Day at the Fair (Part One)

Hey guys! WARNING THIS IS A LONG CHAPTER! I did not intend for it to be this long, but IT IS! So grab some snacks and get ready for a wild ride!!! If you make it to the end of this chapter I APPLAUD YOU! It is a chapter of extreme fluff and feelings and I got carried away!!! I'm sorry.

(Logan's POV)

Patton and I made our way down the sidewalk to the festival. We walked in silence for the first few minutes. I couldn't bring myself to say anything after the incident at the library. My coworkers had practically told the whole world about their "ship". The idea was ridiculous and had no grounds to stand on, but I was still a bit embarrassed by the situation. I didn't want Patton to think that I had developed feelings and make our comradery uncomfortable. I walked with my hands shoved in my pockets. Out of my peripheral vision I saw Patton fidgeting with the sleeves of his flannel, which was now tied around his waist leaving him in just his white t-shirt. I was about to say something, when the slightly shorter man looked up at me.

"Listen, Logan I'm sorry," I cringed. I turned my head to look at him, bracing for him to reject my nonexistent feelings. "for yesterday, I really should have been a better friend," I blinked and stopped in my tracks, surprised. The emotional man looked down in what seemed to be shame.

"What?" I asked, still not fully understanding the apology. Behind his glasses, Patton's eyes seemed to be watering up. He covered his face with his hands and shrank where he stood.

"I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have left! You trusted me, and I didn't say anything to help you," He was sorry? For yesterday? I was the one to apologize.

"Patton you have nothing to apologize for," I said, trying to sound sincere but failing. I began to walk again, and Patton scrambled back into step behind me, "I owe you the apology, not the other way around."

"What do you mean? I was a terrible frie-" I cut him off.

"No, you were not a terrible anything. I should not have burdened you with my less than pleasant family background," I never looked at Patton and continued to watch the sidewalk ahead, but I felt his gaze on me. "Is there something else I should say? Or do? I'm sincerely sorry for making you upset," I looked at him. He looked shocked, or horrified, or sad. I'm not entirely sure, I'm not the best at feelings.

"Logan, you shouldn't feel that talking to people is wrong or a burden. We're meant to rely on people as humans. It's part of our nature; you should know that with all the books you read," he gave a lopsided smile, "I'm glad you felt able to talk to me. Just accept my apology and I'll be more than happy to leave it as that, but if you ever need to talk again or want to I'll be there,"

I felt a smile tug on my lips as I gave my answer, "If you'll accept my apology," his lopsided smile turned into a grin as he added a bit of hop to his step.

"We'll be mutually sorry and mutually glad to have each other," I huffed a laugh at his giddiness. The park entrance came into view, the gate covered in balloons and streamers and a clown stood handing out balloons. I grimaced at the sight of the man, but Patton squealed and sped up to greet him. "Logan hurry up!" he waved at me to come over before beginning to chat with the costumed figure. I chuckled and shook my head, but quickened my pace a bit. Once I was at Patton's side the clown greeted me. I extended my hand, which he took and shook for and unnecessarily long time.

"Hey kid you scared of clowns?" he asked me with a grin underneath an already painted on grin.

"No." I said hesitantly.

"Then why ya shakin'?" he exclaimed with an obnoxious 'HA!' afterwards. I blinked, but Patton bubbled with giggles which escalated to loud laughs. The absurd clown let go of my hand to give Patton a high five. Shakin', shaking, I was shaking, I was shaking his hand. I understood the ridiculously childish joke. I blew out a breath and adjusted my glasses as I cringed.

"Oh come on Lo! That was hilarious!" Patton wiped a tear from under his glasses, his face red from laughing.

"Oh. My apologies," I looked at him as I paused. "ha." I said with no life in my voice, but Patton found it hilarious. He and the clown started giggling at my monotone 'laugh'.

"You're funny," the clown said while laughing, "Wanna take my job?" I blinked at him.

"Want to," I corrected," and I'd rather do anything else," I checked the watch on my wrist and realized that Virgil was probably in a panic looking for us. "Come on Patton, we should be on our way inside," I walked through the gate, but Patton strayed behind.

"Awww, Lo! We're not in any rush!" he whined as he stepped towards me. I checked my watch again.

