First Impressions

Ever get sick of the word 'disappointment'?  Lord knows I've heard it enough.... sorry quick author rant

(Virgil's POV)

Emo nightmare.  First words out of my soulmate's mouth upon seeing me.  That's great.  Real great start to the relationship.  I'm starting to see where Logan's coming from when he says that maybe the soul stones make mistakes.

"Thanks for the compliment," my voice was flat, but I smirked.  You should see his face.  His emerald green eyes were wide and his eyebrows were raised.  His mouth was agape.  He looked somewhere between horrified and confused.  But, ya know, he actually wouldn't be bad looking if he'd wipe the stupid look off his face.  He was wearing a red jacket over a white shirt that read 'charming' on it with a crown under the word.  "Got anymore compliments for me Princey?  Or are you just gonna stand there?"  I heard Logan mutter 'going to' (he has a thing for grammar), but Princey didn't say anything,  he just stood up taller and straightened (haha not really) his face.  "Yeah, ok.  Well I have a whole lot of nothing to do, so if you want to exchange numbers or just forget this happened that's cool,"  I shrugged, but the anxiety was building as I waited for him to say something.  I sank as he continued to stare at me. I put on my head phones and moved to get back in the car.

"Hold on, J.D-lightful,"  ew, was that a theatre nickname? I looked back from the car to see Princey jogging over to him.  "I'm almost done with my shift, if you want to hang out?"  I blinked at him.

"How long? Until your shift is up that is?"  I asked, looking up at him through my bangs, shoving my hands in my pockets to keep from fidgeting.

"Um, an hour?" I stared at him.

"That's your idea of almost done?"

"Well, not really.  But I just kinda said it,"  He raked his fingers through his hair as I heard Logan mutter 'kind of'.  "You're right, it was stupid.  I'll just give you my number, we can figure it out later." he looked down, clearly feeling silly.

Now, I'm not sure why I said what I did, but I blurted out, "No, it's fine.  I'm not doing anything, we can hang here,"  I know, I'm stupid.  But the puppy in front of me eyes lit up and he smiled.  I don't have any reason to spend my day at a theatre, I didn't know the person I was spending it with, and this person is going to play a critical role in my life.  There was a lot riding on this, and my anxiety spiked as I sighed and followed my soulmate as he practically skipped back into the theatre.

(Roman's POV)

I can't believe he agreed to spend the day with me.  I had an hour of work to get him to go on an actual date.  Which was a complete lie by the way.  I still have like four hours left on my shift, but I wasn't hesitating to bail on the second half of my shift.  I mean, I didn't want this job in the first place, well I did, but as an actor.  I heard a voice from behind me.

"It's Roman, right?" the smaller person behind me asked.  I slowed down to match pace with him.

"Yup!  And you are?"  I inquired since I still didn't know the name of my soulmate.  He muttered something.  "I'm sorry, what was it?" I asked again.  He muttered again.  I gulped and looked ahead; I need to know his name, but asked again would make me look stupid.  He sighed and spoke clearer this time.

"Don't laugh, ok?" I looked down at him, he was just looking ahead.

"Why would I laugh My Chemically Imbalanced Romance?"  I gave my best and most charming smile I could, but he cringed at the nickname.

"Ugh, I liked emo nightmare better,"  I grinned, "my name is Virgil."  He said almost too quickly to hear, but I did.

"Virgil's a lovely name," he looked up at me as I smiled.  My charms were not getting anywhere.  Calling someone lovely or smiling usually got me a giggle or a blush at least, and I was using all of my best material on this kid; nothing, he just kept staring at me.

"Thanks," he muttered just loud enough for me to catch.  We got back to the auditorium and Jessi stormed up to me.

"Where the hell were you?!  You think you can just take off like that?  You left me to deal with Ryan and I'm just supposed to be tech!  You're director's assistant, not me!"  the little ball of rage was intimidating despite being so much shorter than me.  I stood there not saying anything and she turned her attention to Virgil.  "Who the hell are you?" her tone wasn't nearly as harsh as when she was talking to me, but Virgil sank into his hoodie.

"I'm Virgil," he squeaked.  Jessi didn't seam to care about him and focused in back on me.

"Well Ryan, ya know, the man you're supposed to be working for, wants you to run off more copies of the script and give them to that group over there," she pointed to a small team that were gathered together outside of the auditorium doors, "They're the hair and makeup team and they were supposed to watch today's performance to get a sense of what they need to do for each character, but Kelly went home sick, so they couldn't give a full rehearsal today,"  Kelly was the lead of the play, "so Ryan just wants to give them scripts to read about the characters, they'll come back and watch next week,"  I nodded, not wanting anymore trouble with Jessi, especially when I'm going to ask for the afternoon off.

"How many copies?"  I asked.

"Five, one for each of the crew and an extra," she responded.  Something beeped in her headset and she began talking into it and walking away from Virgil and I.

"Well, I guess if you want to chill in the lounge for a bit while I run some copies you can.  After we can talk over lunch.  I have fifty sandwiches ready to be eaten," he gave a small nod and followed me to the lounge before I left him for the copy room, which was right next to the lounge.  It took no more than 10 minutes to make, staple, and distribute the copies, but it felt like the longest 10 minutes of my life.  Finally, I was done with the copies and went to find Jessi about taking part of my shift off.  When presenting the question, she looked at me like I had three heads.

"So, you come in here on your first day, bs in the parking lot for half an hour, bring some rando to work, and now you want to leave in 40 minutes for the rest of the day?"  her arms were crossed and her eyebrow was raised.

"Yes....?"  I asked hesitantly.  She blew out an exasperated breath and began to walk away, but I grabbed her arm to try and win the argument.  "Listen, Jessi, I know it's my first day, and I know that this is like the worst timing possible, but it's really important to me and I need this day," she glared at me so I continued, disclosing what I had hoped to keep private for at least a little bit, "That boy in there, he's.... Jessi he's... my.... he's my soulmate.  We just found out today and I really don't want his first impression of me to be brushing him off."  I stared at her, praying that she'd understand.  She slouched and grabbed my hand, pulling it off of her shoulder.  I thought it was the end, I was probably fired, but then she smiled at me.

"Well shit, man.  You could have just said that." I blinked at her as her warm smile turned into a smirk, "hey, I know I take my work seriously, but I'm not heartless.  Soulmates aren't something you mess with.  My big sister, when she met her soulmate, she took the whole week off.  I think we can afford to lose you for a few hours, why don't you take off now?"  I picked up the small woman and spun her around in a hug,  "PUT ME DOWN YOU JACKASS!"  she shrieked.  I obliged, thanked her, and went back to the lounge where my soulmate was sprawled on the couch with his headphones on and had a cup of coffee in his hand.  I saw Ryan's box of k-cups on the counter, opened.  I laughed lightly as Virgil took his headphones off and looked at me.

"Ryan's going to kill me, but I sincerely hope you enjoyed the coffee, in fact if you want a cup to go, I'll gladly make one for both of us,"  Virgil half-smiled, but then frowned.

"Don't you have to work for a while?"

"Nope, got off early," I beamed, "Do you want to go out for lunch, instead of grocery store sandwiches?"  he shrugged, "And there's a new Disney movie out, I know it's childish, but I was really looking forward to seeing it.  If you don't like Disney I gue-" I was cut of by the emo on the couch.

He rolled off the couch while saying, "Shut up. Disney is my shit.  Let's go."

I grinned and held my pendant, which was still a pale pink.  Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.
