Was it bad?" Ant questioned, nervously.
"I don't know! I was drunk. I scarcely remember much of what happened that night." Maddy blushed furiously.
Somehow, Maddy not remembering the kiss infuriated Ant more than he cared to admit. Acting on impulse, he snaked his arm around Maddy's waist and pulled her flush against him.
"Ant what are you......." Maddy began. Before she could finish her sentence, Ant pushed his lips to hers, shocking her.
Maddy automatically melted into the kiss, going limp in his arms as Ant melded their lips together. He gently teased her, biting her lip ever so slightly, causing her to open he mouth enough for Ant to slip his tongue in.
Slowly he pulled away, looking at her in a form of shock and happiness, but also fear.
"Why did you do that?" Maddy asked quietly.
"Well. Uh. I'm sorry Mads. I meant to tell you I really did. I just don't see you a just a friend. And I know you don't feel the same and it was wrong of me to kiss you without your permission but." Ant started panicking.
Maddy quickly kissed him, silencing Ant who looked shocked.
"Why did you do that?" Ant asked.
"Ant I've like you as more than a friend for a long time." Maddy smirked.
"Wait what? I thought you didn't like me or I would've done something sooner." Ant blushed.
Maddy laughed. "Actually, same. Oh man the others are gonna be so proud of themselves for this." Maddy blushed furiously.
Ant kissed her cheek. "Let them. You know they're happy for us beautiful."
Maddy smiled at the new nickname. "Very true. I love you."
"I love you too." Maddy smiled. She leaned her head on his shoulder and slowly they both fell asleep in each other.
The next morning, the boys and Fontaine, Jess and Ezran all turned the power back on and unlocked the door. They walked in and found Maddy sleeping on Ant, whilst Ant slowly woke up and glared at them all.
"I know you're responsible for this." He frowned.
"Aha yeah man, did it work?" Alpheus asked.
Maddy woke up and smiled at all of them, and Ant nodded. "Thanks man. Yeah, it worked."
Jess and Fontaine high-fived the boys and cheered.
"Told you they weren't just friends." Jess smirked, making Ant and Maddy blush simultaneously.
