Explanations
"Jinx what were you thinking?!" Vi couldn't stop herself from yelling at her sister who was just scowling while facing a corner. Caitlyn was with Lilith in the other room trying to talk with her about what was going on.
"I already told you that I didn't kidnap her! What else do you want from me!" Jinx couldn't get over the way her kid looked so scared. The way she had asked if she was gonna leave her broke her heart. Everything that was happening was irritating. It wasn't like she actually did something wrong. For once, she was sure she was doing the right thing. She took in a kid and cared for all of her needs and never hurt her or did anything bad. And they were both happy.
"I want you to explain how all of this happened Jinx! You found a kid and just took her in? That doesn't sound like you."
Jinx scoffed and Vi let out a more frustrated groan. "Do you even care about how bad this could be!?! What if she ran away? No matter how you found her it is still kidnapping! And if she got hurt in any way someone could claim you abused her!"
Jinx turned around and faced her sister furiously, "I would never hurt her!"
"I know that Jinx! That's why this is so serious!"
Jinx shook her head but Vi let out a deep sigh before getting close to her and trying to speak to her normally.
"Why? Just explain it to me, and we'll see what we can do."
"I took her in, it was just supposed to be a few nights til I figured out what to do. I thought about calling you but she barely seemed to trust me so I didn't. She was just here and I got used to it... I can't lose her Vi, I'll do anything. I'll quit school, and get a new place with a more consistent job. I don't care, but I-"
Vi held both of her sister's shoulders so they were looking each other in the eyes.
"You are not quitting school, especially not after working so hard. Your grades have even been getting better and you seem so much happier these days-" That made her stop as Jinx looked at her much more hopefully. It clicked in her head that these positive changes she would off-handedly notice about Jinx probably tied back to this kid.
"You're young and you have your entire life ahead of you."
"She's my kid Vi." She said it so seriously that her older sister didn't feel like she had any place to refute it.
"I'll..." She let out a deep sigh while running her hand through her hair, "I'll talk to Caitlyn."
...
"Hi sweetie, my name's Caitlyn." She tried to speak softly but the little girl was scowling and completely facing the corner. Ironically she couldn't seem more Jinx-like if she tried.
"Can you tell me your name?" Nothing but silence answered her and she let out a sigh. Jinx said that she was going to be unlikely to talk unless she felt like it was necessary. She hoped she was wrong.
"Do you know where your parents are? Or maybe where you live?" She asked and the kid turned around only to glare at her which startled her a bit.
"I live with Jinx!" Caitlyn nodded quickly at the yell before trying to keep her talking.
"Do you like staying with Jinx?" The kid still glared and didn't answer so she kept pushing.
"It's probably not the best though right? Only having microwaved food and takeout? Wouldn't you like to have real food sometimes? And your own mom and dad to take care of you? We can help you. And if you really like Jinx we can make sure you can still see her and everything. We just want to help you find a nice home, how does that sound?"
"You don't understand anything..." It was mumbled and Caitlyn couldn't hear it so she offered another smile and hoped to encourage her.
"What was that?"
"I said you don't understand anything! Jinx is my mom! And I'd rather stay with her than any other stupid mom and dad! I like whatever she brings me and I don't want a new home! Leave me alone!" She offered a kick to the table they were sitting at and Caitlyn stepped back and stared at her wide-eyed. This kid didn't make sense, and she really couldn't understand how she could be happy living with Jinx.
Either way, it wasn't possible and all of this would become more of a hassle anyway. She pinched the bridge of her nose before running through everything in her head. Since the child wasn't injured there were no serious repercussions they have to deal with at the moment, but they still need to turn her in and find out where she should be at the moment. The paperwork was going to be a nuisance though.
There was a knock on the door and Cait furrowed her eyebrows before walking over and opening it only to see Vi with a nervous look.
"Maybe we can talk about a different solution." Vi offered a small smile and when Caitlyn looked farther in the room Jinx wasn't looking in their direction at all but she seemed a lot less tense from when she left the two sisters alone together. She placed her hand on her head as she felt a headache coming on. This was too much.
"Really Vi?" She closed her eyes when her girlfriend only nodded.
"Okay fine. We can talk, but I really don't know what more we can do."