"Actually I have someone waiting inside, and I don't want him to worry,"

(Patton's POV)

I was laughing with the friendly clown (his name is Larry) when my attention was drawn to Logan.

"Come on Patton, we should be on our way inside," I watched him as he walked through the gate, but I wanted to talk to Larry more.

"Awww, Lo!" I half giggled, half whined, "We're not in any rush," I walked forward to pull him back to Larry, but stopped in my tracks upon hearing his next words.

"Actually I have someone waiting inside, and I don't want him to worry," he stated as he checked his watch.

"O-oh," my heart dropped. He had someone to spend the day with already. And to think I got excited when he actually joined me today, when I saw him at the library, when he apologized. Not surprised, I'm used to unreturned feelings, but now I didn't have anything to do but third-wheel. Again. "Well I suppose if you want to go, I'll.. uh. I can meet you later if you want, or I mean, uh, maybe I'll just see you at the library tomorrow," I stuttered meekly. Logan tilted his head and looked at me in confusion. I gulped.

"No. He wants to meet you," he frowned. I shrank. The last thing I wanted to do was meet Logan's date.

"Um," I looked around trying to find an excuse. Instead I just said, "who is he?" mentally punishing myself as soon as I said it.

"Virgil," he answered, still frowning. My eyes widened. "There is no reason to be nervous Patton, but if you don't want to, I can tell him that we won't be meeting him."

"Virgil. As in your roommate Virgil? The guy who got you into this soulmate stuff?" I rambled, not believing I jumped to conclusions so quickly. He nodded, still seeming confused. I blew out a breath, "Ok. Um, let's go I guess," I fell into step with him as we made our way to the main part of the festival. I walked in silence as I watched Logan typing into his phone, texting someone (probably Virgil).

"They're by the petting zoo," he stated still looking at his phone. I tilted my head.

"They?" I asked.

"Yes, they. Virgil brought Roman with him," my heart jumped with excitement.

"Awww! Like soulmate Roman?" he gave a brief nod and I squealed, "That's so cute!" I bubbled at Logan's side. Then an idea popped into my head. "Logan?" he looked at me, "We should let them have the first part of the day to themselves," I smiled innocently, despite plotting to get more time alone with Logan, "We can meet them for the fireworks tonight, but they should get some time together," Logan looked down at his shoes for a moment before responding.

"Yes, that makes sense. Good idea Patton, but perhaps we should meet back together before the fireworks, maybe for dinner?" He looked at me waiting for a response. I giggled.

"Great idea Lo! That way we can tease the two lovebirds," I giggled more, "You're so smart Lo," I said contently. He smiled slightly, and I swear I saw a slight hue of pink tinting his cheeks.

I saw the petting zoo and tried to look for Virgil and Roman even though I had no clue what they look like, but quickly gave that up upon seeing the animals. I ran to the goat pens and didn't hesitate to put a quarter in the food dispenser to feed the animals. One of the bigger goats soon walked over to where my hand was extended and began to nibble on the food in my palm. I giggled at the feeling of his lips and whiskers against my hand. Later a little black and white baby goat came up and began to bump against the older goat's legs. I pulled my hand away from the older goat and divided the remaining food between my two hands and fed the baby and papa goat. The older goat finished quicker and tried to steal the baby goats food, pushing the kid out of the way.

"That was baaad of you!" I scolded with a giggle at my own joke. I stood up and started to walk away when I bumped into someone. He stayed standing, but the surprise knocked me to the ground. The man helped me up. He was wearing a white tank top and red shorts, and he flashed a grin at me, his green eyes shining.

"You must be Patton!" he exclaimed, still grinning.

"Hi," I squeaked, giving a little wave. I yelped as the man picked me up in a hug.

"Don't think he's shy Roman, he's usually not this sheepish," I heard Logan say as he approached us with a short man wearing a purple tee and jeans by his side. I blew out a breath in relief. Roman. That's who he was. I grinned as I reprocessed what Logan said.

"Good one Lo!" I laughed. He just looked at me, confused. "Sheepish? I got it," I gestured to the goat pen behind me, "usually I'm the one who's always kid-ing around?" I laughed more. Realization filled his face and he cringed but I ignored him and continued to laugh.

