First Meeting
Jinx was grumbling to herself as she headed back to her apartment after having detention with one of her professors. Detention, in college. They said it wasn't a usual punishment but they hoped it would help her focus more on what was important. They allowed her to do any work that she needed to and offered to answer any questions that she might've had, but she was so annoyed that she spent the entire time sulking. No one else had detention! They were purposely singling her out and she hated it. All because of her 'special circumstances' as Headmaster Heimerdinger had put it.
She had half a mind to go to Vi's house to complain before she remembered how late it was and she really didn't want to accidentally catch her sister and her girlfriend doing anything.
She let out a groan and kept walking, not showing any fear despite being a young girl traveling at night, it's not like she wasn't familiar with it and her apartment was pretty close to the school so it really wasn't a big deal.
However when she started to hear strange banging noises from the direction she was heading in she did start to get curious. As she got closer she also could hear light grunts mixed with the banging and she found herself walking towards the sounds. She was gonna check it out, and she felt pretty confident in her self-defense skills, and if not that, she definitely could outrun whoever it was.
She neared the corner and when she peaked around her eyes had to adjust to the dark, but once they did all she could make out was a small figure near the back of the alley. Jinx couldn't understand why they were making so much noise unless they wanted someone to call the cops, but instead of walking away, she started walking into the alley.
"Hey!" She yelled and the banging quickly stopped as did any movement from the back. Without the movement Jinx was having a hard time seeing the person so she just rolled her eyes before pulling out her phone and using her flashlight. To her surprise, it was just a kid, and as soon as the light shone on her she threw the pipe from her hands and tried to sprint past her. Jinx grabbed her more out of reflex than anything else.
"Let me go!" The kid yelled as she struggled in Jinx's grip. It took the teen a few seconds to even realize she had just grabbed a kid out of nowhere.
"Woah!" She let her go quickly and with a thud, the child landed on her hands and butt and hissed in slight pain. She lifted her hands to make sure there weren't any cuts before looking up at Jinx with a small glare.
Jinx stared back at her as tons of thoughts went through her head looking over this obviously homeless kid. It was an uncomfortably familiar sight, one she would've been more than happy to have not come across, but it was too late. While she didn't consider herself a good person, she was making a few efforts to at least be... decent. Better than she was. And with that slowly growing conscience, she couldn't just leave a random kid like this.
Her eyes looked the small girl over completely, "You need a place to stay?" The girl tensed up and Jinx knew from experience what she was expecting, especially when she saw how her eyes quickly looked to the outside of the alley behind her.
"No need to feel scared, I'm just offering shelter for a few days and maybe some food. A sort of temporary home. No pressure to stay or anything."
She could see the kid going over it in her head. And she knew that she didn't trust her, but what else could she do? If she called the cops there was no way to make sure the kid was actually taken in by them without forcing her to stay... and who's to say she didn't run away? Jinx wouldn't judge anyone for escaping a sucky home life. No, she didn't want to dive into all of that, she would rather take her in for a few days, and then the kid could sneak out eventually, probably after stealing a few things, and Jinx's conscience would be cleared because she tried to help.
Eventually, the small girl stood up and nodded.
"Great! The name's Jinx, my place is only a little bit away from here."
