Woman on a Mission

Kat's day had already started out terribly, trust HYDRA to make it worse.

She'd been sitting in that damage meeting for what seemed like years, while her little boy had to play without her. She missed Percy and Nico more than she'd ever let on. Just this morning she'd been unable to find her metal arm, the one she always wore to meetings with Fury and Coulsen. She'd searched high and low and hadn't managed to find it, and had decided to see whether Percy knew where it was, she could have sworn it had been on the kitchen table last night.

She almost cried when she saw him, but she just stopped herself, after all, agents didn't cry.

Percy and Nico sat on the floor in his room as Percy cradled her arm like a baby.

" Thank you, mummy's arm, for everything you do for mummy. I'm sorry that I took you when I wasn't supposed to but I had to say thank you, I had to give you my luck so mummy will always have me with her. My mummy gave me her luck before she died, my new mummy needs it too, so, good luck," Percy murmured, kissing the arm.

Okay, so that wasn't what she wasn't expecting to see at seven in the morning, her little boy kissing her arm? It was adorable, weird, but absolutely and utterly cute. She'd pretended not to notice when he put her arm back on the table, after all, she was a spy at work, it wouldn't pay to have him know that she'd spied on his little chat at home.

Now as she laid on a rooftop directly across from Stark Towers, sniper gun in hand, she wished that luck would strike her baby boy. She'd been frantic when they'd heard the comm from Clint saying that he and Percy were trapped, that HYDRA had taken the building and Thor and Tony were currently engaged in battle at the entrance, trying to keep reinforcements out. She'd hidden her frantic thoughts, putting on the face of calm, like she'd been trained.

No one knew why they were attacking Stark Towers, but they certainly weren't taking the subtle approach.

" By Odin's beard these guys are stupid," Kat hissed as a man ducked in to the open, only to be shot by her rifle.

Was it her imagination or did she hear a familiar sounding laugh echo in the air, the laugh of her father.

" Agent Hughes, come in, I repeat, Agent Hughes, come in," Fury's voice growled in her comm.

" I hear you, bit busy right now," She hissed, picking off three more of the enemy in rapid succession.

" Well finish off, because we have visual on Percy," Fury grumbled.

" I'll be there momentarily," Kat finished, shooting the last four men on her designated floor.

It was time to get her boy home safe.

HYDRA agents didn't stand a chance.

" Poor men, I know they're the enemy but geez, who the hell thought it was a good idea to antagonize Agent Hughes?!" Agent Marcus Rens whistled appreciatively.

Kicking the body of one enemy agent out of the way, his partner, Agent Franks just snorted with laughter.

" Evidently it was HYDRA,"

The two had been sent to back up agent Hughes who'd stormed in to that building with guns blazing and later on, swords flashing ominously in the darkened hallways as enemy after enemy fell. Nothing was going to stop her from reaching her son. That much was clear.

Once or twice they stopped to put a twitching enemy out of his misery, but their task was relatively easy now that hurricane Hughes had swept through.

The sight they stumbled upon had them trying hard to mask their grins.

A blood covered, dirt dusted Kat was clutching Percy and that kitten, Nico, in her arms like nothing else as the little boy sobbed and cried desperately.

Clint watched on awkwardly, looking entirely out of place and evidently feeling like an intruder on a private scene.

" I was so scared!" Percy sniffled, big sea green eyes wide and watery.

" I know my champion, but it's over now, I promise," She whispered back, nuzzling her face in his soft hair.

" Why did the bad men come, mummy, why did they hurt Jarvis?" Percy asked tearfully.

" I don't know yet, but we'll find out, I promise. We'll be like detectives, we''l figure it out together, how does that sound?" She murmured, flashing him a gentle smile.

" I'd like that," He murmured back, blinding her with his cute smile.

Kat would do anything for her baby, even if she had to play detective for the rest of his days. Maybe her day wasn't so bad after all, she had him back and he was safe. That's all any mother would want.