"Patton, this is Roman," the one I ran into waved, " and Virgil," the shorter one looked up through his purple bangs with a half smile. "Virgil, Roman, this is Patton," Logan finished introducing us, and Roman spoke up.

"Patton! Absolutely splendid to meet you!" he burst with a princely tone, "I have heard so much about you!"

"Y-you have?" I asked, confused.

"Of course! Mostly through Virgil, but Virgil had to have gotten it from somewhere, huh Logan?" he turned to Logan, a mischievous grin on his face. I turned pink and Logan cleared his throat. Logan talks about me? I thought to myself.

"Well, nice to meet you both," I said, "I've heard how you two met, and oh my goodness, that's a story to be told for years," I giggled. Roman started to go off on a rant about how it was meant to be.

"Call it what you will! Fate. Destiny," Roman started.

"A lack of caffeine," I heard Virgil mutter. Roman laughed and pulled his boyfriend closer to him. I saw Virgil cringe, but he stayed by Roman's side.

"Well, we should probably be on our way to the rides and whatnot," Logan said, I walked to his side and nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, you two have fun! We'll meet you again around four maybe?" I suggested. Logan nodded and neither of the other two boys objected so our plan was set. We started to walk away, but Roman grabbed Logan and held him back. I frowned. Roman smiled innocently.

"Sorry, Patt. Just have to talk to Logan here for a moment," he told me and I shrugged and let them whisk him away.

(Logan's POV)

I was about to walk away with Patton when Roman grabbed me by the shoulder and prevented me from going forward. I frowned as Roman explained what he was doing with me to Patton. I watched Patton shrug and take a few steps away.

"What are y-" I started, but was abruptly cut off.

"Oh my God Logan! He is ADORABLE," Roman gushed. I groaned and rolled my eyes at the comment. "You two would be so cute together and there is no convincing me otherwise," he crossed his arms and a stupid grin spread across his face.

"There is nothing between Patton and I," I defended myself, but Virgil had something else to say.

"Oh whatever. Did you even see how he looked at you?" I blinked as Virgil chuckled. "You two even Yin-Yanged for Christ's sake," he exclaimed.

"We what?" I asked.

"Oh my God Virge! You're right! They did!" Roman exclaimed.

"We did what?" I pushed again.

"Yin-Yanged." Virgil said bluntly. He must of seen my lack of understanding because he sighed and elaborated. "You're wearing a grey shirt with blue jeans. He's wearing a blue flannel and grey shorts. Yin-Yang. Black and White. Whatever, you know the symbol," he huffed.

He was correct, I did know the symbol, and Patton and I happened to be wearing inversing outfits, but the idea that it meant something was preposterous. "That doesn't mean anything, besides it was completely coincidental," I countered.

"That makes it even cuter!" Roman laughed, "You're not helping your case bud," Roman said and Virgil looked up at his soulmate, laughing with him in agreement. I huffed and began to walk away.

"I should be getting to Patton. You two enjoy your time," I said to them from over my shoulder.

"Enjoy your time with Patton as well," Roman called to me.

"Just not too much!" Virgil added on to his boyfriends statement.

I groaned and felt my face turn red as I walked to where Patton was next to the duck pond.

"Hello again Patton," I stated as I joined him.

"Hey Lo," he smiled at me. I let myself give a small, half smile and stood by his side as he leaned forward on the railing that overlooked the pond and the small waterfowl that swam in it. A soft smile resided on his face as he watched the ducks moving in their lines through the water. Time felt as if it froze for a moment as I studied Patton. His blonde hair curled slightly on the ends and darkened in color in certain spots. His smile forced two dimples to dip slightly on his cheeks and light goldish freckles dusted the bridge of his nose and parts of his cheeks. His eyes were about as close as you could get to a cartoon. They were an astounding blue with flecks of green in them; the sun reflecting off of his glasses gave the illusion that his eyes were actually sparkling. He glanced at me, "yes Logan?" he asked. I realized how long I'd actually been looking at him and cleared my throat and curtly looked back at the pond.

"N-nothing," I unintendedly raised my hands to adjust my tie, which resulted in me looking not the smartest as I wasn't wearing a tie and my hands were just hovering above my neck, "I just got lost in thought, that's all," I saw Patton shrug from the corner of my eye.

