When You're With Me...
"Are you sure, Lance? I don't want you to spend too much on me..." I said.
"Whatever you want, it's yours, my queen. (Esther 5:6)" Lance said.
I know he says this, but I feel like I don't deserve this kind of luxury...
I looked at the jewelry in the display cases with a look of uncertainty. I then saw a gorgeous flower necklace. The petals were beautiful blue moon diamonds. My face scrunched up when I saw the price.
I don't want Lance to spend so much...
"I guess... maybe the flower necklace..." I said.
Lance looked at the necklace and smiled.
"Alright then. We'll take that necklace, my friend." Lance said, turning to the jeweler.
The jeweler nodded and took out the necklace from the display case.
"Wait. Are you sure? The price is... I can help pay for it." I said.
Lance smiled and then placed a finger on my lips.
"Whatever you want, it's yours." Lance said.
I furrowed my brows as he removed his finger from my mouth.
I don't deserve this... I don't deserve him...
When Lance finished paying, he turned me around, so my back was facing him. I then felt the cold, silver chain of the necklace when Lance put in on me. I stared down at the necklace and let a small smile form on my face.
"Thank you so much Lance," I said, turning to face him.
"Like I said, anything for you, my queen." Lance said.
"Are you sure I can't pay you back half of what you paid? I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of your kindness and generosity..."
Lance huffed out a chuckle and set his hand on my head.
"Your humbleness is truly admirable, Sharena. And trust me, you're not taking advantage me. And you know how I know?" Lance asked.
I thought for a while and shook my head no.
"Because you're not the type of person to do something like that. You're too nice and humble to do something so scandalous." Lance said.
"I guess you're right..." I said.
Lance laughed and patted my hand.
"Your humbleness is so adorable." Lance said.
My cheeks heated up when Lance complimented me. Draping an arm around my shoulders, we walked out of the jewelry store. I then felt piercing gazes looking our way. Looking around me were a lot of other girls with scornful faces. Feeling unsure, I buried my face into Lance's chest.
"Don't worry about them. They got nothing on you." Lance whispered.
I nodded with an unsure expression. Lance felt my uncertainty and pressed my head closer into his chest.
"As long as you're here with me, no one would dare harm you." he said, voice sounding cold yet kind and gentle at the same time.
Hearing this made me feel safe.
Lance is a good, young man with an equally good heart. I'm glad to be with him. I take back every mean thing I've ever said about him.
"Want to grab something to eat?" Lance asked, looking down at me.
Hearing my stomach growl, my face flushed a bright fuchsia. Lance's smile turned into a genuine laugh.
"I'll take that as a yes. We're here at the mall, anyway, might as well head to the food court." Lance said.
Agreeing with Lance, we made our way to the mall's food court.
When Lance isn't talking about politics with his father, he's just a normal, everyday young man enjoying the day with his girlfriend.
"So, what do you want, darling?" Lance asked.
"Well, I've been meaning to try out the new Papillon Café I've heard so much about," I said.
"Ah, the Butterfly Café."
"You know French?"
"Oui."
I let a giggle escape my lips and smiled up at Lance.
"Shall we, Mademoiselle?" Lance asked, extending a hand to me.
"Oui, Monsieur." I said, taking his hand.
We continued walking to the Papillon Café, hand in hand with smiles on our faces. When we got there, it was just as the name said. The logo was a beautiful magenta and purple butterfly with the café's name on its wings.
"Bonjour, Monsieur et Mademoiselle! Welcome to Papillon Café!" said the cashier.
Already loving the place!
"What can I get for you today?" she asked.
"What do you recommend?" I asked.
"Well, for a magnifique couple like yourself, I recommend the Papillon Café special, exclusive for couples only."
The cashier then pointed to a poster with the café's special. On it were two, small layer cakes that looked really cute and delicious.
"What are they?" I asked.
"Ah, they are a Paris delicacy called Millefeuille." she said.
I stared at the cashier with a confused expression.
"In English, it's pronounced meel-foy. It's become a popular for Papillon Café." the cashier said.
Lance and I looked at each other and nodded with smiles.
"We'll take it." we said at the same time.
"Magnifique! One Papillon Café special, coming right up!" she said.
Looking up at Lance, I smiled widely. Lance looked at me with the same face.
"I honestly cannot wait to try it." I said.
"Neither can I." Lance said.
After a while, the cashier came from the back with the two cakes.
They look so much better in person than the poster!
"Here you go! Bon appetit!" she said.
"Merci!" Lance and I said.
After paying for the cakes, Lance and I sat down at a booth and smiled down at the cakes.
"Well, bottoms up." I said.
Cutting some of the cake, I picked it up with the fork and put it in my mouth. A wide smile spread across my face.
"It's delicious! The flavor just melts in your mouth!" I said happily.
Lance chuckled and tried a piece for himself.
"You're right, it is delicious." Lance said.
We sat there and happily ate the delicious cake.
~Lance's POV~
I glanced up at Sharena and smiled.
Even when she's eating, she looks so cute.
She then looked up at me with a raised brow.
"Do I have something on my face?" she asked.
Her voice brought me back down to earth. I felt my face flush a bright red and quickly averted Sharena's gaze.
"No, sorry." I said sheepishly.
Shrugging her shoulders, Sharena went back to eating her cake. Looking down at my hand, I clenched a small box in my fist.
Not yet... We've only been together for a couple weeks.
"You okay, Lance?" Sharena asked.
"Yes, I'm fine, Rena. Just thinking." I said.
"As long as you're okay."
I smiled at her remark when I noticed she finished her cake.
"You finished that cake quick." I said.
"I couldn't help it. It was so good..." Sharena sighed.
I chuckled and continued to eat mine.
Honestly, just seeing her full, happy face is enough for me. She's smart, beautiful, funny, independent; what more can you ask for in a girl...? The light of the Lord shines through her like the sun through a crystal. (Proverbs 31:30-31)
When I finished, I stood up and held out my hand to Sharena. Smiling, she took it gladly. We walked out of the food court and began making our way to the mall's exit.
"Thank you for everything today, Lance. This afternoon was lovely." Sharena suddenly said.
"Anytime. Being with you is always a blessing and a joy." Lance said.
Her cheeks then flushed a bright pink. Smiling, I placed a kiss on her heated cheek. Sharena flinched and looked up at me with an embarrassed looked.
"We're still in the mall, Lance." she said.
"I don't care. I want to show all of LA that you are mine. When you're with me, you belong to no one else, but me." Lance said.
My words were firm and sincere. Sharena smiled and nodded.
"And when you're with me, you're my one and only." she said sweetly.
I huffed out a chuckle and wrapped my arm around her neck, pulling her in close.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." I said.
Sharena's smile widened and she leaned into my embrace, gripping my hand like a lifeline. I gave her hand a loving squeeze in return, making sure I don't squeeze her hand too hard.
"I love you, Lance..." Sharena said sweetly.
If my heart could smile, it would be grinning from ear to ear.
I pulled Sharena closer into my embrace and placed a kiss on her soft hair.
"I love you too, Sharena..." I said.
Always and forever...
