Day 13: Your Watershed Moment
Story (Personal story: major life changes): Sitting in the tiny space my daughter called a 'cupboard', waiting for the sale of my home to go through and the funds to be released, I saw in a flash that my life would need to change even more radically. In moving towards unfolding the meaning in my own life, I would need to move away from where I now lived and cross the country to make a new life in another place, in another city, in another climate. In this watershed moment, I realised that I would like to work with folks who have experienced trauma and who are struggling to make their now changed lives meaningful. For this reason, I applied to several universities to do a PhD. One accepted me, and I embarked upon a cross-country journey to unfold my meaning out of difficulties and challenges, by working towards helping others to unfold and find theirs. In all of this, I forgot about my own sorrow and heartbreak, while simultaneously creating joy in other people's lives.
Story Essence: It's important to see life's difficulties and tragedies as potential watershed moments, so that we can fundamentally change the way we react to these circumstances. We can think of these challenges as calling us to be the best that we can be, to rise out of these moments and reach for something greater than ourselves.
Specific Action: If this were your watershed moment, think about what you can do to reach for something greater than yourself. Turn this moment into something wonderful for someone, somewhere. Write down your ideas.
In seeing our difficulties as potential watershed moments of change and rising up to be the best that we can be in those moments, we overcome and transform these tragedies. Tomorrow we will look at finding your personal calling.