"So, what ya wanna do first?" Patton seemed to bounce slightly on his feet, "Rides, games, shows, food? Well, probably not food because there's still another two hours until noon, but if you want I guess," he rambled for a bit and fidgeted with his hands.

"I suppose the rides first would make the most sense. Doing them after lunch would most likely result in sickness," I said monotonously. I adjusted my glasses and looked at Patton who was nodding.

"Ok. Which one first?" he tilted his head to the side, waiting for an answer. I blinked and shrugged, I normally do not attend these frivolous events so I'm not the most educated. "Umm," he glanced around before his eyes lit up, "Oh! How about the giant swing? Ya know the one where they bring you high up in the air and spin the swings around in giant circles?" he extended his arms and began to spin around in a circle to provide an unneeded visual. He giggled at himself as he slowed to a stop and awaited approval from me.

"Sounds adequate," I nodded and began to walk down the path towards the rides. I heard Patton giggle again and I looked at him.

"I love the way you talk," he mumbled, but I heard him. I blinked and he froze before stammering over himself, "sorry, uh I umm didn't m-ean to b-be awkward, I just uh," he rubbed the back of his neck and looked down, which made his blonde curls fall into his face, "you just... you use all kinds of big words and I think it's cu-cool!" He swiped his hair back into place. He laughed breathily. He looked up at me and I cleared my throat.

"There's nothing to apologize for," we approached the giant swing ride. It was a tall pole-like structure that had arms extending off of the top. Numerous swings dangled off of the ends of the long arms so they were near the ground. It was very colorful and had lights that twinkled to the carnival music it played. It didn't look like the most stable thing in the world as the swings were connected only by chains and a rubber coating, with a standard seatbelt acting as the majority of the security. "Patton, you're sure this is safe?" I looked at him.

"Of course Logan! They wouldn't let people ride it if it wasn't! You'll be perfectly fine," he reassured me and went to the ticket man. I watched as he fumbled to get his wallet.

"I'll pay Patton," I pulled out my money and gave the man $50 for our wristbands passes for the day.

"Logan, you didn't have to do that," Patton said quietly.

"No, I didn't. I chose to do that," I glanced at him sideways as I put my wristband on.

We went on the swing, it was a bit frightening at first, but the experience became eventually enjoyable. Patton's excitement only seemed to grow as the morning went on. We went on most of the rides, excluding the teacup ride as Patton insisted he would be sick and I was none too eager to test that theory. The fair had a wide variety in types of rides, but not in the rides themselves. There were only two or three roller coasters, the swing, a ferris wheel, the tower drop, a small race track for go-karts. But we went on all of them multiple times (except the teacups). I enjoyed the tower drop the most; it brought you high into the air in a seat alongside other seats and when you got to the top, it would rotate to show you a view of the entire park and some of the city. It was beautiful, they let you enjoy the view only for a moment before the platform of seats dropped and everyone plummeted back to the ground in a fit of loud shrieks and screams. Patton enjoyed the go-karts and didn't hesitate to speed pass me in a fit of laughter with every lap around the track.

It was around noon and Patton and I had been on all of the rides at least three times each. We decided to get something to eat and settled on gyros as I advised against all of the deep fried food. Patton begrudgingly agreed, but stated that we'd have to get mini donuts at some point and that he wanted a bucket of cheese curds; he had to explain to me that he didn't actually want a bucket.

We watched some shows being put on by performers while we ate, such as sword swallowing, juggling, knife-throwing, and magic. Nearly all of them seemed to give Patton heart attacks.

After we finished lunch we started on the stand games and played ring toss, bean bags, a game where you had to shoot down targets under a time limit, and more of the sorts. Patton usually won because he had more experience, but there was one where you had to hit a platform with a large sledge-hammer and see if the bell would ring. I'm not the strongest, but I did do better than Patton and won a small bear. Patton said it's because I carry heavy textbooks every where. After going through all of the games once, Patton demanded a cheese curd break. The unhealthy clusters of deep-fried dairy served to be a nice treat and time to sit down in spite of the controlled chaos of the fair revolving around us.

The day flew by and was not as miserable as I expected it to be. Soon enough, it was after 4:00 and we needed to meet Virgil and Roman for dinner. Virgil and Roman settled on a meeting place without us and were already seated. Patton and I joined them at a small restaurant on the outskirt of the park that was not part of the festival and would have normal food. Virgil and Roman split one of the pasta dishes and I settled on a sandwich with soup and Patton ordered a burger.

