"Shit." It was a light grumble that came from the girl after she dropped her ice cream. She went to turn to any of the three adults and see who would replace it, but each of them were staring at her. Her breath hitched and she quickly turned back around. They all looked way too surprised about her dropping her ice cream, she had been clumsy before and they never stared at her like that.

"Uh, kiddo?" Vi was the one to call her so she slowly turned back around, still holding the now-empty cone.

"Yes?" She really didn't know what was going on, the two oldest still seemed to be staring in shock, but her mama seemed to be in her own head again. Who knows what she was thinking about at a time like this, how could she ignore the fact that she had just lost her ice cream?

"What did you just say?" The question caught her off guard and she furrowed her eyebrows trying to go over the last few moments, but she didn't recall anything. She was going to ask for another cone but she hadn't because of their stares.

"I don't think she remembers," Caitlyn mumbled to her girlfriend after a moment of them watching her trying to think back.

"She doesn't remember? How can she say that so casually unless..." Vi and Caitlyn looked at Jinx who had walked over to her daughter and was listening to her request for a new cone.

"But Jinx has been so good at not cursing around the kid." Vi mumbled and Caitlyn narrowed her eyes, "Obviously not." The two let out a sigh as they realized they would need to talk to both of them the same time that Jinx and Lilith went back inside to get another cone for her.

"Okay, so I don't know how long this has been going on, but Jinx you can't curse in front of the kid."

"What?!" Her voice cracked at the accusation and Lilith just looked at them confused

"I get that she's your kid and all, but she's a child, it's not appropriate." Her older sister continued and right before their eyes Jinx and Lilith both did the exact same thing.

Their eyebrows furrowed, and they glared at Vi while folding their arms. Vi didn't even know how she upset the kid this time, but she would've found it adorable if this wasn't serious.

"Vi, I haven't cursed in front of her."

"Jinx..."

"I'm serious!" Her arms unfolded as she hit her own lap to make her point, but neither Vi or Caitlyn seemed to believe her. "Look, in the beginning I did screw up a bit, but I picked up on stopping myself pretty quick. I haven't cursed in front of her." Jinx wasn't happy at how they assumed she was lying, but who knows how long she would be lectured if she wasn't honest.

"Fine then, if it wasn't you then..." They all looked back at the still pouting 6-year-old.

"Why're you so pouty?" Vi asked and Jinx gave a small chuckle before they answered together, "You called her/me a child."

"What's wrong with that?"

"She doesn't like that." Jinx had a playful grin on her face.

"I call you kid all the time."

"Well she doesn't like being called a child, deal with it." Vi groaned before looking back at her girlfriend who jst sighed before stepping forward.

"If Jinx didn't teach you to curse, then where did you hear that bad word?"

"What bad word?"

The adults looked among each other but Caitlyn sighed again, "Shit."

Lilith looked confused for a moment as she unfolded her arms, "No one taught me it."

"Then where'd you hear it?" Jinx asked this time and Lilith bit her lip and was silent for a few seconds before she moved closer to her mama.

"I-it was just... what I heard around before... before..." Jinx's eyes widened slightly as she picked up on what she meant easily by her body language and without even listening to the rest she picked her kid up and placed her on her lap. The little one gasped before she then relaxed again, she liked sitting on her mama's lap. She rested her head on her chest and just laid there while the adults all came to terms with the truth. There were probably a few things that Lilith had seen and heard that they would prefer she didn't from before Jinx found her. It was heartbreaking for each of them, but they knew they were gonna work with her to help her get past all of it.

"W-well Lili, some of the things you heard out there... umm, they probably weren't all good. Uhhh..." It was obvious to all of them that Vi was struggling with the words, but just as Caitlyn went to continue Jinx cut in.

"Sometimes we hear things we shouldn't. That doesn't mean we can repeat it. Sometimes I even say things I shouldn't but I correct myself because there are better words to use." Jinx and Lilith were making direct eye contact as she spoke and the little girl nodded slowly in understanding.

Seeing the nod, Caitlyn realized there was something she wanted to add. She kneeled down next to Jinx so she was closer to the kid and they could also make eye contact. "If you're ever unsure about a word you heard, especially if it was before you joined us, ask one of us and we'll tell you if it's okay or not. Is that good with you?" Caitlyn asked and Lilith nodded again, this time more sure of herself. Caitlyn gave her a small pat on the head and smiled when Lilith just looked up at her with a slightly confused face.

Well it was much better than the girl getting upset or ignoring her, so she would take it.
