If He's Single, Then That Means...
It was a couple days after I met that boy, and to this day, I still appreciate what he did for me.
"How can I make it up to him?" I asked myself.
I began rocking back and forth on my bed, wracking my brain with ideas. I glanced around my room until I saw my guitar resting on its stand.
He did say he liked my singing and playing. Maybe I can play a song for him...?
With the idea in mind, I nodded with a confident grin.
"Sharena, are you awake?" asked a voice outside my door.
"Yes, Arlo. Please, come in." I said.
With my permission, Arlo came in with a smile.
"Hey, you okay?" he asked.
"If you're asking about what happened a couple days ago, then yeah, I'm good." I said with a reassuring smile.
"That's good to hear."
Looking away from my cousin for a moment to think, I looked back at him with a question in mind.
"Cousin-Arlo, what is it with you and Barren?" I asked.
"Isn't it obvious? He hates my guts," Arlo said.
"I can see that, but why?"
"I'm in the mayor's good graces, and he fears that I might take his position as Assistant Mayor."
I gave Arlo an "are you serious?" look.
"I love being a cop, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. As I was walking away, I saw that you got firsthand of Barren's true nature. What did he tell you?" Arlo asked.
"He asked if I had a license for my guitar. I didn't know I needed a license." I confessed.
"Trust me, you don't. He just said that because he believes that with his position, he can say or do whatever he wants."
I let out a scoff and rolled my eyes.
"But that boy you were talking to stood up for me." I said.
"Really? Well, that's nice. Besides Mayor Auburne, he's the only one who can really stand up to that guy."
I nodded and continued to listen to my cousin.
"So, are you planning to go around town and play your guitar for the kind people?" Arlo asked.
"Yup, but I don't know when, though." I answered.
Arlo smiled and placed a hand on my head.
"Your parents would be so proud of you." he said.
Thinking about them made me smile. Arlo patted my head before standing up from my bed.
"Well, I better get going. This time, I have to patrol LA." Arlo said, dusting off his uniform.
"Godspeed." I said.
Arlo smiled and walked out of my room. Sighing with content, I laid back into my pillows, staring up at my snow white ceiling. I reached for my phone and checked out what was going on in the social media world. Then, a message from one of my friends popped up. Her name was Sasha.
SASHA: Did u hear the news? Lance Auburne is SINGLE!!!!! He's looking 4 a new girlfriend!!!
Rolling my eyes, I replied to my enthusiastic friend.
SHARENA: And this concerns me how????
SASHA: C'mon. Wouldn't u like to b Lance's girlfriend???
SHARENA: Trust me. Having a man is nice but getting 1 is never my top priority.
SASHA: Can't argue with that, but at least try out 4 it.
SHARENA: I'm not about 2 play some stupid Match-Maker game. Besides, I'm not that pretty. Guys like him look 4 beauty, and the girls that try out 4 this r only interested with his money. Didn't u hear about what happened to his last girlfriend?
SASHA: Valid point. Well, I'm not gonna force ya. Just, take it into consideration, ok?
SHARENA: Just did, and my answer is no.
Clicking my phone off, I let out a deep groan.
I know for a fact that the boy I met at Echo Park is nothing like Lance Auburne. He was kind, gentle, and liked me for me. If Lance Aubrune was anything like that, then the world might as well be flat.
"Besides, who would go out with a guitarist...?" I asked myself.
~Lance's POV~
"I'm telling you Gareth, she was beautiful, and her humbleness made her look so innocent and cute," I said.
"Is that so?" Gareth asked.
"Not only that, she's an amazing guitarist and has the voice of an angel. What I wouldn't give to meet her again..."
Gareth chuckled and pushed up his light blue glasses.
"So, did you get her name?" Gareth asked.
"Sharena Beyevell. She's actually related to Arlo," I said.
"Really? If she's part of Arlo's family, then she must be a sweet lass."
"She sure is."
Gareth then clicked on his phone and I caught of his eyes becoming large.
"Uh, dude...? You might want to check this out..." Gareth said, handing me his phone.
I looked at the screen and blinked in surprise.
Time to play Match-Maker, cuz Lance Auburne is finally single!
I let out a loud groan leaned back into the leather sofa.
"I can never leave the house again..." I said.
"Come on, man. It's not that bad." Gareth said.
I shot a cold glare towards my friend.
"To be fair, you did say you wanted a new girlfriend." Gareth said.
I let out a defeated sigh, knowing what my friend said was the God honest truth.
"Do you know who posted that?" I asked.
"It doesn't say. Probably some Instagram or Twitter post. There's probably going to be hundreds more like this, so it's going to be hard to narrow it down." Gareth said.
I sighed and stood up from my sitting position.
"Well, if the people want to play Match-Maker, then let's play," I said.
"What are you talking about?" Gareth asked.
"You know the game show Connect the Hearts, right? I'll ask my father if I can be on it, and all eligible young women can join to compete for me."
"Lance, you're my best friend, and I support you in everything you do, but this has to be the most dumbest thing you could have ever come up with."
I gave Gareth a smug look.
"You know every girl across LA is going to be killing each other to get to you, right? How are you going to choose that one special girl out of like, a thousand others?" Gareth asked.
"I have my ways." I said, giving Gareth a cocky grin.
Gareth took a step back away from me.
"Lance, buddy, your evil is showing..." he said.
I fully smiled and called up my father.
"Hey Dad, I was wondering about something. Can I star in the show Connect the Hearts? I'm assuming you know what's going on in the social media world." I said.
After hearing my father's response, I sported a toothy grin.
"Great, thanks Dad. Oh, and make sure to send an invitation to a girl named Sharena Beyevell, but to her only... Great. Thanks again, Dad. See you soon." I said, ending the call.
I turned to Gareth and smiled.
"So, when do the games begin?" he asked.
~Sharena's POV~
Turns out, when I was about to head out to play guitar, it began to rain, so I decided to play on my on my porch.
Curled up at my ankles was my black Labrador, Onyx. I watched with patient eyes as the raindrops fell and hit the gutter. I then saw the mailman walk across the street and he began walking over to me. His name is Michel, a good friend of the family. Onyx lifted his head barked at Michel.
"Easy Onyx. It's just Michel, see?" I asked, petting his head.
When Onyx heard who it was, he let out a happy bark and started wagging his tail.
"Letter for you, Sharena. Seems important." Michel said.
"Important how?" I asked.