"So, how was you're day?" Patton inquired, questioning the two soulmates. He leaned forward against the table and smirked mischievously.

"Ya know Patton? I think I'd call it a success," Roman responded. Virgil buried his head in his hands as I raised my eyebrows.

"What does 'success' mean?" I pressed. Roman looked at Virgil and smiled softly before slipping a smirk back on his face.

"Oh, nothing really. Just happy to call Virgil mine," Roman wrapped his arm around Virgil, who turned red under his purple bangs. But for the first time since I'd seen the two together, Virgil didn't try to squirm out of his boyfriend's arms or seem uncomfortable to be with him, just slightly embarrassed. In fact, after a few moments, Virgil actually moved closer to Roman and leaned more into his shoulder. Roman visibly relaxed and a content smile filled his face. I was glad for the two, but Patton was something else.

"AAAAAWWWWWWWHHHHHH" Patton squealed, which made Roman laugh and Virgil hid more in Roman's shoulder, "You guys are sooooo CUTE," Patton gushed, he continued to squeal until he started coughing and needed water to recover. I blew out an exasperated breath and straightened my glasses. Roman cleared his throat.

"Enough about us," Roman started, "What about you two? How was your date?" He wiggled his eyebrows and laughed as Patton choked on his drink and turned bright red. I felt my face warm a bit and shot a glare at Roman. Virgil began to chuckle a bit.

"We're just messing with you guys," Virgil smiled, but Roman shrugged as he grinned. I groaned.

"It was an enjoyable day, we participated in activities and went on many rides many times," I stated. Patton intervened.

"OH! And Logan gave me this little cute bear!" He pulled the little green and blue colored bear I won out from under his seat. He admired the bear as Roman and Virgil stared at me.

"You. gave. him. a. bear." Virgil said.

I nodded and fidgeted at my collar as Patton obliviously continued to play with the bear. "I have no purpose for it and Patton likes stuffed animals," I defended myself, knowing what the two soulmates were not-so-subtly hinting at.

"And I do," Patton affirmed, "I love it very much and I named it Kiwi, even though it's got blue in it," he giggled. Virgil blew out a breath in disbelief and opened his mouth like he was going to say something, but the waitress interrupted him with our food.

We ate mostly in silence, occasionally making comments about the food, telling stories from the day, or sharing past experiences. We finished dinner and Virgil and Roman ordered a piece of the strawberry shortcake, but Patton and I decided to opt against dessert and to grab the mini donuts that he wanted earlier in the day for the fireworks. Instead we just ordered two hot chocolates, which I was hesitant to eat considering all of the sugar I had already consumed today and planned to consume after. We talked for about another hour before we headed to the designated part of the park for watching the fireworks, making a quick detour to get Patton's mini donuts. It was nearly dark as we set up our blankets and prepared for the show. Patton and I sat on a blue blanket side by side as Roman and Virgil were laying down together on black blanket next to them.

(Third Person POV)

Soon the sky lit up with bursts of color and light. Throughout the entire show Logan and Patton would steal glances of each other while the other wasn't looking. Logan not sure why he seemed to be so captivated by Patton lately, and Patton's feelings for Logan growing as the night went on.

Roman and Virgil spent the first part of the show whispering about the other men in their company before nearly forgetting them as they let the booms and crackles of the sky catch their attention. It didn't take long for Roman to fall asleep with his arm around his soulmate, and Virgil melted into his arms and let the light and the feeling of content take him away if only for a moment.

HOLY SMOKES. IF YOU ARE STILL HERE, IF YOU MADE IT THIS FAR, I'M HERE TO DELIVER THE GOOD NEWS. IT'S OVER!!! This is the longest freaking chapter I've ever written at a whopping 4483 words (jesus f*cking Christ smh)! I'm sorry if it was absolute trash and a waste of time, but the fluff just picked me up and carried me away.

If you pay any attention to the titles of the chapters you will notice this one says part one. There will be another part out that is the same day at the fair, but told from the Prinxiety POV. It will NOT be nearly as long, so do not fear I am not here to kill you!

Thank you all soooooo much and I hope you are enjoying the story!
